Here's a reader-submitted image (via IGN) from January 2004, brought back to our attention by DS Fanboy in light of today's DS revision rumor. We gotta say, they were oh so close to the final design. (Fingers crossed for the "DS Evn Liter" announcement.) Check out the highlights for today:

Wait. Does that say Nintendo BS in the title? Maybe it's just my imagination.
BPM [SSBB: 5026 4120 1186] @ Apr 12th 2008 12:09AM
Nope, it certainly is BS.
Einhanderkiller @ Apr 12th 2008 12:37AM
Your statement that it is BS is BS.

(Sorry, wrong place, but...)
Will you add me on Brawl, BPM?
mr nimblewick @ Apr 12th 2008 1:16AM
I'm excited for a new ds. I still have my near-launch fat one.
fischju @ Apr 12th 2008 1:40AM
I think they have a newer one out. Your wait is over!
Gewurztraminer says: R.O.B. is the last Cylon! @ Apr 12th 2008 8:55AM
I believe he means to skip over the Lite. As do I.
As long as the next one doesn't resemble this:

If there is a new DS in the works, I bet anything its main selling point will be motion sensoring crap and other features to make it more compatible with the cash cow Wii (ala remote play)
Vegnagun bwf @ Apr 12th 2008 1:47AM
They mean a new SKU of DS, not a new Nintendo portable system.
born2kill @ Apr 12th 2008 2:24AM
yes I know its still a DS but nintendo always includes something new into their upgrades, to warrent a repurchase. The lite really has no big design flaws, so that means something entirely new is probably in store. And knowing how they think, its aint going to be multimedia functions or online features; I'm predicting it will be more motion stuff, so they can remake Wiisports and other waggling-shovelware on the DS and make a crap load more money. Thats an easy billion dollars if they time it right and release it when the demand for the Wii starts to die down.
TheOverlord#2(Toon Link FTW)(1461-5875-9923) @ Apr 12th 2008 2:54AM
Opera has a DS game out that can take you online. I hear it's crappy(no Flash player, slow loading times) but Nintendo sells it exclusively on their site...
mr nimblewick @ Apr 12th 2008 10:53AM
I'm just hoping for some flash memory that'll let me take my virtual console games on the go.
Extinction @ Apr 12th 2008 1:31PM
"but nintendo always includes something new into their upgrades"
No they don't. They never do in terms of input devices, they only improve the screen/brightness and the size of the unit itself. NOTHING ELSE.
born2kill @ Apr 12th 2008 2:16PM
Okay, so what the hell could they possibly upgrade in the lite???...
Jansperus @ Apr 12th 2008 11:07PM
I think the fact that you can't imagine any way Nintendo can make the DS more awesome speaks more about YOU than about them.
This is what we get from the generation who believes that "more polygons and more blooming effects" equals hardcore innovation.
born2kill @ Apr 12th 2008 11:18PM
Thats not an answer genius. Give me some hardware upgrades to the lite that would warrant a repurchase, which are not entirely new to the system.....
nxtiak @ Apr 12th 2008 1:49AM
It would be cool if that actually folded up correctly. Unfortunately it doesn't look like it would.
Ethan @ Apr 12th 2008 2:11AM
The whole 'why two screens' question seemed quite pertinent at the time, until I actually used the thing and figured it'd be pretty hard to play if your hand was covering the only screen in some games.
Firetruck @ Apr 12th 2008 6:51AM
im sure if there is a new DS it will look like a wii cut in half
Chimp @ Apr 12th 2008 8:50AM
A Wii cut in half? So in other words it would be a portable gamecube! :D
Kye - NDF Sniper @ Apr 12th 2008 8:56AM
No a gamecube is half a wii without duct tape.
A wii CUT in half is just half a wii.

if there is a Ds lite re-re-design it must have the GBA slot.
i mean..
the Ds camera, Rumble pack, the slide thing, and Guitar hero Ds thgn use the Ds lite slot!!

That's not feasible.
fred @ Apr 12th 2008 11:59AM
i do too
Dr0ooo @ Apr 12th 2008 12:11PM
Ohh Nintendo! When will they cease their non-stop domination of the portable gaming market. I'll say one thing, I hope they lower the price on the DS at least before they release a new revised version of it.
EKAJ13 @ Apr 12th 2008 4:14PM
It kind of annoys me to be reading about this possible redesign just two days after purchasing a Nintendo DS Lite for myself.
Maverick Saturn @ Apr 12th 2008 7:46PM
DS, BS, whats the difference, one is about dogs the other is about bulls, but its still the same topic :S
Psaakyrn @ Apr 13th 2008 12:59AM
If anything, I'd like to see a home-brew friendly DS. One can dream. :p
(other alternatives include: Phone/DS, PDA/DS, MP3 player/DS (with the option to replace tunes ingame, or extrace tunes to listen off-game))
jmf @ Apr 13th 2008 10:37AM
Nintendo BS.....nice. Even if the thing was real, how the hell would you fold it up? It boggles my mind.
