The blu-ray player in the PS3 is brilliant, but I would never give-up my 360. I haven't played a game on my PS3 for around 6months because I just love playing on my 360.

But £349 for a blu-ray player was still worth it.

To be honest he's somewhat right. I mean there are like 7 upcoming games that I want for the PS3 and only ONE game (GOW2) that I want for the 360.

I think that what a lot of people are also missing is the past game library- the decision to buy a console is not made solely on what is coming out, but also what has come out already, and I think that everyone can agree that the 360 has seen a better exclusive lineup throughout its' years. People like me, who can't buy every single great release because we're cheap, are still waiting on great games like GOW1 and COD4 to get cheaper (of course I, like everyone else, did get Halo though).

I wish somebody would keep a running list of "AAA" upcoming releases for all the major systems so we wouldn't get into these pissing contests. PS3 is going to have White Knight Story, two FFXIII games (at least one of which *will* sell several million copies, even if it's crap), at least one more Ratchet and Clank (so we're told), MGS4, LittleBigPlanet, God of War, and Resistance 2, just to name a few. Granted, I'm only actually excited about 4 or 5 of those, but it's a good start (and a lot better than what we've seen in the past ~6 months). 360 has a lot of quality exclusives coming up (see above) too; I think 2008 is going to be the year that hardcore gamers are forced to cross over from their platform of choice if they don't want to miss a fantastic game.

@the other dude.. U don't think Gears is a system mover? what about Fable? maybe Ninja Gaiden?

anyway.. We all know that production is super slow on the PS3 SDK so i'm just wondering when Sony is going to call it quits.

I think Sony isn't used to going blow for blow with someone like MS. And they would love it if MS gave up. I don't see how releasing two sequels is punching yourself out (Forza and Halo).

No, I don't see GOW2 as a system seller and neither should you or anyone else on what we have seen so far. There has been nothing outside of graphical upgrades (many of which look better in other games like Crysis and Alan Wake) that has proven to me and others that this will be a system seller. It's not a good enough game to buy a system over. I didn't buy an xbox till there were many games I felt worth playing.

As far as Sony used to going blow to blow with someone, They fought and won with the ps2 over the Nintendo Gamecube and the original xbox, the ps2 is still outselling the 360. They are very used to it.

While blueray may be the new sex in digital media, the 360 is not a entertainment system, i believe a large base of 360 owners bought their console because of the traditional gaming console it is, i found the Wii being not a traditional console with button mashing not present and the use of dicky swing action not my fancy it swayed from how i like to play games. The Ps3 being this big ass media machine is not what i pay for while blueray is all and good, ill wait till the technology eats that of dvds and create plastic cheap players. While the PS3 games, i believe seem to be a bit on the sucky side, filled with Japanese games, the 360 is the best traditional gaming console IMO.

While this year doesnt seem to have as much hype game catalog wise, its not even half way through the year with many surprises up MS sleeve, with this rumored NEWTON to be in development, i find myself liking a bit of casual gaming on the 360.

I just want banjo 3

I don't understand why people have such a hard time seeing the value and ease at which a 360 can be the entertainment hub of a home. I love to play games but I also love streaming video to my theater room from the server downstairs. The way a 360 can upscale video is amazing. I think the XBVM is as good as blu-ray and digital distribution is the future like it or not. While I see where your coming from that the 360 is the most traditional console of this generation don't deny the fact that the 360 is an entertainment beast.

im not denying the fact, the 360 can and very much so, is a great entertainment system, im just saying that while hunting for a console i don't exactly look at the blueray player or anything like that, the 360 IS a good entertainment system, i use it for dvd's and while im not a HD person, its good its able to preform these functions if wanted. While its good and all to have these extras i believe the 360 succeeds cause it is a great traditional console and with the extra of a dvd player, and high def functions it can also be wanted by a high def gamer.

So basically what Sony is saying is that the key to success is to release a half-baked product initially, and then improve it over time to the point where it's actually something consumers would want to buy after 1 or 2 years. That makes perfect sense. That encourages me to go ahead and release my hover car now. It doesn't actually hover yet, but I promise that I will release that feature in a couple years, then it will sell like crazy.

It seems to me that since a lot of people pick up a PS3 just for the Blu-Ray and MAYBE pick up a game or two, Sony has "punched themselves out of the fight" whatever that means. Since both companies LOSE money on hardware sales and hope to regain it on game sales it seems to me that MS is still the clear winner over Sony since most people that pick up a 360 aren't just going to use it for a (HD)DVD player/media extender/Halo theme viewer. Also MS has people paying extra for Arcade and Live Gold which PS3 doesn't currently have. By the time Sony gets its act together and has anything comparable to those two they'll have spent so much on dissing the competition it'll be moot anyway.

Microsoft with a blu is not going to happen soon... I doubt M$ wants to sell their consoles at a loss... they are currently making money on each sold, unlike ps3...

MGS is really the only game im looking forward to, but without achievements and a good online base, i doubt its replay value is going to be too high...

So, you're telling me games from the last generation and before had no replay value? Considering most consoles were not used online and absolutely no games had 'achievements', that seems to be the point you're making.
Online play (which MGS4 has) is a good way to add replay value, since you always get paired against different opponents who react differently. But it's clearly not the only thing.
Do you know how many times people played games like Sonic the Hedgehog (Megadrive)? Hmm... Maybe that's too far back for you, is this your first console generation?

