Say what you want about the visuals, but these new tracks are some of the best looking (in terms of level design) in the series.

Oh, and, since the majority of Kotaku readers still haven't gotten this through their heads, I might as well post this here too - GC/Classic controls aren't gimped one bit and shouldn't effect whether or not you buy the game.

You can cut that down to somewhere around 25 minutes if you just skip through the video and watch the first laps of the new tracks like I did.

Seriously? Awesome! Although that's not too good for you, because I ditched Sonic. I found a much better character in Olimar. Once I get my Wii back (dropped the damn thing, sent it into Nintendo and blamed it on them... heh heh) I'll own you online harder than before. Or maybe not. We'll see.

And Sonic's final smash is so NOT cheap! I've had this argument countless times before. Play a decent Fox/Wolf/Falco player and then come back and tell me Sonic's is cheap.

Perhaps you could, but if I were given a few hours to acclimate myself to this game and controls I could probably give it a go....but I dont like this game so we will never know. If I want to play an arcade racer...I would muh rather play the NFS series or Burnout series.

To anyone worth his salt Super Sonic isn't all that hard to dodge, and while at least one kill is guaranteed when you go into it, any good player can pull off AT LEAST two kills on the same person if they know how to use the Landmaster - having been FLOWN OFF THE TOP OF THE SCREEN countless times, even as Sonic who should logically be able to run right off the top of the thing before that happens (but never can 'cuz it stops you when you get on the cannon and you have to initiate the run again), I think I'd know.

Ok... before the typical bash start. I saw this in parts (not the three laps of every tracks, just one, and skiped innecesary stuff)...

The levels that seem so empty and bland, are from the SNES, N64, Gameboy and DS version, with updated graphics, but without adding more details and other stuff.

Second, like all Mario Kart's, the first courses are the most basics... if you really want to see the best tracks, go to the Star Cup and ahead... excellents tracks (The Bowser one looks amazing).

And finally... the graphics, according to several official reviews, are way better than Double Dash, and that was a pretty game with a lot of color... in this version the are using a lot of bloom and dynamic lights, and soft shadows. Dont judge just for this videos.

Peace.

Ok you asked for it so here it comes ... The graphics should look better than Double Dash because its the next iteration in the series on a "next gen" console ... You can say what you want about how great the game will be but the bottom line is unless Nintendo changes their friend code policy, has actual rankings and includes matchmaking the online mode is pointless ... I am not an achievement whore or anything like that but why even have an online mode with some kind of options (if they don't have these options over SSBB terrible online setup) ... I think the graphics look clean and crisp but its certainly nothing to brag about ... The only thing that can save this game is the gameplay ... I can't judge that from a video ... But, that wheel looks pretty weak ad I would rather use the classic controller which in essence defeats the purpose of owning a Wii ... The only thing the Wii has the others don't is the control scheme which can work if done correctly and can be awful if done wrong ... I think this game will sell like hot cakes but GTA IV releasing the next day will canibalize sales ... I know I won't pick it up day 1 ... I also hope the roster is deeper than what I saw early on in the video because it looks empty in comparison to SSBB's roster ... We shall see ... I am sure the game will get all 100's because there seems to be a Nintendo bias in terms of first party releases ... Maybe so maybe not ... Maybe the games are that great in the majorities opinion ... I have been impressed with some games like Metroid & Super Paper Mario but have been less impressed with the likes of Zelda, Galaxy & SSBB ... They were good games but not GREAT games IMO

In fact, Mario Kart has a very robust online system... you can play online in teams, or with other player in the same system online.

It has matchmaking, world rankings, you can download ghost data from any other player, you can even send frind requests...

It has online events made by Nintendo, it has spectator mode and a lot more stuff.

While Friend Codes make a return, the game has a pretty deep ranking system and much, MUCH improved matchmaking.

Hey that makes me very happy that they have robust online features ... It gives a ray of hope ... Lets slap a HDD on that baby, add voice chatting and do away with friend codes and we will be getting somewhere with this console ... I don't hate the Wii but sometimes it seems hard to like it ... Glad to hear about the online options though ... much needed in SSBB

What is the appeal of this game? Seriously, I am not trying to bash this game. I just do not understand the following this game has 10 years after I thought it was boring.

