Nintendo denies new DS model, we smile patronizingly
Though it often seems that the internet has the attention span of a Pixie-Stix-maddened toddler at a Pokemon zoo, it makes up for it with a long memory. Take, for instance, yesterday's denial from Nintendo of a new DS model rumored to be on the horizon last week. Oh, Nintendo? Oh really?Internet, we direct your attention to January 25, 2006 when a Big N spokesperson denied having any knowledge of a new DS one day before announcing the DS Lite. So, Nintendo, we hope you'll forgive us if we're more inclined to just wait for E3 than to believe the lie factory you call a mouth.
...That was a little harsh, wasn't it? Sorry, we just really want to buy the DS again.

Heh... all the companies deny pretty much any news they didn't want out yet. Don't want to interrupt the sales of their money printing model.
LaughingTarget @ Apr 16th 2008 5:29PM
They really should be more passive about it. Denial just fuels the truth. If they just swish their hand and say, "Whatever, believe what you will," I'd be more likely to take their word for it.

I found Kaplan kind of sexy. Come on, pretend like you didn't!
samfish @ Apr 17th 2008 12:01AM
Lie to be Perrin. Lie to me like you do your mother, you sexy, sexy mature woman, you!
Mr Khan @ Apr 16th 2008 5:08PM
Yes, but iirc, it was a Nintendo Europe person who made that hilarious statement, and they've always seemed to be out of the loop compared to NoA
Nintendo Japan made this denial, and their word is to be taken as doctrine, 9 times out of ten

ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Apr 16th 2008 6:24PM
Kaplan was NoA, right?
Just checkin.
Shadow El @ Apr 16th 2008 7:04PM
Kaplan was more out of the loop than NoE. >_> I hated her.
Cesaria (SSBB: 3136-6466-5083) @ Apr 16th 2008 11:42PM
I meant for my sexy Kaplan comment to be a reply to this. I use my Wii for my main internet source and mistakes tend to happen. Either way, I'd show her my final smash.
bender @ Apr 16th 2008 5:11PM
I don't see why they would release a new model, I mean the DS Lite still sells enormously well, past 70 million last I checked. But anything to add to their moutntain of cash I guess.
ssuk @ Apr 17th 2008 4:27AM
There was no real reason to release the GBMicro, yet they did...
Mike @ Apr 16th 2008 5:15PM
If memory serves me; Nintendo once denied that the DS Lite existed and then a week later they announced it. Seems like something strange is afoot at the Circle K.
Donald @ Apr 16th 2008 5:24PM
If memeory serves me right they mentioned that in the article.
Mike @ Apr 16th 2008 5:25PM

Whoa there – slow down, boys...Joystiq has articles?
Anticrawl @ Apr 16th 2008 6:23PM
I always thought Joystiq news consisted of one-liners, I didn't know they wrote articles. This throws my entire perception of reality into question. Is there anything to believe in anymore? *weeps while closing Joystiq RSS feed on homepage*
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Apr 16th 2008 11:45PM
Joystiq doesn't only have LOLcats and Miyamoto: there's of course Samfish's avatar.

lets not consue this newcomer mike with me, the original mike. I dont post comments like an idiot without first reading the articles.

