Are you buying the Halo 3 Legendary map pack?
When the Heroic map pack went free (as we presume Legendary will at some point) there was actually a mini-renaissance of Halo 3 around the Joystiq offices. Now, that doesn't mean we're going to drop 10 bucks for one fresh map and two remakes, but we are looking forward to the Legendary pack going free. We are curious though: Are you playing enough Halo 3 to justify the purchase? Or will you be waiting?

no, are you?
eddyk @ Apr 15th 2008 1:37PM
No, this is pure rape !
Those maps should be free and early adopters will once again get pwnd.
rv @ Apr 15th 2008 1:49PM
No, no, no. For many reasons
The first being that the other 3 just became free, and I just got those. I haven't even played rats nest and standoff outside of rocket race.
Second, gta4 is coming out soon, which is what Ill probably play most. There is also cod4, which I haven't purchased the maps for either.
Third, there is no custom games list. Screw dlc matchmaking. Bungie hasn't even come out with any good community playlists besides rocket race, which I absolutely love. Seriously, they said they would do this near launch. It's been 7 months now, what the hell.
Hala Madrid!!! (You fail to impress me with your skillz) @ Apr 15th 2008 1:51PM
NOPE, my money is on GTA4 right now
Jomolungma @ Apr 15th 2008 2:03PM
I've never played a game of Halo in my life, so the answer to your question would be.... yes, just cuz.
J.R. @ Apr 15th 2008 2:37PM
I only paid for the first map pack to play Grifball, so unless a fantastic gametype comes out for one of the new maps, I'll wait a few months until they're free.
GreyFox @ Apr 16th 2008 12:20AM
No because I really don't play the game much anymore anyways. There's just too many (dare I say?) douche bags on there. Amazing multiplayer as long as you play with friends and sans retards.
gestault @ Apr 15th 2008 1:36PM
I'm actually going to go for it. I've never bothered buying a map pack before (a holdover of PC gaming) and I've been aware that the packs would be free eventually anyway, but this one looks good enough quality-wise to justify the price. The new forge items are actually a deal maker for me. I cast 1 vote for quality.
rTwelve @ Apr 15th 2008 4:48PM
I second this man.
I am also getting them because the permanent SWAT playlist is coming shortly and Legendary is required.
Vcize @ Apr 15th 2008 1:37PM
Said it before and I'll say it again, the last batch of Halo 3 maps are the *only* time I've ever felt I didn't get my money's worth out of a map pack, because they are not integrated into matchmaking well.
Your only real options is to play a gimped as hell downloadable content playlist with pre-set teamsize and gametypes and then rotate through ONLY the new maps, rather than all the maps.
Outside of that, the new maps only show up if everyone that is matched has the maps, which never happened for me a single time in several hundred games played.
If they just split the community in two (we all know the Halo 3 community is big enough) between people that had the maps and those that didn't and put the new maps in all the playlists for people that had them I would buy them for sure. As it is though, why the hell would I pay $10 for some maps that never come up in matchmaking? Total waste.
BigDaddyBooth @ Sep 12th 2008 12:57PM
I agree with some of these points. I bought the last batch of maps, and only played a few games before I stopped. Why can't they integrate them into the normal playlists like COD4 did?
On the other hand, I bought the new COD4 maps and I play them everyday! I love the way they were able to integrate them into the existing playlists!
miyagi @ Apr 15th 2008 2:06PM
Since they went free I get them alot. Before then I agree that the matchmaking was gimped. In non-DLC playlist I would only get Foundry a few times a week in team doubles.
Maybe it depends on what playlist you're on but this weekend we went over two hours without getting Pit or Guardian. Kept getting Standoff, Rat's Nest and a mix of the old maps.
rdj75 @ Apr 15th 2008 1:39PM
I don't even know the last time I played halo3 but like a dumbass I am going to probably buy the map pack anyway and still not play it.
Mike @ Apr 15th 2008 1:41PM
Based on this response I'm going to assume it's you on the floor lookup up at the avatar.
rdj75 @ Apr 15th 2008 1:46PM
Yes Mike, unfortunately thats me looking up alright.
PSN: KillaKornbread (the shirt is a lie!) @ Apr 15th 2008 3:00PM
lol @ you two.
PojoMofo @ Apr 15th 2008 1:39PM
Im sorry, I was so busy playing the new COD4 maps I missed the question. What was it again?
oh yes Halo 3 MP. If I wanted to play with 10 years olds calling me a "douchebag" every ten seconds, I would go down to the local elementry school and play teatherball with them.
CB @ Apr 15th 2008 2:26PM
You get them a lot in CoD4 as well so stop acting like it's not.
