We understand that until the game of football evolves (perhaps with the addition of mutants), it's going to be hard for EA to find new facets to add in to Madden. So we're not mad at them for the inclusion of User-Controlled Celebrations to the '09 edition of the game. Now, when you want to celebrate reaching the end zone, you need only press a button and the party of one will begin. Also, players who are known for their celebrations will have them modeled in the game.
Though we can't help but be saddened that the feature comes too late for us to feel the rush of having the Ickey Shuffle at our fingertips, we can't wait to see how many they cook up for Chad Johnson, who once built a working spacecraft on the field and filled it with nuclear weapons before flying it into and destroying the moon to mark his achievement. The craziest part? He had just gotten a first down.

Didn't the Wii version of Madden from last year include at least a rudimentary inclusion of this feature? I can't see how this feature would be exceptionally fun on any other system, but I could be wrong. Madden seems to be scraping the barrel for features.

Wow, truly EA is the most innovative game company on earth. And to think, people thought Madden would get stale if EA was the only one with an NFL license.

Once the No Fun League hears about this, the feature will suddenly vanish and nothing will ever be spoken of again.

copy & paste from my X3F comment:
Lulz @ this "new" feature. I was forcing my players to do the cabbagepatch or spike the ball in Madden 95 for SNES. Glad to see this "new" feature in Madden 2009. Who do I need to throw my $60 at to get this wonderful innovation!?

I'm convinced that the MADDEN CHALLENGE Competition is the only reason this series stays relevant to gamers... and yes, it's a damn shame that the NFL let them stalemate videogame simulation of professional football with these piss-poor updates and features.
Oh well. There's always VC Tecmo Bowl. :\

So long as EA keeps cutting other features, they'll have long years ahead of them where they can add new features.

EA's business model on sports games is becoming more clear. Every time there is a new generation of console, they will release a stripped down version of Madden (or other sports game). Year by year, they will slowly add a couple of features that were already present in the previous generation's game. When a new generation comes out, rinse and repeat.

If they don't get Chad Johnson's victory stuff down, I will be forever swear off the game and destroy all copies that fall into my sight.

It's funny to see everyone complain about Madden but then it goes out and sells Millions of copies. I've be the first to admit that Madden has become sort of bland, but last year I thought they did a great job (besides the whole 30 frames per second thing). But be realistic guys, there is no sports game that adds brand new features and gameplay updates and all that other crap every year. Even my favorite basketball game (NBA 2K8) has been almost the same since its days on the PS2. Everyone just gives Madden crap because it’s made by EA and it sells like hot cakes. But if anyone has been paying attention, they've added a butt load of feature last year and hopefully again this year. I still prefer college football over Madden any day, but Madden is always a fun addition. And finally, what other game with this kind of appeal has a one year development cycle...Mario doesn't count.
New Madden 08 features
Weapons Icons
Hit Stick 2.0
New PlayerAnimations (i.e. Mid Air collisions and gang tackling)
New Superstar Modes
New Player Attributes
Trophy Room
Gameplay Update (i.e. blocking schemes…even though they still suck)

I just wish that "sports-fans" would figure out that every year its the same game. All that really needs to be done is a game update that would amount to 1 person entering the data in about 2 hours to write a 5kb file to update the roster file.
