The Ant Commandos announce new music gear
As games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero continue to gobble up market and mind share, it's a safe bet you're going to continue to see more manufacturers trying to one-up the originals with their own take on the fake instruments. To that end, longtime guitar crafter The Ant Commandos is back with a new line-up of gear coming this spring.
First are two new wireless products, The Widow Maker Wireless Bass Guitar and The Double Range Guitar, compatible with Rock Band and Guitar Hero 1, 2 and 3 for the PS2 and PS3. Also this season, look for a wireless Rock Band mic (we're still trying to find out for which platforms) and illuminated drumsticks from the company. Most intriguing though is a new listed guitar feature called FreedomClip, "a special belt clip that allows for strap-free play." Will this finally allow us to pull off the fabled ZZ Top guitar spin? We're ashamed to admit it ... but we called TAC's PR firm to confirm that it indeed will. Guess we'll be adding another guitar to our increasingly crowded living room.
Check out the gear with descriptions from TAC in the gallery below.

Coming from someone who hasn't played RB or GH yet, is it unique that this quitar has the buttons at the top and bottom of the neck? Never noticed it on any pictures I've seen before.
Synner @ Apr 14th 2008 3:13PM
For rock band you have the bottom buttons that can be "fingered" during the solos ie, hit without strumming.
GH doesn't use them though.
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Apr 15th 2008 2:09AM
Haha Synner said fingered.
Synner @ Apr 14th 2008 3:14PM
Sounds sweet but the only ant commandos guitar I have ever seen was about 2/3 the size of the already tiny GH guitar.
Any word on if these are going to be equally tiny?

Im waiting for a Mad Catz $25 guitar to get another.
Chase @ Apr 14th 2008 3:37PM
Mad Catz sucks.
PojoMofo @ Apr 14th 2008 3:47PM
Mad Catz stuff is cheap. I like cheap stuff. win/win

I wonder why there are no Wii/360 versions. Surely they must realize PS3 isn't where the majority install base is/will be for the foreseeable future.
philly @ Apr 14th 2008 10:49PM
this isn't really needed for the 360 right now b/c u can use the gh controller for rock band already. u can't use the guitars interchangeably for the ps3. and we don't know how the wii's compatibility will be yet so prob no reason to release it yet.
so if i got it right... the 2 guitars do the exact same stuff, except with for $10 more u get the widow maker, which looks like a base guitar (and i must admit nicer..)? as long as the quality is the same i'll be getting the double range. spent enought on rb and gh3 as it is
Chase @ Apr 14th 2008 3:39PM
Release all of that for the 360, plz. kthxbi

I'm thinking of getting the FreedomClip because the Rock Band guitar's strap is garbage.
"Holy shit, I'm FCing Wanted Dead or Alive!" *pop* FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK
Erwos @ Apr 14th 2008 4:53PM
I would assume the wireless mic works on the 360 and PS3, just like the regular one does.
MAttyboi @ Apr 14th 2008 4:58PM
Ill be picking one of these up for sure. Finally someone released a quality guitar

I want the bass guitar for my 360 :(
I play bass guitar in my "band" and would LOVE to have this.
rca @ Apr 14th 2008 6:29PM
It's good to see some aftermarket guitars compatible with both GH3 and RB finally becoming available. Too bad it still won't work for GH1 and GH2 on a PS3. I would think a bluetooth wireless guitar would work for playing the older titles on a PS3. I'm surprised we haven't seen a BT guitar yet.
Redface @ Apr 14th 2008 8:30PM
I would buy that bass in a heartbeat if it were available for the xbox. So. Awesome.

Does anyone know when these guitars will be out?