PojoMofo @ Apr 15th 2008 2:35PM
I play COD4 on PS3 and I get, in all honestly, 1/10th the assclowns on COD4 than Halo 3. I dont know if its a PS3/360 thing, but I have a much more enjoyable time with COD4
miyagi @ Apr 15th 2008 2:41PM
IMO it's probably more of a PS3 thing.
I get 1/10 on PS3 as well, mainly because most people don't have a mic. 360 bundling a microphone can be seen as a good thing since there are more people to communicate.....or a bad thing because the 12 year olds who can't afford a bluetooth are now bugging the hell out of you.
aristokrat @ Apr 15th 2008 3:16PM
I'd definitely take you down in tetherball. I stomp the schoolchildren on a daily basis so that their dreams don't get too high.
NATO_Duke @ Apr 15th 2008 1:40PM
No. I can't stand the squeaky voices when I play it online.
miyagi @ Apr 15th 2008 2:42PM
sucks there is no mute option =/
NATO_Duke @ Apr 15th 2008 4:18PM
I know I can mute them, but the point is that they make it far less fun as a whole.
Is Not Null @ Apr 15th 2008 1:40PM
Nope.
Mike @ Apr 15th 2008 1:40PM
Same here. With the new babies in the house and GTA IV around the corner I see no need to have a new location to get yelled at by a 12 year old.
gcountach @ Apr 15th 2008 1:40PM
Nope. Why is there not a nice little poll asking this?
Philip (Fernando Rocker Defence Force) @ Apr 15th 2008 9:57PM
Because Justin is to lazy to make one.
Andre @ Apr 15th 2008 1:40PM
Hell yes, bought them first thing this morning. I don't much care about the price, new maps for a game I play daily is wonderful news.
whistlepig @ Apr 15th 2008 1:43PM
nope
ogvor @ Apr 15th 2008 1:45PM
I'll get them when they are free in a few months, like I did with the last map pack. I've got to many games to play anyhow.
rdj75 @ Apr 15th 2008 1:45PM
Yes Mike, unfortunately thats me looking up alright.
rdj75 @ Apr 15th 2008 1:47PM
this reply thing really does suck sometimes, this comment was for mike in an earlier post
JonTheSchmidt @ Apr 15th 2008 1:46PM
Well you could go to Circuit City's website and preorder Ninja Gaiden II this week to get the Halo Legendary Map pack for free.
rv @ Apr 15th 2008 1:52PM
Actually, I may just do that. I'm probably gonna buy ninja gaiden anyway.
baby sea tuna @ Apr 15th 2008 1:47PM
I don't even know where my copy of Halo 3 is right now, so no.
dark_inchworm @ Apr 15th 2008 1:48PM
The last map pack looked unsatisfactory, so I held off until it was free. Sure enough, it was a letdown.
THIS map pack caters to my interests, so I will most likely buy it.
seakae @ Apr 15th 2008 1:49PM
*sigh* I kinda have to. I play every Tuesday with a regular group of friends, and the peer pressure is going to do me again. Last map pack was actually bought for me for Festivus.
NATO_Duke @ Apr 15th 2008 2:09PM
Hey, hey, hey...slow down mr popular - you are going to make us all jealous.
Bigfoot @ Apr 15th 2008 1:51PM
No.
Jfk Aok @ Apr 15th 2008 1:51PM
That's a negative. Used 10 bucks to buy Ikaruga instead and it's worth every penny.
Hot$auce_Magik @ Apr 15th 2008 1:53PM
I found out the hard way that you never play the new maps in matchmaking rotation last time. In all reality, I'll probably tell yall I'm going to wait till they're free, then about a month before these new ones go free, I'll be drunk one night and buy them...
gameplayFanBoy @ Apr 15th 2008 2:25PM
Heh I do the same thing all the time, except with iTunes songs. Waking up to a receipt for Jewel's "You were meant for me" is just annoying.
Kurosh Nahavandi @ Apr 15th 2008 1:55PM
nope - waiting till they are free - like I should have waited for the last one but threw my $$ away last time. Not AGAIN!
Markez @ Apr 15th 2008 1:55PM
Nope. Because it'll be free eventually. Because I'll get slaughtered on these maps anyway. Because playing through the campaign put me to sleep and I haven't picked it up successfully since.
Stephen @ Apr 15th 2008 1:56PM
Yup. Didn't buy the Heroic Map Pack so it feels like I'm getting 6 maps, not 3.
riggs @ Apr 15th 2008 1:58PM
good thinking actually.
MasterInsan0 @ Apr 15th 2008 1:58PM
Not gonna happen. However, I would buy a Cortana swimsuit calendar.
Gh3tt0 Child @ Apr 15th 2008 1:59PM
of course not
smith @ Apr 15th 2008 2:00PM
I'd rather just dust off halo 2.
