Is it me, or does the Metroidvania formula just absolutely never get old? I could play games like this all day.

I'm a fan of all of them except that last one. If the first area song isn't spectacular then my sad tone is set.

DoS is one of the best games I've ever played.

I second that. Now if we could just get some Metroid Dread, we'll be set!

It's getting old to me because they're running out of ideas. Dawn of Sorrow was great, but Portrait of Ruin was awful. They opted for quick production and threw in 3d renders for backgrounds and recycled everything from previous games. It was like Castlevania mugen. I'd rather they come up with a new method other than the Castleroid style, or go back to the old school NES style, but make it with multiple paths, multiple characters and much more rewarding.

I agree that portrait was recycled garbage. For some reason though, I always enjoy 2D Metroid and 2D Castlevania games, regardless of how little they change them. Just like Mega Man X style games (Zero, ZX) As long as they just polish and increase the quality of the sprites (frames and resolution), I'm happy. I'm a simple man though.

OMG a castlevania game for a nintendo handheld. This is a truly revolutionary and groundbreaking revelation.

That being said I gotta go back and play the 15 other ones.

I can agree with that. My problem with them is along the lines of what fidious wong said above in that they're all the same thing. I'm kinda burned out on the series now.

Man I love the Castlevania series (currently working on Portrait Ruin), but it's pretty clear the developers are in love with the naming convention: "Castlevania: of [the] ".

Order of Ecclesia
Portrait of Ruin
Dawn of Sorrow
Aria of Sorrow
Harmony of Dissonance
Circle of the Moon
Symphony of the Night
etc...

OK so I didnt realize tags get taken out comments, but it was meant to say "Castlevania: SOMETHING of [the] SOMETHING"

Not only that, but it generally has to do with music as well, to go into it deeper.

Aria
Harmony
Dissonance
Symphony....see where it's going?

This rocks. I was just thinking how now would be a good time to play a new Castlevania game on my DS. I haven't used the DS much recently and this would instantly get me back.

Doubtful speculation over on DS fanboy says it might be a port of the Mobile Castlevania game they made recently, since they could see no other reason for them to keep it in the dark before it was complete enough for the ESRB to rate it

Another Castlevania! Well, i'm always up for it as long as they don't ruin the formula. I used to say the same thing for Final Fantasy, then all hell broke loose.

in reference to the belmont over the beaumont switch it's probably because of a retranslation or a righting of a wrong translation. "Mont" is a masculine French noun. "Beau" is the masculine form of the French word for "beauty". "Belle" is the feminine form of "beau". Not "bel". My guess is that it was retranslated and they did it right this time. And also that since it's on the DS they expected to have it go unnoticed by younger crowds who haven't played Castlevania games since the beginning.

"bel" is also French. It is used if the subject starts with a vowel/mute h.

Just sayin'.

you're exactly right. despite having just taken a CLEP test for French i completely forgot that. in any case, "beau" would still be the choice for "mont".

I just hope this game doesn't star some stupid ass teenagers. Seriously, that's my biggest beef with the last DS titles. I'm sorry, Konami, if I wanted to play a game about some teenagers who SAVE THE WORLD, I'd be playing Pokemon, okay? Let's go back to Castlevanias with REAL MEN like Alucard and Simon Beaumont!

actually it stars neither families beamont or belmont
this is a completly new character.
her name is shenoa
she is a raven haired girl from the order of eccelia,
a group wanting to take dracula down
the interesting thing is that she does not really wield a weapon.
she has these creasts on her arms and back that allow her to in essence use the power of weapons, otherwise known as glyphs.
If you guys have any questions reply to this and i will answer them to the best of my ability.
not only is the first castlevania to star a female
but it is also the first to have a nonlinear world map
and so you can visit more places then just dracula's castle.