If I hear one more cutesy Nintendo character noise I will puke on Fernandos mullet.

FYI

Some Professional drivers play this game religiously, yes...even to practice away from the track.

@Fernando

Well Gran Turismo Prologue does offer a 16 multiplayer online experience ... Damage will also be coming with an update this year, allegedly ... I guess the appeal is its realistic and has been in development for what 4 years now ... Not to mention its the top franchise for the Playstation brand ... They added a lot of new things for this one especially considering its a Prologue to the actual version ... Online matchmaking and new CG cutscenes ... Not to mention they have actually modeled the interior of every car down to the buttons on the stereo ... They are also adding real time weather and a "boys mode" with an update, allegedly ... Last I saw GT:Prologue was near 1 million copies sold not counting PSN purchases ... Not to mention it's not even the actual full version game which will include a roster of cars and customization never before seen in a GT game ... To say its the same as GT 1 with updated graphics is just being a whiny little baby and you know it ... This Mario Kart will probably be fun and also offers some massive updates over the last iteration ... But you can't expect people who love real racing and cars to be crazy about this game which is highly cartoony and stylized ... Different strokes for different folks

Then again, to say the same about Mario Kart Wii would put you in the same boat. It boasts quite a few more features than its predecessors, but as it's a Nintendo sequel, there are those who are bound to say 'dur I'm not gonna play it, same thing over again' even though it really isn't.

@Fatass

It offers slightly better graphical enhancements ... GT offers damn near photo real graphics ... I am not knocking Mario kart but its really not comparison to GT:P ... and this is not the full release ... I think the perception problem Nintendo faces is the fact the even as the hardware specs increase the games still look damn near similar ... I also think that many people will not like this game simply because a cartoony whacky racer does not appeal to them and they will probably hate on it without ever trying it ... I don't know man I have never been "blown away" by a Mario Kart game and I have played them since I was a youngin .... A game does not have to blow you away to be fun but if you had two systems and a choice between Mario kart and GTA IV I thik over 85% of the people out there would take GTA IV ... You know what I mean? ... Take for example the GTA series ... There is even a comparison video using assets from the last game and remaking the trailer for GTA IV ... The graphics are easilt 100-200% better ... I just don't get that same WOW factor with Mario kart or SSBB over the last iterations DD & SSBM ... It doesn't mean the games are not fun but it really seems like the exact same game with a little change here or there instead of a complete next gen make over like GTA IV and GT:P ... IMO anyway

Ugh, this kind of argument again? Listen, many gamers have different tastes than you. I personally like the frantic but friendly atmosphere that the series has.

GT:P is cool and I got many laughs out of using the hatchback in many of my races for kicks, but the game's really not my type. Something about it makes me feel... bored? *Shrug*

Seriously though, this argument is as bad and old as the Guitar Hero vs. real guitar argument.

I hope thats not the entire roster there at the start of the video ... Especially with the SSBB roster ... Visuals look as expected ... nothing special but clean ... I just can't get excited for this game with GTA IV and Prologue coming out this month ... I will probably pick it up and let the game play babysitter but I am not that impressed ... I am not disappointed either ... I don't know other than the new vehicles & tracks I just don't see anything new that draws me in ... I suppose the plastic wheel is supposed to do the trick as far as immersion ... We shall see but I am pretty skeptical at this point ... I can't see myself playing the game all that much especially dropping the day before GTA IV ... I did not watch the entire video but I do hope they have actual matchmaking and rankings for this game unlike SSBB meager online experience ...

Thats not the full roster. Only the first twelve. Other than new tracks and the surprisingly robust online mode there isn't really much else to pull you in. Then again, what else does it need? It's Mario Kart, and Mario Kart is usually synonymous for fun.

That sounds pretty cool ... I just remember having so much fun with Wave race 64 ... I would like to see some different types of vehicles instead of just go karts and bikes ... you know some jet ski's, moon cars, snow mobiles, dune buggy's and hell they can even throw in a rocket powered wheel chair for all I care ... Maybe a little airplane level ... These could even be special levels and maybe 1 race like this in 4 circuits ... Just something to switch it up a bit and add another dynamic ... I am happy with the inclusion of motorcycles/dirt bike's though
