I concur.

Seriously, Ben Heck's major dietary intake must be lots and lots of teh awesome, dripping in win sauce and sprinkled with +1s and oneups.

There's no other explanation for his awesomeness.

I think that might just be the only comment I've read on Joystiq that earns as much win as its subject.

And since you can use Linux... imagine the possibilities with this thing! its actually a functioning Laptop, as opposed to a folding console for your knees.

Esat Dedezade,

You totally win with that comment! You may not share the same diet as Ben Heck, but you must be doing something right!

So we got here a lovely Ps3 console being stripped of it's only decent ability, the ability to play Blu-Ray movies and games in 1080p. It's bad enough the Ps3 software lineup pales in comparison to the Wii (tho the Ps3 is a great machine and i am getting one soon, the Wii still has the software advantage, and i hate casual games), but to rob it of it's 1080p abilites is deplorable. Robbing a Ps3 of 1080p is like robbing the Wii of motion sensing. It's an excellent job Ben Heck, it really is, but it's also a total waste.

You're so right. I was playing Uncharted at 720p (that's barely any p at all!) and it completely ruined the entire experience. It was like viewing an NES game through a pair of busted binoculars. Underwater.

720p PS3 games look fine. My friend has his PS3 set to 720p to his LG 42" LCDTV and it looks fantastic.

Also, Uncharted's native resolution is 720p, not 1080p. It can only be upscaled to 1080p.

Now I'm a self confessed xbox360 fan boy (but slowly seeing the error of my ways and on the road to reformation)

First of all, this thing is still a blue ray player. And I@m pretty sure you can connect it to external television sets to get your 1080p goodness.

I can't believe you called this project a total waste. there's so many things wrong with your statement that I don't have the time to list them.

Instead I'll let the -1s whitewash your comments out.

At that stage, those of you that cannot read the above comment that I'm responding to can then simply press ctrl and A to select all and read what I am referring to above.

Good day to you all.

Ctrl + A = select all

I didn't know that, I really didn't.

My time spent procrastinating on Joystiq actually means something.

Matt B

You misunderstood what I meant.

My comment was in response to 'mr white out' above when he complained that this laptop could not play blu ray.

I should have probably said 'the ps3 laptop is still a blu ray player' to avoid any confusion.

Lolz @ Ludwig...

Foetoid, I'm pretty sure the PS3 has alot more going for it than the ability to view in 1080p. You're selling your own console short that way. I totally want one of these...

Once again Esat Dedezade wins!

Seriously, he said all I wanted to say. You can obviously hook this up to a television and furthermore you can play movies in this. Not to mention this is the backwards compatible model so someone could play older games as well! This is better than Sony's version!

Sigh,

manaman

Nice. I find this more impressive then the 360 and Wii laptops (which is still VERY impressive) becuase the insides of a PS3 is a lot more fiddly and integrated with the case. The other two are more or less motherboards in a box.

I have zero desire to buy a PS3, but I still found myself wanting to bid on this. It's just cool and even at 16 pounds it's more practical than the Wii laptop for eases of use. Great Job as always Mr. Heck.

I doubt this thing even runs off a battery.

You still probably have to plug it in to a power socket before it will evn turn on for any period of time.

The point of it is it's still portable as you can take it somewhere and set it up without having to drag a tv with you as well i.e. lan parties e.t.c.

That and it just totally pwns.

Actually, the PS3 doesn't suck down quite as much power as you'd think, but yeah, I definitely wouldn't gauge the battery life past an hour or two, tops.

What makes this cool is since you can run linux on it it also would work as a ridiculously heavy laptop.

To all the fanboys, please don't defame me!

I'm not a fan of the current PS3's, but I would honestly grab and enjoy this piece of equipment. It's the backwards compatible model. It's sleeker and, in my opinion, much prettier than the machine from which it originates. It's set up with a keyboard. It can plug into your television. It has fake chrome. . . .

This thing smacks of win,

manaman
