Rumor: Next Ace Attorney sequel is 'Perfect Prosecutor' featuring Edgeworth

It's the contention of a couple of us around the office that Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney's Miles Edgeworth is one of the best video game characters ever. We've always dreamed of a game featuring just him, but like our imaginary Lost spin-off that featured Christian Shepard trekking around the globe, hiring Mexican girls and drinking, we figured it was never going to happen. So imagine our shock when we saw these scans from an upcoming issue of Famitsu.

That, friends, is reportedly Gyakuten Saiban: Perfect Prosecutor, if the Weekly Game Journal is to be believed. The site also says you'll play as Edgey, "searching for overlooked evidence and inconsistencies at the crime scene." Also, expect some new methods of searching and deduction. ... Oh, and a guaranteed purchase from us, you can expect that too.

Seriously? That's the best they can do? There are plenty of more entertaining character choices they could have made! What about a 'Wayne Jarvis: World's Most Serious Prosecutor!' game, or 'Mock Trial with J. Reinhold'?

Actually, on second thought, screw the law themed game. I could definitely settle for a Mr. Banana Grabber game...

Is the game with J. Reinhold going to feature William Hung and his "Hung Jury"?

But srsly. This is epic, and warms my heart. :')

I would totally buy a fighting game about Boy Fights. Or the next Ace Attorney game could be Ace Attorney: Bob Loblaw Law!

Nice, looks like it's turning into a full fledge adventure game like King's Quest, Space Quest, Quest For Glory, etc... like the old Sierra games.

Dungeon Quest, Ancient Ruins Quest, Quest of the Gods, Q-Bert's Quest, Question Mark, Conquest, Kanye West...

A full fledged adventure game would be great!

You really wouldn't think those games are fun based on the description until you actually play them.

A full Edgeworth game? And with Gumshoe as sidekick? Talk about fan service.

Darn it, I thought if they ever did a prosecutor game it would feature the greatest prosecutor ever; WINSTON PAYNE!

For some reason I miss the Judge's brother too... if they don't include him in some form, I'll think it'll be 'broodle'.

The dramatic finger point would be an excellent move in Marvel vs Capcom 3.

Holy shit, just got this great idea: what if it supported multiplayer, with one dude having a new Ace Attorney and the other having the Perfect Prosecutor?

You'd have to defend your client or prosecute the opposition whilst working on and examining the same case. The cases would have to be much more complex and open-ended, but imagine how badass the result would be.

But wouldn't it just devolve to two attorneys just saying, "OBJECTION". Over and over again.

I think the L button should be mapped to 'reduce salary of Gumshoe.'

I was sold on the animations of Edgeworth alone, but seeing Gumshoe in the screens has me in utter ecstasy.

Awesome, awesome idea. I wonder how it will work out in court (though it doesn't say there that there IS a court part of the game, so who knows), because it always seemed more nobel being a defense attorney taking down the bad-guy prosecutors. Bad-guy defense attorney? Can't wait!

I don't know about you, but I'm going to refuse to buy this game just as I refused to buy any of the Phoenix Wright sequels. The games are just TOO AWESOME that I neglect real life whenever I play them.

I'm afraid this game will be too easy (I felt that way during the case where you are Miles)...anyway a new look and everything will help me be able to buy a 5th addition of this series.

Ten bucks the final name is "Miles Edgeworth: Ace Prosecutor".
And DAMN does it sound pimp.

Nah, I'm saying they're going to keep the Alliteration thing going. Miles Edgeworth: Perfect prosecutor. Here's how I think it's all going to go:
Case 1: Either Vs Winston Payne, in the courtroom battle that convinced him to give up his profession as an attorney and become a prosecutor, or vs Grossberg. Or maybe, since there will be increased emphasis on investigation, this will be like an anti-first case, and instead of being wholly in court, be only an investigation.
Case 2, 3: Vs new corrupt, evil attorney antagonist.
Case 4: Taking down the corrupt attorney.
Case 5: Vs either Phoenix Wright, Mia Fey, or Diego Armando (in order of most to least likely).

... EPIC!

They wouldn't have to drop the "Attorney" moniker, though, a prosecutor is still an attorney.

Although "Ace Prosecutor" does sound better.

"It's actually "Gyakuten Kenji", Joystiq. I'm not 100% sure where "Perfect Prosecutor" came from anymore - maybe a literal translation of something in the article (although AFAIK the game name itself translates to "Turnabout Prosecutor", so it can't be the game name's literal translation)."

Arg, you beat me to it! Your translation is just right: should be "Turnabout Prosecutor" (Though I doubt they'll call it that in the English version.)

Where did "Perfect Prosecutor" come from? Possibly to maintain the alliteration started by "Ace Attorney?"

Oh, and it also says on the upper left corner of the left page that this is a spin-off ("Spin-Out" in Japanese).

Not that anyone didn't get that.

Most anticipated game right now, hands down.

Beyond that, words cannot contain my excitement, so I won't even try...
