Alleged Grand Theft Auto IV intro video
We're not going to tell someone who went through the trouble of (potentially) uploading the intro from Grand Theft Auto IV into the internet's loving embrace how to do a better job the next time they get their hands on a "leaked" copy of a highly anticipated game, but ... here's a couple pointers just in case. If you're going to show yourself taking the disc out of the case and dropping it into the machine to prove its authenticity, it usually helps not to follow that with an edit dissolving any credibility you may have gained with the whole disc thing.
Also – as much as we love seeing the title credits and watching the loading screen as it inches forward ever. so. slowly. – if you're going upload video from your leaked copy of the game, would it really be such a bother to show off some gameplay footage? Seriously, anything?

It's a fake disc, there's no holograms on the inner ring.
Doom3killer @ Apr 14th 2008 7:57PM
the european disks look different
Alex S. @ Apr 14th 2008 8:00PM
http://360.ringoffates.com/Label/Quake%204%20(label).jpg
looks the same to me.
Doom3killer @ Apr 14th 2008 8:03PM
still, if he were faking it, why wouldn't he just print the label smaller, or mod a different xbox 360 game to look like that
Cal @ Apr 14th 2008 10:26PM
He probably didn't notice the hologram on 360 discs, or hoped no one would notice. When I first saw this I thought the disc looked weird, and then went to check a few of my 360 games, and only then realised that they're supposed to have that hologram on it
LOKIOLR @ Apr 14th 2008 7:55PM
It's a just hacked version of GTA:SA with the intro artwork replaced.
nerrrrrrd @ Apr 14th 2008 9:14PM
you are correct! why am I even reading this on joystiq?
Cal @ Apr 14th 2008 10:24PM
Because after everyone else pointed it out on youtube he disabled comments?
SQUIRTFORCE @ Apr 14th 2008 7:55PM
What a waste of time. Especially for us.
quickshade @ Apr 14th 2008 7:55PM
If it is fake he went through alot of work to get that intro right and to look legit.
Doom3killer @ Apr 14th 2008 7:58PM
why doesn't anyone believe that this could be real?
SQUIRTFORCE @ Apr 14th 2008 8:01PM
Why don't they show any gameplay? And the credits are shockingly lame.
Doom3killer @ Apr 14th 2008 8:02PM
still, the other GTA games began like this.
menuka @ Apr 14th 2008 10:13PM
because this is exactly the same as the San Andreas Opening...the EXACT same developers and stuff...plus all the images are images we've already seen...rockstar wouldn't be too lazy to make new images...
its just a modded san andreas opening (probably from PC) being recorded onto a DVD
343 Guilty Fart @ Apr 14th 2008 7:58PM
What's with the lame dissolve? FAIL.
Mromson @ Apr 14th 2008 7:58PM
Fake. Simply by looking at what they did with the previous GTA game openings.
Danny @ Apr 14th 2008 8:02PM
He uploaded the gameplay part of the video, too.

Doom3killer @ Apr 14th 2008 8:04PM
EPIC FAIL
DarkTetsuya @ Apr 14th 2008 9:45PM
Didn't you get the memo? That sorta thing just isn't funny anymore. (and agreed, FAIL.)
Also agreed, dissolves = fake.
Phizzy @ Apr 14th 2008 10:21PM
Ergh, you could at least rainroll people.
DjPxH @ Apr 14th 2008 8:03PM
Wow.. some ppl still believe in this shitty video??? it's a modified intro video from San Andreas. Also, he's playing the video on his computer monitor (?? lol).
Notice the font of the art box (Where Grand Theft Auto is written). Also he didnt fold the paper properly. (Look carefuly when he shows the side of the box)
Also, the official back cover has been shown for a couple of days. it does not match the one shown in the video.
Doom3killer @ Apr 14th 2008 8:05PM
hey! some people use monitors as their TVs. the same reason why there are third party accesories for doing it. Also, there r few games where the box art looks the same everywhere. Hell, it even looks different in different European countries
DjPxH @ Apr 14th 2008 8:10PM
Oh yea for sure. I was using one until last year. My point is that it is always easier to do a 'fake video' using a computer monitor than a tv no? You have my point :)
And how can you explain the video shown? The SA intro mod I should say.
And also, why would you bother uploading the intro/loading with no gameplay?
Common....
Doom3killer @ Apr 14th 2008 8:11PM
good point.. thanks for not being a flame war jerk.. anyway, this is what i hate about blogs, posters end up making me change my mind. i guess it probably is fake. i just realized that the 16+ and 18+ logos are larger then the one shown on the disk
DjPxH @ Apr 14th 2008 8:14PM
:) Trust me, I want to see this game leaked as much as everybody else here.
Thanks for the comments!
