See the top 100 selling games of the past year

As someone said above, this list only includes retail sales. Now I look at a couple titles on there where if we included other sales it would change alot. For instance, retail only means this list does not include Steam sales, and I'm sure that would change the position of things like The Orange Box if included.

Just when I thought my hope for the human race couldn't get any lower...

well.. ratchet and clank and uncharted being lower than those other games make sense for 2 reasons. the first being that they were exclusive to the console with the lowest installed base right now, while pro street, ratatouille, and neeed for speed came out on like 40 platforms. the second reason (at least for uncharted) is that its an entirely new ip that wasnt super hyped like assassins creed that is unknown to ppl compared to movie tie-ins and a series thats about 15 years old like need for speed.

would have bought ratchet and clank future and uncharted if i had a ps3, i will soon though. im also holding out on devil may cry 4 until i get a ps3, since i collect games and i own the first 3 on ps2, i want to go ahead and just keep the series going on the playstation for me.

i wonder what it would look like if they included used games, because i never used to buy used games unless they were games that were hard to find, but after working at a game store, i either buy games off of ppl or with a discount that are used because i can get the ones in good condition that come in right after they come out.

Just to add my 5 cents, it's 8M 360 Copies vs 8.3M PC+360+PS3+DS Copies so reading in between the lines(or numbers in this case) Halo sold better.

So a game released on 7 consoles can sell better than a game that sold on 1?

Huh. Whodathunk it?

Not to mention the lack of surprise that a $20-30 DS game could potentially sell more than a $170 game.

Clumping ALL consoles together was a sign this list was poorly assembled. I'd be more interested in splits by console as well as a percentage of how many owners of a certain console have a game (estimated of course)

I guess placement has a lot to do with it too. Sims Castaway 2 got so-so reviews, but ended up halfway through that list. But it came out as Survivor and Lost were big enough that people were looking for something like that to play in a game. Also, it was the Sims. that's usually enough I suppose.

....well, all right, so maybe for specific definitions of "enjoy", yes, it is a crime. But still. MySims = cute, innocent fun. That's one of the games we should be championing to JT and his fun-hating cronies.

To be perfectly honest, I am surprised COD4 is number 1. I know it IS number 1 but I don't think it deserves to be number 1. It really didn't do anything special. It made some minor changes to a classic genre and had some nice GFX and that equates selling 8 Million copies? I can tell you one thing, marketing and sales departments will learn a lot from this. We won't be seeing a shortage of FPS for a few years, that is for sure.

i may just be crazy but after ready all 11 pages of titles it appears to me that 95 percent of these titles where multiplatform. and with the PS3 and the wii having the most exsclusive titles i find it pretty good that the ps3 did as good with a smaller user base till nov 07. So this article in a way is very mis leading for all platforms....

The Orange Box sales seem kind of low until you take into account the digital sales, which are likely over a million.

I'm disappointed at how well some of the PS3 games on that list sold... Also I think some of their sales figure are not completely accurate...

Anyone who's worked in retail knows that most people are fucking retards, and somehow, God only knows how, these bell-ends have cash.

Really? High School Musical? A game that Disney pushed out the door faster then the movie would take to watch beat out Orange Box? Really? God that list makes me depressed.

Its not a huge surprise that some of the titles are on the list, such as Flash Focus. I work at a retailer, and I will tell you it isn't a huge seller on its own, but when it is bundled in for free with a DS, or put in a bundle pack with Brain Age 2 a fair few copies get moved in a relatively short time. And I can say pretty confidently that even if it was bundled with something else, it still counts on the stats.
