Capcom exec expects western acquisition in next 2 years
With titles like Dead Rising and Lost Planet, it seems that Capcom has developed a taste for western cuisine, at least in how it applies to game development. This observation was echoed by Capcom exec Christian Svensson, who in a recent interview noted belief that the Osaka, Japan-based company could look to add an established Western dev to its portfolio in the near future. Confessed Svensson, "I would be sort of surprised if we didn't acquire a western studio in the next two years."But Capcom knows that it has the pick of the litter, and it isn't about to let just anyone into its ivory tower. "We're not going to acquire anyone that we haven't done a game with," noted Svensson. The exec also stressed that chemistry would play a "critical" role in any future match, leaving just 28 other dimensions of happier, healthier relationships to be sorted out.

I wonder if they'll buy Ready at Dawn. That's one dev that seems to fit the bill.
Sora267 @ Apr 14th 2008 9:54PM
Capcom-EA merger CONFIRMED.
Jansperus @ Apr 14th 2008 9:58PM
This just in! Capcom is freaking AWESOME! Truly the Bret Hart of gaming: the best there is, the best there was, the best there ever will be!
Whocares @ Apr 15th 2008 12:47AM
So by that you mean Capcom's brother, whoever that is, is going to suffer a tragic loss?
finnith @ Apr 14th 2008 9:58PM
They need a dev that can come up with a cool name for the protagonist (seriously, Wayne?!?)
Afterburner @ Apr 14th 2008 10:07PM
I never did beat Lost Planet...
John McPoop @ Apr 14th 2008 10:11PM
I never finished it either ... Pretty awesome game ... Problem for me was it came out around the same time I was heavily into Gears
Afterburner @ Apr 14th 2008 10:18PM
Yeah... I got stuck somewhere. Maybe like level 9? I don't know. I couldn't figure out where to go and just didn't care enough to figure it out.
BIGGEN @ Apr 14th 2008 10:19PM
that's a shame. not so much for not completing it, although it is pretty awesome. but it sounds like you never really got into the multi player either. THAT is a shame. i played it for months on 360, and am still addicted to it and play the ps3 demo everyday. there's actually an LP Demo community. weird.
Afterburner @ Apr 14th 2008 10:21PM
Yeah, I never really could get into the multiplayer. I think I was too much into Gears at the time and just kind of ignored it. Plus it was a rental, so even if I did get into it it would be short lived.
BIGGEN @ Apr 14th 2008 10:25PM
yeah, i pretty much went the opposite way you did with gears and LP. kind of ignored gears and found my niche with LP.
John McPoop @ Apr 14th 2008 10:27PM
Yeah I didn't get into the MP that much either ... The same thing happend with me and Bioshock ... I played it and got really far ... ended up putting it down and when I went back to it I was completely lost ... I have to start from the beginning at some point ... Same thing with LP ... Great game though as ALL capcom games are ... In fact I recently purchased Okami because its one I somehow missed out on ... I guess Killer 7 was the one capcom game I didn't like at all ... They are def my fav developer though
Arttemis @ Apr 14th 2008 10:20PM
Capcom already created a western - until Rockstar purchased it: Red Dead Revolver.

Wow, I seriously read each instance of the word 'western' to imply the film genre... which they need to go ahead and do anyway - with an American/European company or not.
Needs more Sergio Leone and Ennio Morricone.
John McPoop @ Apr 14th 2008 11:28PM
looked better under capcom
bm @ Apr 14th 2008 10:25PM
For a second there when I read the title I thought Capcom were expecting to -be- aquired by a western developer, and my heart skipped a beat. :'(
DangerMouse @ Apr 14th 2008 10:40PM
Well, I'm finally coming around with Resident Evil 4. It's getting a lot better towards the middle. I still feel the developers got lazy with the game, but at least it's not as frustrating as the old RE games were.
John McPoop @ Apr 14th 2008 11:30PM
Its an awesome game ... better when u unlock the infinite rocket launcher and chicago typewriter ... just wait till u beat and then test yourself on assignment ada and the zombie mini game ... u get to play as wesker, ada, leon and some masked dude who has a wicked break neck combo move if done right it can go on infinite ... That game is one of my favorites of all time
BIGGEN @ Apr 14th 2008 11:53PM
still trying to figure out where the "devs got lazy." that's about the most UNlazy game i've ever played. the only thing lazy i saw (which is in all games) is repetitive enemies.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Apr 15th 2008 12:52AM
Smart move Capcom. As much as I love Nintendo, I do realize that Nintendo, as well as other japanese developers and publishers, represent the old ways of gaming. It's nice to know that Capcom is embracing change.
Squirrel3D @ Apr 15th 2008 1:03AM
When you say change, I was afraid you might mention Obama....oh boy..there's the flame bait.
Who the heck is capcom gonna purchase? Are there any known developers other than the big names here in america?
(BTW, I'm black and I'm not voting for barrack HUSSEIN obama. There's your flame bait)
Pointz @ Apr 15th 2008 2:08AM
That's one crazy Cap-compass you got there. I don't think they will buy R@D because they want to be an independant company. Resident Evil 4 never dropped in quality, especially if you saw the last boss fight, I won't spoil anymore coz it's gaming holy grail. Best game ever.
Benny @ Apr 15th 2008 6:59AM
I really really thought this was Capcom expecting to be bought out by EA. I nearly died.
baby sea tuna @ Apr 15th 2008 8:48AM
As did I. Well, not necessarily EA, but definitely some big Western development house.
Tim The Enchanter @ Apr 15th 2008 11:19AM
Well, I'm glad it's the other way around... I love Capcom.
