Are they trying to copy Sonic with Mario? Granted they aren't that bad...yet but take some time to breathe between Mario releases.

Uh huh. Cuz this is a minigame compilation, right? Actually, no details have been announced for the game, at all, and I don't see why so many people are trying to make opinions so early of a game NOBODY KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT. Wait, did you even read the title up there? Or did you just see the word 'Wii' and jump straight in, eager to make a troll out of yourself?

I LOVE these Nintendo character complication games. I just with they would use the characters from SSBB in some of these mario games, such as Mario Kart.

And here's where the fallibility of the Wii's motion sensing comes into play. If every game released is just another variation of "wiggle the controller to perform X action," people will get bored pretty quick.

My guess is that the masses are realizing this already...hence Wii Fit. Now the masses can "shift your balance left or right to perform X action," until Nintendo thinks of a new way to keep the ride going.

Nintendo is really becoming a joke. Slap a Mario skin on Wii Sports baseball and sell it for 50 bucks.

"no one belongs here more than you" is a pretty good book. It's a bunch of short stories. I liked it.

I've been a Mario fan since day 1. Seeing this headline made me die a little inside.

While I do think the Nintendo franchises are strong, Sakurai made an excellent comment in his blog regarding the need for more franchises from Nintendo. It's been a rather long drought - I think he said something like 6 years.

I think Nintendo's probably hesitant to just put effort into a new IP because their old ones sell so well, and anything new will have some pretty big shoes to fill. It's a big risk for them... but as a gamer, I want them to take it.

That said, I'm more interested in a Mario Tennis rather than a Mario Baseball.

If Nintendo dropped the mario wacky cutesy aspect, and made a serious deep baseball/tennis game as a stand alone title with their best ability to make good waggle for it, i'd buy it. but not this. no.

I'm actually kind of looking forward to this. A baseball game done by Nintendo...now maybe FINALLY something besides Wii Sports will actually USE the damn motion controls the way we all envisioned them a year and half ago.

Man, how many times is Nintendo going to release a game, slap Mario's name on it, include the same roster of players and say that's its new. Are people that in love with Mario that they will buy anything that has his name on it? Everyone cries about EA releasing the same game with a different game but Nintendo has surpassed them by a long shot. I wonder if that would work with other IP's. Halo Golf, Metal Gear Solid Deer Hunter or Final Fantasy XII...oh wait the last one is real.

you're funny. But do you think Halo 3 would have smashed all of the records if it didn't have the name Halo? I'm willing to bet it wouldn't have.

What is done between Nintendo and EA is totally different. EA, sans generational leaps, does rerelease the same game with different rosters on an annual basis, Nintendo releases different games tied to the same IP

Both are not the best practices, but they are totally different "crimes"

No more of this nonsense. Give me Mario tennis or give me death! Preferable with non-waggle controls and having dropped the special moves from the GC version, but I'll take what I can get.

INORITE?

THAT'S WHY I STICK WITH MICROSOFT AND SONY. AT LEAST THEY DON'T RELEASE SEQUELS THAT ARE THE SAME EXACT GAMES AS THE PREVIOUS TITLE IN AN EFFORT TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF A TITLE'S POPULARITY. THEY WOULD NEVER DO THAT!!!!!!!!!

heh.

Sequels are fine, but I think the point is that there comes a time when you just need to retire a franchise.

Tomb Raider should have died a long time ago, but somehow now it's come full-circle and the new one is supposed to be pretty cool. Ironically they said they took a lot of "inspiration" from Uncharted.

Some games I wish they continued making sequels to. I'm still waiting for Diablo 3... Oh, right they did make it... it's called World of Warcraft.

The reason why this crap is giving psome eople a sour taste in their mouths is that franchises is ALL nintendo has going for itself. That's it. You CAN'T say that about sony or microsoft. You can say there's this game on xbox and this game on the ps that's an over-milked money cow...but as a whole both systems and many companies at least don't rely completely on franchises.
I just bought Ikaruga for instance. Great game. I would like a sequel, but treasure made it just a game. That's it! It's not a franchise. It's no longer burger king, or mcdonalds, or wendy's and it is in fact just a great restaurant that you can only find in one place...and it's better because of it. Sure, they relocated to microsoftville, but it's still that same restaurant with the same individuality. They're gonna use that revenue to INVENT, and apply IDEAS.
Nintendo can't seem to just make a game...every damn thing is a franchise... they truly make games to make money. They're not even bothering anymore to disguise that. I'm sure Treasure loves money too, but not enough to sacrifice integrity for it.
And the reason why nintendo games are "fun" is because they don't even bother to make sequels...just upgrades. 60 buck upgrades.
The Wii gave me the impression that nintendo was cracking out of their money-shell. Boy was I wrong. 3 months later...poof. Right back in that shell.

But semantics aside you're completely right. They've become EXACTLY what EA is and for some reason no one cares (although more and more people are waking up every month)

Thats the dumbest shit I've ever heard. While the Wii may not be a visual powerhouse, just about every sequel I've played on it has been a signifigant upgrade from the past titles. Sure, every once in a while there's a Radiant Dawn or a Mario Party 8 to fuck that up, but the majority, including (list time!) Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, LoZ:TP (to an extent), Super Paper Mario, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Strikers Charged, etc. have either included a new gameplay element that made the game feel fresh and new, or expanded on what was already there enough to merit a sequel. Seriously, this 'same game' shit is getting old, because I'm not seeing it.

Wanna know why people don't care,

It's because they also can make epic games like Galaxy and Legend of Zelda. Can EA do that? No.

Just a thought to this franchise hate... people really like franchises. You can call them sheep, or lemmings, or whatever, but we all like them. They are familiar things. How many of you shop at WALMART or stop at a fast food joint to get a quick snack? If you are traveling and need to get food do you risk going a restaurant that you've never heard of before or do you go with what is familiar. Nintendo has lots of people that are new to the video game community. Why not sell things that are going to be familiar to these people? These so called "casual" gamers are just like anybody else, they are more than likely only interested in familiar looking things. Mario is a familiar face.
Ok... that being said...

I would like to see more non-Mario games from Nintendo in the future, cause they ARE good at making games and I would like to see something new..

You make a good point. There is nothing wrong with franchises. We all need a "sure thing" every once in a while.
But going on the restaurant analogy...Nintendo is a town that only has franchises (err err suburban ohio) and let me tell you how OLD a town like that gets. VERY.

I think Sony and Microsoft got that perfect medium going right now. You can say even the DS kinda has that perfect medium.

The Wii however...has gotten WORSE than the Gamecube imho. ANd what makes it worse is that it's been 8 years since the gamecube and this town hasn't budged!

Good point. But honestly who the fuck cares? As long as the game is good, I honestly don't care if this is the 99th Mario game. If it's a Mario game, and it's good, you won't see me complaining.

Why does everyone shit on nintendo for being "unoriginal" when they never claimed it to be original in the first place? And Really, KillJebus and the like is bitching on an internet gaming site really going to do any good? Hell, you spend more time bashing the wii than you do commenting on your hailed system the PS3..

They should stick to simple games that point or allow you to use a regular gamepad since motion sensing doesn't work very good. If I knew that before hand, I would have never bought a Wii on launch day or there after.