Thumbs up for "lie factory."
Not because of the Nintendo bashing, it's just a funny thing to say. I'm going to go play some games on my DS Phat now.
Mr Khan @ Apr 16th 2008 5:29PM
I never upgraded to the Lite, either
Its worse for lugging around, but i don't do that much with my handhelds, strangely enough, and i feel its better for actually playing, feels more comfortable
SoulBlade @ Apr 16th 2008 5:32PM
I too never jumped to the lite (or slim on the PSP). If they do have this new model coming out and the price is right, I might bite.
Shadow El @ Apr 16th 2008 7:06PM
I never got the Lite, but my DS is worn so hard (nearly beyond repair) since I got it on launch day, I'll probably be getting this fancy new model. Which will HARNESS THE POWER OF THE SUN. :O
Geist @ Apr 16th 2008 9:34PM
Oh it's all about the Phat. Mine is dinged to hell, with scratches here and there, but instead of looking dingy and bad like they would on the Lite, the damage adds character. It's like a worn, leather-bound book as opposed to a worn, faded (but once shiny and glossy) hardcover. One just exudes cool, the other just looks old.
RobLink (MKWii code : 0989 1866 6646) @ Apr 16th 2008 5:23PM
And the worst part? I know that I'll buy it launch day.
Drew @ Apr 16th 2008 6:20PM
Hamza: Please, if you're going to disparage someone's sexual orientation, use proper spelling.
Yeah, I'll eventually buy the new one. I bought the special edition Mario Kart DS Phat, the original DS Phat and a DS Lite. So yeah, I'll probably bite on a new one. I'm a fanboy, I'll admit it. But minus all the 1337 speak, gay bashing, bad spelling and other console hating.
So I guess I'm not a fanboy?
Lupo @ Apr 16th 2008 9:47PM
so true, as a fan of nintendo i must say that were just a step above apple fanboys merely because we dont spend as much
RobLink (MKWii code : 0989 1866 6646) @ Apr 17th 2008 1:17PM
@Hamza. I'll buy it for the same reason that I picked up the Lite. Because it was worth it. For me (important part, that one).
I passed my DS phat onto my sister, then my buddy, and it's now with my girlfriend. I'm guessing I'd do the same with my lite if they release another one.
As far as my sexual orientation goes, I'm straight. You?
scott willis @ Apr 16th 2008 5:29PM
im in the market for a new DS , if they go and launch a new version this year after denying it , ill be less than happy .
leGUIGUI @ Apr 16th 2008 5:33PM
OK, Just to inform you that this "No DS Lite" news was coming From Nintendo of Europe, who is the least informed suborganisation of Nintendo. The rules is: "trust no news coming from Nintendo of Europe unles it's a game date release schedule". Seriously, Nintendo of Europe is just a big retailer, no more. They basically know no shit about what's going on in Nintendo's development.
PojoMofo @ Apr 16th 2008 5:36PM
That picture is exactly how my cat looks at our Vietnamese neighbors, wonder why that is?
Noshino @ Apr 16th 2008 5:40PM
because your cat can't hear them...?
PojoMofo @ Apr 16th 2008 5:44PM
No, its only when the neighbors have forks in there had and empty dinnerplates? Weird huh?
el serpiente @ Apr 16th 2008 9:18PM

Here's an alternative, especially for emulations.

I really love the Lite's Touch Screen capability and 'quick' power up/wake from sleep capability, on the other hand, I really like the processing power and games that are coming out on the PSP (with its beautiful screen)
Benny @ Apr 16th 2008 5:48PM
So did they deny a system revision, or a DS2?
ComradeTrotskii @ Apr 16th 2008 10:23PM
Kinda what I was wondering. I'm expecting a whole new system (well, an upgraded DS fully backwards compatible) to be announced rather than a cosmetic revision to the current system.
Chase @ Apr 16th 2008 6:06PM
Denial ain't just a river in Egypt.
Hamza @ Apr 16th 2008 6:12PM

+1 for quote of th day
jayeffaar @ Apr 16th 2008 6:41PM
When has it become ok for big companies to straight out lie about stuff? We see it every day from pretty much all of them, and somehow, we don't hold them responsible for it. It's just business as usual to have your PR people tell lie after lie and they don't lose our confidence over it.
Now if they would just decline to comment about all rumours, that would be their prerogative (and to be fair, a lot of them do just that), but we've come to the point where we can't trust anything they say because we know it doesn't mean anything.
MasterInsan0 @ Apr 16th 2008 6:56PM
I don't know about you, but any time someone's sole purpose in existence is to get my money out of my wallet and into their hands, I'm less than trusting.
So no, it doesn't surprise me that companies continually lie to consumers--if they think it'll earn them more $$, that's what they're going to do. A better question is, "Why is it suddenly striking you that billion dollar corporations lie a lot?"
DeshayZilla @ Apr 16th 2008 11:08PM
I hope it's not another gimmick like the Wii was. I'm getting tired of spending money on crap.
Superstar90 @ Apr 16th 2008 11:18PM
Maybe you should stop then, they really don't need your money.
Jacksons @ Apr 16th 2008 11:48PM
There's not enough they could change/fix on the DS Lite to make me interested in buying another.
BrokenMonkey @ Apr 17th 2008 11:08AM
If it's leaps and bounds better than the DS Lite I might consider getting it, but that's only because I have a DS Phat and I'd like to rub it in all the faces of my Lite-toting friends.
