Shigeru Miyamoto back for round two -- nominated for 2008 Time 100
We imagine that Shigeru Miyamoto, creator of some of the most recognizable intellectual properties on the planet, doesn't like coming in second place -- let alone ninety-second place. Unfortunately for the banjo-plucking game designer, that was the case in last year's Time 100 list, when Shiggy, sandwiched between the world's fifth richest man and the author of "The Secret", nearly didn't make the cut. Though his pride was surely bruised, Miyamoto wasn't discouraged by the low ranking -- he merely stepped up his game, providing oversight for some of last year's best-selling Wii titles.Perhaps that's why he's been nominated for the 2008 Time 100 list, where dedicated Nintendo fanboys have pushed the eccentric designer to number 27 -- somewhere between Michael Cera and Oprah. Your votes can help propel the father of modern video gaming to the top of the list, a position currently held by a certain precipitationally-named Korean pop star. Unless, of course, you're anti-Shiggy -- but who could you say "no" to that adorable face?

I wonder if Shigeru still have that Joystiq t-shirt...

It's an honor just to be nominated, of course, but seriously, you guys... vote for me.

VOTE FOR COLBERT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A Pissed-off English Gamer @ Apr 13th 2008 9:22AM
Was just about to say vote Colbert. He's the man.
Mr Khan @ Apr 12th 2008 3:17PM
Someone needs to make a bot to do this
Samuel @ Nov 13th 2008 5:59PM
Looks like someone already did, he's currently at no. 5!
samfish @ Apr 12th 2008 3:18PM
It's kind of ironic that, as of this moment, he's one place behind Elliot Spitzer.
samfish @ Apr 12th 2008 3:38PM
Wait, no. My mistake. That was just the list thingy.
...still...if nothing else, we should all band together and knock this Rain douche off the number 1 spot.
Seriously...WTF is up with that?
Nigeria: Cody ChesnuTT Defense Force @ Apr 12th 2008 3:45PM
I voted for Rain yesterday and today. I also voted for Colbert, but that was only yesterday.
samfish @ Apr 12th 2008 3:51PM
You are SO off my Christmas card list if you're serious.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Apr 12th 2008 3:52PM
Seriously?
That's so sad.
Nigeria: Cody ChesnuTT Defense Force @ Apr 12th 2008 3:57PM
...guys, I only joking.
I wouldn't vote for a sexy South Korean pop singer in an online poll. What kind of guy do you think I am?
Shmil (Brawl Code 2621-2310-1994) @ Apr 12th 2008 4:10PM
But you would vote for Colbert right?
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Apr 12th 2008 5:42PM
At least he's singin' in Korean. XD
rv @ Apr 12th 2008 8:13PM
Vote colbert over rain. Have you seen his rain like music video?