Dr. @ Apr 15th 2008 9:35AM
A TV wouldn't lend any credibility. Hooking up a computer to a modern TV is no harder than hooking it to a monitor -- they tend to have the same inputs.
shawn @ Apr 14th 2008 8:04PM
all of those artwork screens in the intro and loading screen were publicly released.
Doom3killer @ Apr 14th 2008 8:06PM
i wouldn't expect them to show images that could be spoilers.
shawn @ Apr 14th 2008 8:10PM
thats exactly what i mean, he just put those all together on some film editer, put frames over it with fake credits(or maybe he used the ones from san andreas), used the gta:4 logo on the loading screen, animated the loading bar, burned it to a dvd, made a label, made a boxslip and made a b.s. video on his crap t.v.
Dave K @ Apr 14th 2008 8:06PM
just as i said on the video comments, i would believe it if he didn't hold gameplay footage hostage. Smells like a get-rich scheme to me....
question. if people did give him money, and he put up obviously fake gameplay footage...could i then sue him for fraud??
Doom3killer @ Apr 14th 2008 8:08PM
have him sign an agreement and then yes, u could :)
Max @ Apr 14th 2008 8:09PM
Please Joystiq, refrain from feeding the trolls.
Doom3killer @ Apr 14th 2008 8:10PM
+ stop posting vids that could or could not be real. only post facts. don't be fox news
Danny @ Apr 14th 2008 8:10PM
Doom3Killer to comment below here, taking all bets.
Doom3killer @ Apr 14th 2008 8:12PM
hooray! i won the bet - lol
Doom3killer @ Apr 14th 2008 8:13PM
p.s. i don't know why i'm defending this guy. i gues i just want ANYTHING new on GTAIV to be true. i'm gonna be SO mad if that achievement list ends up being fake
Tiptup300 @ Apr 14th 2008 9:23PM
Irritating guy is irritating.
RUS BESAW @ Apr 14th 2008 8:14PM
First , very cool if real .....epic props goes to whoever put in all the effort to get it so close to "real" and IF it is real ,holy jeez thats a long loading time for a game like this, you'd a think that R* would have put a little effort toward fixing that !
Peace out my homies !!!!!!
Danny @ Apr 14th 2008 8:17PM
It looks about right considering that it's the only load screen you'll ever see.
Doom3killer @ Apr 14th 2008 8:18PM
please GTA, don't be halo 3. i was promised only 1 loading screen. and yet i saw one every time i beat a level WTF!
Cal @ Apr 15th 2008 10:05AM
You were also promised a good game and got a pile of shit, but there's no way R* could let us down, is there?
shawn @ Apr 14th 2008 8:13PM
also they have the artists draw a hell of a lot more than a few artwork pictures, usually all the pre release artworks are usually used on the box or just for promotional purposes in media. rarley they use certain screens in the intro, thats usually gameplay.
allwrighte @ Apr 14th 2008 8:19PM
Whether legit or not, nice job NOT signing into xbox live lol
Nathaniel @ Apr 14th 2008 11:02PM
Yeah no kidding, I don't understand those who pay that much for a console, to NOT use live. You can't argue that it's the expensive wireless adapter, because you can use the old one for the first xbox, plus you can just piggyback off of your laptop/desktop if you don't want to (or can't afford, in the case of myself) anything else. Plus, It's even further proof that it's fake, because if it were real, would the "Reading" at the bottom of the screen show "Grand Theft Auto IV", or "GTAIV" or something like that? I mean sure you can set your 360 to play them automatically but still, all this video did was blue-ball me.
JetPogi @ Apr 14th 2008 8:39PM
"Also – as much as we love seeing the title credits and watching the loading screen as it inches forward ever. so. slowly. – if you're going upload video from your leaked copy of the game, would it really be such a bother to show off some gameplay footage? Seriously, anything?"
Yep a leaked video could only get you somewhere where's the FOOOOOOOOTAGE!!!
hoagie @ Apr 14th 2008 8:27PM
Video edit job placed on a DVD video disc to play on the 360.
Also, I'd like to give a shout out to Doom3killer.
Alexander @ Apr 14th 2008 8:31PM
I remember seeing this back in February. I'm 99% sure it's fake.
LayLow @ Apr 14th 2008 8:33PM
Well to dead this real quick...
NO game loads that fast...
Period....
WDUK @ Apr 14th 2008 8:33PM
It is a fake.
One clear sign is the size of the BBFC rating on the front of the case. Looking at a British retail site (http://www.hmv.co.uk/hmvweb/displayProductDetails.do?sku=552963), the rating is definably too small.
I believe that it is a copy of San Andreas for the PC, with an edited loading screen, using released illustrations.
John McPoop @ Apr 14th 2008 8:35PM
Well whether its real or fake its certainly a good job ... I remember going through this when The Wire spoiler of Kenard killing Omar leaked and everyone swore it was fake ... You wouldn't believe the reasons ... I have no idea if its real or fake and I don't care ... Just want to play the game ...
