If you're not content to pick up Gran Turismo 5 Prologue in stores on a fancy Blu-ray disc, Sony has uploaded the game on their shiny new PlayStation Network store. The download will set your hard drive back at least 1.9 GB and your wallet $40 (same price as retail).
While not initially available on the PSN version, you can download the intro and ending films at your leisure to view (the latter unlocked only after beating the game, natch). However, a documentary on the series, "Beyond the Apex," appears to be exclusive to the Blu-ray version for the moment.

My feeling exactly. To each their own I guess. I could never get into the GT series. I'm more of a fan of unrealistic racers that take an arcade like approach. (Burnout)
Its a huge game for the ps3 and I'm sure it will do great without me.

It's surely well done, of course. Those models really look impressive.

Phranc...
I, like yourself, love a crazy ass arcade racer....their just adrenalin inducing. I've been a huge fan of the Burnout series till recently and I've always loved a good Sega racer. And yeah, if simulation is not your cup of tea, then don't bother with GT5 because it can be HARD.
It's a different flavor of racing. It's more sophisticated and definitely more challenging. That's what I love about it, the challenge wrapped up in this beautiful eye candy world. Sick!

I am trying as hard as I can not to buy this, it looks so good though! Still I'm going to wait till either it has a price drop or till the actual game comes out. Because if GT5 has 30 tracks and 350 cars (which would be a low amount in my opinion, but that's just my opinion so don't freak out) that is 5 times the content of GT5P for only $20 more. Also, since this game will have absolutely no value after the full game comes out they should give you a discount off the full game...All I ask is like a $10 discount off the full game and I would buy this right now.

Wow... PS3 fanboys are pretty hostile lately... Why, did you 3 just get ripped off with this 40 dollar demo?

LOL...YES!!!
This game is friggin sweeeeeeet!!!
Any car lover is going to just love GT5P.
By the way, for audiophiles, check out the sound section in the options and switch it to small or large home theater. The soundtrack switches to this bassier crisp tune.
The car models are just insane...and beautiful. The graphics are photo realistic. Just amazing.
I love you Polyphony.

Yeah, definitely props to Joystiq/Ross Miller for finally putting down some ink.
For car nuts like me, Gran Turismo is the Halo of racing games. Bar none.

No, many car lovers (like me) prefer driving real cars over another boring "simulation" that has none of the sensation of driving. $40 will buy a night of go karting or the entry fee for a day of autocross, which is much more worth it in my opinion.

Yeah, why pay $60 for Mario Kart, when you can buy some bananas, eat them and save the peels, kill some turtles, scoop out their guts, and chuck them at your friend's tricycle?

Beyond the Apex is online so you can watch it anytime you want. I have the demo that i downloaded off the Japan store last year. The game looks amazing I just can't drive for crap. I always run off the road no matter how hard i try. But it does feel good with rumble.

This game is SICK! and still just a 'demo' but worth the price. I played it at a friend's place and would've went out and bought a PS3 that night if it wasn't for GTA4 coming out in a couple weeks. I had to remind myself that once I get my hands on GTA4, I won't be playing anything else.
How come Sony doesn't release a PS3 + GT5 w/ rumble bundle similar to PS2 days? That would really push units and I would've grabbed one for sure, even w/ GTA4 on the way. Another missed opportunity.

I would assume they'd do it for the full version, but this "game" is for the hardcore to wet their beak while they finish up the full version. And thanks for offering an opinion after you actually played the thing...

Wow! How did they fit a 50gb blu-ray into a 1.9gb download...

Hey idiot, who said it was 50GB? there are only 6 tracks, not 30, and 70 cars not 700.
The full game(2009) will be Blu-ray material, this however is not. The videos have been stripped, and they get streamed, there is limited soundtracks..

Cool, now explain warhawk.
My point is that the whole games on blu-ray thing is over blown, WAY overblown. Not saying their are no advantages, but they are marginal at this point in time. Now in 5 years, different story.

Sorry but I never thought spending even $1 on a demo was a good idea so I will have to pass on this. Looks kinda boring anyway.

That's funny cause looking at my post history I can't see any that rips Sony. You have me confused for someone else, I'm one of the guys who rips the Wii.
But I'm sorry I don't like to waste money on demos. Not a shot against Sony, I just don't buy demos.

Frank, let them have their cheap shots. In fact, pity them, for they will be playing the same old Mario Kart they've been playing for the last decade and paying for it yet again.

And you'll be playing the same old GT game with the same controller and no damage since the ps1 days. See it goes both ways.

Now I love ripping nintendo first party games as much as anyone but the GT series hasn't really been a staple of innovation either.
But just because it's in 1080p doesn't mean it's new and fresh el serpiente
