" I have to wonder why a controller's headset isn't used for them. Is there a technical reason for this, or had it not occurred to the developers to implement an extra bit of realism?"

They did it in Stuntman 2

I was just going to say the old Rainbows.

There is an option in some games to use both the speakers and the headset, maybe that does it, but I don't know if many 360 games do, but most Xbox games did.

I actually don't like to use the headset unless I'm playing multiplayer. Am I alone in that thinking?

Thanks X3F Gods!

KrasnyTova, I'll have to look into Stuntman 2, wonder if it works in the demo I have. Thanks for that heads-up.

I'm pretty sure that CoD4 regularly tops Halo 3 on the top games played list because the list is based on unique users. I think that there are a lot of people who play CoD4 a reasonable amount, whereas there are fewer Halo 3 players, but they play Halo 3 for much longer periods than CoD4 players play their game. It seems to me as a casual observance that Halo 3 players are just generally more obsessed with their game and play it for longer periods. I think if the list were based on hours played per week, Halo 3 would likely win.

The Halo 3 list is based on the last 24 hours, whereas the CoD4 list is up to the minute (probably up to the last 10 minutes, but you get the idea).

It is unique users, which is why Major Nelson always says the info is based on UU's.

Halo 3 just seems like a lot because it's always the same people playing it.

CB has it right. H3 may always have 200,000 players but it is mostly the same 200,000. COD4 may only have 100,000 at any one time but the turnover is higher. Noobs feel more comfortable trying COD4. Even noobs can get a few kills in COD4. It is easy to go a few rounds in H3 and not get a single frag when you first start.

The HORI stick is aiight. I have it, I use it, it works, but I'm not enamored with it. I wish there were more options. It's perfect for Virtua Fighter, not so perfect for Street Fighter.

Thanks for answering my question.
If I'm not mistaken, Virtua Fighter is more of a bottom masher like dead or alive. Whereas, Street Fighters will need a more responsive analog control to pull off combos.
Guess I'll just have to wait for Street Fighter HD remix to come out first.

Virtua Fighter moves are more tap-tap on the stick. Forward Forward Punch or Back Forward Kick. Street Fighter is all about smooth dragon punch motions and fire ball motions. Quarter circles and half circles and 360's. The stick is very "clicky". It literally makes a clicking noise each time it goes from down, to down forward to forward. So it's a little tricky pulling off smooth Street Fighter motions. Totally doable, and you get the hang of it after a while, but it just feels a little off. Where as with DOA and Virtua Fighter you feel like the stick was designed perfectly for those games.

Pretty much what I suspected.

If you aren't afraid to get your hands dirty you can fix the dpad yourself and it will work perfectly, the difference it makes is really amazing.

It is easiest to do with a wired controller if you don't have any torx drivers.

Thanks for the awesome ASK X3F guys!

Also nice to know Mass Effect is (hopefully still) coming out as a trilogy all on the 360. That's excellent!

Just make your own 360 joystiq, it isn't hard. There you just solder the ground and signals on the 360 pad to some arcade buttons and a joystick then mount them in a case and you have your own retro arcade top. All you need is a wired 360 controller, buttons/joystick, wires, soldering iron and enough dexterity to use the iron and scrap off the black glue on the controller without damaging the copper.

Also you can find instructions online on how to mod that shitty DOA/Virtua Fighter stick with sanwa gear if you feel like doing more work than you should.

There is a setting for that in h3 if you go to voice communication. And on COD4 i believe there is one also.

What incredible flaw of logic causes you to think that the string "ask [at] xbox360fanboy [dot] com" is any harder to programatically identify than "EDITED"

You've replaced the @ with an [at] and the . with a [dot]... a procedure that is so common that for anyone to think people writing spam bots haven't implemented a regular expression to pick it up is mind boggling!

It might be the fact that the only addresses we have that get spam are the ones that have had the plain email address listed on the website.

Logical or not, Ask X3F hardly gets any spam at all and I'd like to keep it that way thank you very much.

Some thoughts on the first two questions:

Halo 3 probably counts all of the "guest" players on one gamertag account, amounting to many more actual players. They probably only count actual gold accounts for the top ten totals. So COD4 squeaks by, in this case with less actual players.

I have the Hori fighting stick that came out when VF5 did, and it works great for fighting games as well as many Arcade titles. I bet it will be re-released when Soul Caliber IV comes out in July, and then re-released again with Street Fighter IV. Patience might reward you with a cooler looking stick.

Thanks,
But I have very little patience.
I'm waiting for HD REMIX
On a separate note, I already have a very cool looking stick.
And no, you can't play with my very cool looking stick.

I have a question and I feel like an idiot for asking it, hopefully one of you guys out there can give me a quick response:

Where the eff do I log in to x3f? Is there a link or button somewhere i'm missing that i can get in and adjust my profile (and maybe even change my pw from some random sting of characters to something more memorable)?! HELP!
