Amazon is joining the ranks of a few other retailers in offering a consolation prize to those who purchased an HD DVD player. Engadget HD has a letter from Amazon stating that customers who purchased an HD DVD player (including the Xbox 360 drive) prior to Feb. 23, 2008 are entitled to a $50 store credit. If you purchased an HD DVD player from Amazon be sure to check your email.
While we're on the subject, don't forget to grab that spiffy new update available for the Xbox 360 HD DVD player.

Thats really nice of them considering they did not have to do anything ... Not to mention they have some of the best prices for Blu-Ray & HD DVD movies on the web ... Speaking of ... Anyone know where to get HD DVDs at a low low price like $10.00 for newer releases ... You know, fire sale prices

Huh? I have X-Box Live though I rarely use it ... I do not play multiplayer a lot ... Probably about to play some Hot Shots or COD 4 on PSN ... Why do you ask?

What I did was add all the HDDVDs I want to my cart at Amazon, and then "Saved them for later." So now I just check my Amazon cart daily and it tells me when prices go down or up. Sometimes the prices change temporarily for no reason at all- recently I snagged about seven or so movies for $11 a piece.

I love how people say that HD DVD & Blu-Ray is more expensive than regular DVDs ... If you really look at it ... Many HD DVD & Blu Ray movies are cheaper than on DVD ... I am Legend is $23.00 new on DVD and around $18.99 on HD & BR ... Just don't go to brick and mortar stores

You know, since there are quite a few movies in HD DVD that are selling for pretty cheap and keep coming down in price, maybe buying an MS HD DVD player isnt such a bad idea at 50$ a pop. Just sayin' I wouldnt laugh at them.
Not that I'd rush out to buy a dead format myself, but you don't really end up losing out much if you do, and get to enjoy at least SOME HD content until the BR players come down in price.
I'm just speculating with no info, so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Hey, I dont see any arguments of 360 vs PS3. Could this mean this will be a sophisticated discussion?
Anyhoo, bravo for Amazon.com. How many other sales chains do something like this?

I would have to suspect that the Blu-Ray camp is paying retailers to offer the rebates for early adopters...a little mouth-wash for the bad taste lingering in our mouths.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but...they were selling Xbox 360 HD DVD players for $49.99 a while back, and now they're giving $50 credits to those who purchased one? Sheez, I should have jumped on that deal. I already have the Toshiba HD-A2, but I would definitely have taken $.01 in exchange for receiving an HD DVD player.
