Final Fantasy IV hits North American DS on July 22

Square Enix sent word by airship today that ~~Final Fantasy II~~ Final Fantasy IV is ready for its 3D re-envisioning on July 22 in North America. This DS version of Final Fantasy IV -- beyond the graphical upgrade -- also features some fully voiced cutscenes and added content.

It appears Nintendo Power was right on the money with a July release -- as one would hope they would be. Other upgrades the title boasts are a remixed score by composer Nobuo Uematsu and "head-to-head battle" via local wireless. The game will retail for $40 and certainly makes for the perfect game to avoid conversation during the end-of-summer family road trip.

I really wish some of these 3d remakes would come to PSP :( as much as I own both a PSP and a DS, I would much rather play this game on a system that handles like a SNES controller.

Um...the DS control scheme is exactly the same as the snes...only the start and select have been moved...

Now we just need a remake of FFVI. Preferrably on a console that can do it justice. Don't get me wrong, I love my DS, but I want to see FFVI remade with visuals that equal the brilliance of the plot and that can convey the mood and atmosphere of the game better than the slight 3D jump from SNES to DS would allow.

That would blow my mind way more than a remake of VII ever could!

FF6 for the PS3 would sell me that system easily. Throw in a FF7 remake, and I'll dry hump the system.

Amen to that brother, Maybe a remake on Wii or Xbox would be great, and they could even throw out cutscenes and render it all in real time like RE4 Hell yeah.

Has anyone heard of a new DS sans the GBA slot?

Nintendo drops a new unit every 2 years. DS Lite dropped in 2006 and now we're due for a new model.

Given that PSP sales have picked up, I would not put it past Nintendo to show a new unit come E3 or whatever gaming expo hits in Q2.

The PSP sales picked up in Japan only, because the release of Monster Hunter and other sales.

Worlwide, the DS still sell a lot more than any other system.

Still is too soon to release another upgrade.

Argh...my thirst for new hardware has me being wishful for a new model DS. Guess I'll just have to settle for the GOW PSP.

...so what's wrong with the DS Lite?

It's been too long since a true hardware redesign for a Nintendo handheld. A DS Slider? DS Lite-er? Or have they hit the sweet spot with the DS Lite? I can't imagine the DS becoming even more portable than the lite.

Final Fantasy VI remake on PSP? GIMME.

What a disgrace to a classic.. They could have done this on PS1, N64, Gamecube, PS2, Wii or PSP.. but no.. no.. they had to put this game on the most piece of crap hardware ever capable of displaying polygons.. Whoever's decision this was should die in a fire. In fact, he should just LIVE in a fire.. forever.

Weird. I thought the gaming community as a whole was over this 'DS/PSP sucks' thing.

The DS has more graphical prowess than the N64, which in turn had more graphical prowess than the Playstation.

SD3 is pretty subpar, especially compared to Secret of Mana/SD2

Seriously! This is effing awesome! I am so happy for this! I am so nostalgic for FFIV and I didn't realize they didn't make a GBA remake. And RYDIA IS SO HOT just as I imagined!
I would say FFIV is the most memorable FF I've played. That or VI.

Of course they did. It's called Final Fantasy IV Advance. They released all three of the Super Famicon FFs that way.

I too love Rydia. Something about that green hair....

This game cannot come soon enough. I agree that this is one of the more memorable FF's. I also really don't understand all the comments about graphics. Seriously. Who cares? The gameplay is the delicious and moist cake and the graphics are the icing. Unless you just like to eat icing, quit complaining.

Am I the only one who feels Yoshitaka Amano's art style doesn't fit prerendered well?

I'd prefer if they tried to do traditional animation with this rather than CG, because Amanos designs just look awkward rendered.

I can't believe that a game like this comes out and nearly the only thing I hear is "NOW DO FFVI!!!"

Fuckin' ingrates. FFIV was a masterpiece, with character depth that not even FFVI could match. How about some of you actually PLAY the game before tossing it aside. FFIV is refered to as a LEGEND for a reason, for christ sake.

This will always be my favorite RPG because it was the first one I'd ever played.

I would have kind of preferred this on the PSP though...

It was my first too, and the only reason I bought it was because Gamepro gave it all red heads. I had no idea what kind of game it even was until I actually played it.

Jesus. Why is everyone complaining for remakes of their favorite games? Why not some *gasp*, NEW games? It seems no one can make a decent rpg anymore :(

As a DS and PSP owner I would rather have seen this come to the PSP. But maybe the awesomeness of Crisis Core is obstructing my judgment.
