It's official: Wii Fit priced at $90
No big surprises here – Gamestop already let the pricing details slip out from under Nintendo's iron grip – but just as impressions of the game slash exercise peripheral are being published all over the web, the Big N has made it all official. Wii Fit (and the Wii Balance Board of course) will be released on May 19th for a suggested retail price of $89.99.
But if you're not content with just a game and balance board peripheral and you happen to reside in or around the island of Manhattan, Nintendo has a special treat for you.The first 1000 people to drop a $5 pre-order for the gear at New York City's Nintendo Word Store from April 18 - 20 will be rewarded with a Wii Fit t-shirt featuring the likeness of game designer (and weight watcher) Mr. Shigeru Miyamoto. We're really hoping he's rocking the Richard Simmons short shorts, tank top combo.

Its Offcial, too f'ing expensive for a hunk of plastic you stand on
Fox318 @ Apr 15th 2008 10:25AM
I agree. What a rip off. It should be $60 the software for the Wii fit probably took pennies to make in comparison for other games Nintendo sells for $50.
And the sad thing is it will still sell a ton.
Shagittarius @ Apr 15th 2008 11:14AM
It probably won't help you lose weight but it will definately lighten your wallet.
JakubK666 (Ninja Defence Force) @ Apr 15th 2008 11:18AM
In before Fernando saying this is reasonable.
Raikage (LDF CRAB BATTLE!!!) @ Apr 15th 2008 12:03PM
Being expensive isn't my problem, buying it in the first place is.
WARNING If any of you Joystiqrz buy this, I will disown you, please do not support Nintendo in doing this crap.
I don't even think Fernando defends this... that means stay away.
upz @ Apr 15th 2008 12:23PM
Say hello to the new Apple.
"We charge what we want, because we know you'll buy it anyway!"
Obie @ Apr 15th 2008 12:56PM
$89.99 is not too bad, and how much you wanna bet that some folks that consider it a "rip-off" are the same bozos that bought the $140 cat helmet edition of Halo 3?
Value is beauty....all in the eye of the beholder.
zero2dash @ Apr 15th 2008 1:17PM

Well then in that case - "Say hello...to iBoard."

Calling it a hunk of plastic is very ignorant. A lot of time goes into the production of something like that, it's not just plastic that you stand on. Read the Wii Fit Iwata Asks at Wii.com, gather a knowledge for how it was developed, what it actually does, and then make a comment.
Please, for your own sake.
Fox318 @ Apr 15th 2008 6:28PM
@velocitystrike
You're right!
I should be calling it a useless piece of plastic.
Baba @ Apr 15th 2008 10:21AM
How long did it take them to lower the price of Virtual Boy?
PojoMofo @ Apr 15th 2008 10:30AM
about as long as it took them to develop the N64 disk drive

Tisk tisk, that should have read...
It's official: Wii Fit *overpriced at $90
;)
tmacairjordan87 @ Apr 15th 2008 10:29AM
That's $90 too much when I can run outside and work out for free
Danny @ Apr 15th 2008 10:33AM
Are you kidding me? The RRP of Wii fit in the UK is £70, or $140. Why must we always be continually ripped off?
Synner @ Apr 15th 2008 11:00AM
Are you paid in US dollars? Cause I mean, here in Italy the Italian workers get paid Euro and then get to come on base to purchase things in dollars, so I can see the frustration, but if you are paid in pounds, and the game is sold in pounds, how are you getting ripped off, i mean unless you make significantly less money?
When I was in England, our bus Driver was making 12 Pounds an hour, and Mcdonalds was 6-7 pounds for a value meal, so it seems to me that the prices are relative if you aren't trying number magic.
haritori @ Apr 15th 2008 11:13AM
@ Synner,
thats pretty high paid bus driver the average Wage in the UK is £13,000 per annum or £6.77 per hour, now before you state we get free healthcare etc we pay 21% Tax on that figure and 4% National Insurance making the avaerage wage £5.08 per hour net
In the UK the cost of Living is Higher, The Cost of Electronics in Europe Generally is Higher,
So do americans get pay $10.00 per hour on average? and if they do do they pay $10.00 for an extra value meal, and if they do then its around the same and no one get s ripped off but i suspect here in UK `We Get Ripped Off` Hence RIP OFF BRITAIN!
Italians commenting on the state of economics in UK vs US is laughable!
Synner @ Apr 15th 2008 11:45AM
Um, I'm an American dude.
I am honestly asking, because I've been around the world and usually try to figure these things out, and video games is one of the things I use.
for instance, here in Italy, Games are around 60 euro. Mcdonalds are around 6-7 euro.
In US the games re $60, and Mcdonalds is $6-7.
I am having trouble putting across what I am trying to say I guess.
In the US $10 is like a really crappy wage unless you are a highschool student or something.
I pay 1400 euro for my house rent which ends up being about $2300, but I'm paid in Dollars, so to me it seems expensive. when I go to the store, some vegetables and stuff are a couple euro, it seems to me to be about what i'd pay in dollars in the US.
I'm just asking if games are priced at the same as $60 worth of stuff in the states would be?
Synner @ Apr 15th 2008 11:47AM
Oh, and The tax in us is relative to how much you make, that's why politicians can do the class war thing so well.
I couldn't tell you what I actually pay in taxes because our tax code is purposefully byzantine to confuse and screw people.
Danny @ Apr 15th 2008 7:43PM
Well, if $10 per hour is pretty crappy, then $60 seems about right for a game. I earn an equally crappy £5 per hour, which turns out to be $10 on the echange rate. But I pay £40-50 per game. So it's 6 hours' work in the US, and up to 10 hours' work in the UK, to buy one game.
Benny @ Apr 15th 2008 4:03PM
McDonalds costing £6-7? Are you having the McCaviar?
A value meal is anything from £3.29 to £3.79.
Curmeo @ Apr 15th 2008 10:32AM
Wii Shit is not worth the $90 for a bunch of shallow minigames. here's an idea: if people really want to lose weight, spend the $90 on a gym membership or a tennis racquet. shame on you Nintendonald's for treating obese people like a bunch of Swiss cows.
Synner @ Apr 15th 2008 10:57AM
Yeah, as opposed to a bunch of idiots like sony does. That's the way to be first in this gen-- oh wait.
I love the Nintendonalds, Don't forget that means Sony is selling the PSKFC since it's 5th in sales.
Curmeo @ Apr 15th 2008 11:13AM
to Synner:
first off, ive been meaning to tell you that your nick and your avator make you look like a fucking retard. i bet you're an A-grade pussy in real life. seriously, get rid of the machine gun, you're reminding me of the Virginia Tech killer.
second, PS3 is the BMW 7 Series of this gen. its the expensive steak you get at a 7-star hotel. its the Nobel-prize winning supermodel with brains and beauty.
finally, Nintendonald's is the plague of this industry as McDonald's is the plague of the food industry. overcharging on mediocrity has become the new Nintendonald's DNA.
Christopher Grant @ Apr 15th 2008 11:30AM
You just earned yourself a (from reading through your history, long overdue) ban.