Sexy.
theturtle363 @ Apr 12th 2008 3:20PM
It's really quite disheartening what some people rank them as. I mean for god sakes, Miley Cyrus is only a few points behind Vladimir Putin.
Mr Khan @ Apr 12th 2008 3:42PM
Why?
Putin restricts freedom in Russia, Miley enslaves the hearts and minds of America's youth
Neebs @ Apr 12th 2008 3:44PM
Putin helps Russia to recover from economic unrest, and stands up to the US over missiles in Eastern Europe. Much like Tito's Yugoslavia to Stalin.
theturtle363 @ Apr 12th 2008 4:14PM
it's not a poll of how much you like the people ( which unfortunately people vote as it is), it's how influential they are. Putin controls Russia, that's a lot bigger impact on the world than Hannah Montana or Rain
Mr Khan @ Apr 12th 2008 4:22PM
I was only kidding. I kinda support what Putin's done for Russia, cuz i've been rooting for the Big Bear ever since the USSR collapsed, and he turned them back from a joke to a global player in the span of eight years, and stopped the violence in Chechnya
However, the fall of liberties in that nation is undeniable, and it gives great misgiving
Makes you wonder if Medvedev will be any better
Trickob @ Apr 12th 2008 4:29PM
considering that Medvedev is Putin's lapdog, i doubt that he will be any better or worse. I'm not saying that's a good or bad thing, i'm just saying is all...
tmacairjordan87 @ Apr 12th 2008 7:25PM
Idk how anyone could root for putin when he's trying desperately but carefully to restore the soviet union. Anyone wonder why he doesn't want us building a missile shield in europe? durr then he couldn't threaten western europe with missles.
A reborn Soviet union allied with China would not be a good thing for anyone
Noshino @ Apr 13th 2008 10:38AM
"it's not a poll of how much you like the people ( which unfortunately people vote as it is), it's how influential they are. Putin controls Russia, that's a lot bigger impact on the world than Hannah Montana or Rain "
The fact that you like someone makes that someone influential because in a way they can use you, and at the moment, yes Putin has a higher impact, but seriously, I can assure you that 90% of the US population knows who Hannah Montana is (going beyond what the Britney Spears craze created), making her REALLY influential...unfortunately....
bobnewman @ Apr 12th 2008 3:31PM
Long live Chibi Shiggy!. Put my vote in for Shigg-unit.
JohnnyW @ Apr 12th 2008 3:51PM
Blatently all of the Korean Internets has voted this Rain dude up.
Jerk Face v2.0 (MDF Edition) @ Apr 12th 2008 4:27PM
I can see them all in their millions of internet gaming cafes voting RIGHT NOW.
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Apr 12th 2008 5:44PM
Rain's actually pretty fucking popular in the rest of Asia: I went to Thailand over the summer and when we were at this friend's house, his daughter had a Rain poster. XD
Colin @ Apr 12th 2008 3:52PM
I'd still pay for that t-shirt...
Jay @ Apr 12th 2008 4:13PM
I want Shiggy to come in one place above Colbert.....because we all know that's gonna start a chain of events and before we know it Nintendo will be getting the Colbert bump.
vgxtremist @ Apr 12th 2008 4:17PM
This man can do no wrong...allegedally.
Mr Khan @ Apr 12th 2008 4:24PM
To be fair, he is responsible for the beginning of the whoring-out of the StarFox franchise, as it was he who recommended that Rare halt their N64 Dinosaur Planet project, and make it into a StarFox game for GC
But yeah, mostly no wrong
Shadow El @ Apr 12th 2008 4:54PM
There are only 5 games in the series, since 1993. I'd hardly call that "whoring out". It's not like there have been 6 series since the 1980s, each with multiple entries. *prods a certain blue robot*
Mario's more whored out than Star Fox as well. Sadly, Sonic's also getting there.
Yourself @ Apr 12th 2008 5:58PM
Star Fox Command was criminally underrated. That game rocked. The rest of the series... well except for 64 it can pretty much go to hell. Anyone who talks about how great the original must be borrowing a pair of Cyclops' shades.
Yourself @ Apr 12th 2008 5:59PM
...how great the original *is*...
Mr Khan @ Apr 12th 2008 6:28PM
Whoring not used in the sense that they made so many, but in the sense that 1: They were sending the franchise to other developers and 2: The franchise took a departure from the core elements of the first two games
Personally, i liked them all except Adventures itself, so i'm not complaining
Shadow El @ Apr 12th 2008 7:03PM
I think Assault was pretty awesome, and Command owned face. (Mainly because I always loved "All-Range" mode more than the on-rails sections.) Adventures was also good. It wasn't "Star Fox" good, but it was good. It's a Rare game, what would you expect?
ChooChooCharlie (Brawl: 1504-5357-9285) @ Apr 12th 2008 4:30PM
Wait a minute ... Madonna, Perez Hilton, and Bono are all above rank 20? Are you fucking kidding me?
Whatever hope I had for humanity is gone now.
el serpiente @ Apr 12th 2008 4:54PM
If you view humanity through the lens of mass media and popular culture, then it all certainly looks like a waste of time. But always remember that they are a vicious distortion of reality, and not reality itself.
SoulBlade @ Apr 12th 2008 4:39PM
Man's a genius. He deserves a spot in the top 100.
Shadow El @ Apr 12th 2008 4:55PM
Since he's been involved with the creation of countless amazing video game franchises, and this year contributed to the development of one of the best platformers ever created, I say he deserves a spot. *votes for him*
Joeshie @ Apr 12th 2008 5:00PM
Who cares? This poll is one big joke. Rain is currently voted as the most influential person in the world.
Saria the Cat @ Apr 12th 2008 5:06PM
WTF, Britney Spears? Poll = Fail.
Mikey @ Apr 12th 2008 5:20PM
Can we nominate Karl Pilkington for roundest head of the year?
Mills and Boom @ Apr 12th 2008 5:29PM
Good gravy that's an old reference. Is the podcast still going? Stopped listening when they wanted money for it.
Mikey @ Apr 12th 2008 5:39PM
I just torrented them when they did that. They haven't done any in a while; but for the last 6 weeks or so, Rick has been keeping up a blog in which he has been hassling him into doing more.
AlphaOmegaSin @ Apr 12th 2008 5:31PM
Al Bundy should be on that list, he single handedly cured aids, got us out of economic debt, found out who shot kennedy, knows where the ramsy girl is, and created the toaster. Hes a great man, a great shoe selling man. Long live Married with Children :D