To be fair Phizzy, these things go generation to generation. What was good replay value back then may not be considered good anymore, just like Chrono Trigger at one point was revelled as having great graphics, those are no longer considered good compared to what we have today.

Likewise, what was once considered to be a fair amount of replay value may no longer be considered so today compared to the games around it. I can say with confidence that the number of hours I've put into Gears of War are greater than the number of hours I put into my top 10 games last console generation combined. Putting 40 hours into a game was once considered an eternity. Nowadays, people put exponentionally more time into online shooters like CoD4, Gears, etc. Playing a 6-10 hour game used to be considered OK, whereas nowadays a game that offers 6-10 hours and nothing else on top of that gets ripped to shreds.

In fact, now that I think about it, the game that I put the most time into by far last generation was Madden, and that was because I played it online a ton.

Sure, games can have plenty of replay value without online or achievements (Oblivion anyone?). But they're still starting way behind. Actually playing through Crackdown is about a 3 hour ordeal, but I'll be damned if I haven't put 80 hours into that game screwing around in co-op and going after the fun as hell achievements. That's double the time I put into GTA3 San Andreas even though the substance of San Andreas was 100 times what's there in Crackdown (kill boss A, then kill boss B, then kill boss C).

Now, imagine if we combine the powers. I guess we'll see that happen on April 29th...

@phizzy...

Dude, i've been around the block since the 2600... I can tell you that i have played many many many games and played them over and over again... But the achievements have gotten me to actually go back and play games to get more points... And discover other parts of the game...

So if i were to get GTA on 360 vs getting it on a PS3, i will choose the 360 because i will get more out of it...

My comment is just my feelings on gaming... Achievements bring me back into games that i may have forgotten about months later... Some people arnt affected by the stigma that is achievements... You certaintly arnt, but i am...

How many xbox1 games have you honestly gone back and actually played from beginning to end? (not counting halo2)... Now think about it, if they had achievements, you would definitely be more than willing to go back and finish them up for that 1000 completion score... right?

Well, I've never cared about Blu-Ray or HDDVD. I don't care about movies.

I'm interested in Haze but that's all. MGS4 and FFXIII can suck my balls unless there is a substantial change from the current path both series have been going down.

360 has World of Conflict I'm pretty excited about.

Other than that everything else is cross-platform so it doesn't really matter.

I didn't understand this divisive fanboy garbage when it was Atari vs. Coleco, NES vs. Master System, SNES vs. Genesis vs. Turbo Grafix, PS1 vs. Saturn, PS2 vs. Dreamcast, and I don't get it now.

Who the hell cares? If you want both and can afford it you get both. If you want both and can't afford it then you have to choose which has the best games for you. The whole back and forth crap is ridiculous and I'm sure it's fueled by only those who have purchased one over the other and feel some need for constant reassurance that they made the "better" choice. The problem is "better" is relative thereby making the bickering even more pointless.

MGS WILL suck your balls. Have you seen demos for that game? It's easily the most homo-erotic game I have ever seen. Now, that's fine if you like that sort of thing, but I prefer my eroticism hetero.

Seriously, go watch some movies for this game. When snake crawls on the ground the camera gets up in his grundle while he basically humps the ground. His ass is accentuated in his gay-suit. And when he camos up against a naked statue, he grabs the balls. C'mon! That's gay (not that there's anything wrong with that). Sorry, I can do without that game. The last one sucked too.

Sony is getting waaaay too confident. The 360 is the better gaming console by far. Sure I have some gripes, but there are much more games right now and better games on the way.

I personally love my 360 for so much more than just playing games. Stream music, movies, and pics from one of the three computers i have in my home, and with two 360's, that means that while i'm playing a game, my girlfriend and daughter can watch a movie in the living room. Or listen to music that i have on one of my computers. It's well worth the money IMO.

If microsoft would confirm blu-ray for the 360, i would hold off on buying a ps3. That's the only reason i want one, i would probably rent a couple games, but i don't think that MGS4 is a console seller for them. Sony just doesn'th ave the titles that make us want to play games over and over again. The PS3 is really just a blu-ray player that can play some overpriced games that you'll never play again after you beat them.

Achievements, gamerscore, DLC, and xbox live make the 360 the best console out there.

Here's how Microsoft wins, because the HD movies thing to me is the only thing Sony has going for it.

Exclusivity deal with NetFlix. Nuff Said.

Do it, and you'll DESTROY Blu-Ray and shift the market to digital download as you always wanted to. Let's be real, they half-heartedly pushed HD-DVD as the spec to win the format war. It was always about digital distribution to Microsoft.

Give the people NetFlix, and Sony will be sitting around punching itself in the dick.

Even if they have outsold the xbox for the past two months that doesn't mean that the better games are on that system.

As a gamer I could care less how many consoles Sony has moved. Show me the software !!

Why does Sony think that MS dropped all the hot games?

Within the past year the only sequels I can think of are Forza and Halo? How is that punching yourself out?

I thik Sony is tired of going blow for blow with MS and would love it if MS just quit.