WiiSports Machine...Fernandos in disguise PSN: Killjebus @ Apr 15th 2008 11:51AM
I did not think he was mean or threatening or malicious with his posts. Yes they were VERY biased towards Sony and against Nintendo, but I do not understand the big deal with banning him. If you do not like what he has to say....how about not reading it.
I do not like alot of the things Fernandos says, but I will never ask for a ban on him or anyone. Even when he threatened a couple of other posters. Geez people, they are just WORDS.
But it is not my blog so who am I to say what should or should not be done.
Just my 2 cents...thats all.
I liked Curmeo to Matt, outlandish sure, but funny sometimes. I know some of you hate me and wish for my banning but all I can say is why? I know that I can be a bit to sarcastic sometimes but really guys, I come here for two things...news and entertainment with the comments on Joystiq posts. It makes the workday go by so much faster. In my opinion, having "rabid" fanboy rants on certain posts makes for a much more interesting experience.
PojoMofo @ Apr 15th 2008 11:53AM
I will miss his fanboyism for all of .1241 milliseconds.
Curtis the Claw:XBL - supapaypamawio @ Apr 15th 2008 11:55AM
You really don't think he should have been banned? Did you read his comment? Sure I don't agree with anything he, you, or fernando say a lot of the time but that doesn't matter, it's about video games. His post was totally crazy and had nothing to do with video games.
JakubK666 (Ninja Defence Force) @ Apr 15th 2008 11:57AM

Even if you post it 2wice it does not make it come true.
Dude, what comments of Fernandos HAVE you read? Most of the time he insults me or other pro-Sony posters to the point of actual physical threats.
He routinely uses colorful language in his posts directed at me or some other Sony supporter.
Like I said, it does not bother me no matter what Fernandos says....but c'mon brother
DONT KID YOURSELF, Fernandos is the BIGGEST name caller on this blog.

I actually have no problem WITH ANYONE on here. The "FINALLY Bravo" comment to Chris G was just because I really didnt think they used the banhammer up in here. Like I said in a post before, your comments make me laugh and I enjoy reading them. "Nintendonalds" that shizz right there is classic man. And about synner, well Ive never had any run-ins with him...YET lol so I dont really care.
Synner @ Apr 15th 2008 12:59PM
you deserve every one of them.
I really only get pissy about fanboys, greenpeace and peta.
But really; if someone posts the following typical scenarios:
"when you add all the crap you have to buy with yada yada"
"2 gamecubes duct-taped"
"RROD"
"Future game that is delayed 500 times will crush system X"
Etc, they are an idiot, tool, d-bag, etc.
Curmoe, Godisamyth, and fernando all post the same crap over and over, in topics they come right out and SAY they have no interest in, and there post is usually so off-topic, is my calling out what idiots they are really so horrible?
Besides, I love you guys.... no really.
And Curmeo. for about the 500th time.
I love my AK, Hence it is my avatar, sorry, I don't get orgasmic over one of the systems, or master chief, or anime, or any of the other thousand retarded assed avatars out here, but I wasn't aware I had to submit my choice for your approval.
