Considering that Spider-Man 3 sold roughly one hojillion copies despite its dubious quality, it's not a huge surprise that Activision wouldn't want to wait for Spider-Man 4 to hit theaters before its next game. First we had the brawling-centric Spider-Man: Friend or Foe and soon, according to Gamervision we'll be playing Spider-Man: Web of Shadows.
GV says the info comes from an insider at GameStop, which will reportedly be putting marketing materials up for the game this week. Now, what, exactly is Spider-Man: Web of Shadows? We have no clue. We've heard rumors of a Spidey game subtitled "Red Vs. Black," and if this is that same project we can likely expect some symbiote action and maybe even a visit from Venom. Again though, that's pure conjecture. But it sounds like we might be hearing something more concrete very soon.

I've heard it wasn't really Raimi's fault. More like the producers forced him to include Venom cause they knew fully well that more people would watch the movie.
Hopefully they get it right for Sp4.

Nigeria, do you mean the Spider-Man cartoon from years ago or the new "Spectacular Spider-Man" that just started a month or so ago?

Come on, Spiderman 3 may have been the worst, but I'm baffled by how rabidly people hate that film. Was it really that bad? Uneven and cluttered at times? Yes, but it was a fun film. And it includes the second best moment (think rain for the first) in the whole series, Harry's reply to how the pie was: "So good."

Agreed. Sp3 wasn't that bad of a movie. Yeah compare to the awesomeness of SP2, Spiderman 3 was a mess. But by it self, it wasn't that bad.

I have a feeling that whatever it is, it's going to suck but sell like hot cakes.

Thus far, Spidey 2 (for all its flaws) has been my favorite iteration of the games, with a steep decline after that. Did not like Ultimate Spider-Man, mostly because of the redesign of the swinging (why did they have to dumb down a nearly perfect system?) and for the agonizing use of chase missions. I admit to never playing Spidey 3 because of all the truly awful warnings I heard about it. And Friend or Foe looked so rancid that I could actually smell the preview videos through my monitor. And friends, the smell was not good.
So the trend for Activision's Spider-man games has not been very promising for me. Still, I'll keep my eyes peeled. Because it IS Spider-man, after all... and when Spider-man is done right, he is sublime.

S:FoF was geared more towards kids. My sons, 7 & 5, love playing it, and it's something I can play with them besides Lego Star Wars. It really wasn't meant to compete the the movie games.

Fair enough. I wasn't in the target market for Friend or Foe. I'm hoping they don't go for the younger crowd with this one, AND that they get it right.
And to win the lottery, while I'm wishing.

You're absolutely right about Ultimate Spiderman though, about the swinging. Spiderman 2 was a pretty stellar game, it had it's flaws but was ridiculously fun to just swing around the city and feel badass as Spiderman.
Ultimate Spiderman had the unique art style, which I enjoyed but I hated what happened to the swinging formula. Eventually you get used to it, but it's still not nearly as good as Spiderman 2.

Yeah, Spiderman 2 was the best as far as the swinging mechanics go. I just have to echo the statement. Spiderman 3's system wasn't as good as Spiderman 2's.

Web of Shadows sounds like a potential Nickleback album. Or the next Hannah Montana hit. Apply where ever.

Meh. Spiderman 3 wasn't that bad. Sure it could have been better (alot better) but I didn't outright hate it. Besides it wasn't even the worst movie of the summer. That honor goes to Michael Bay's generic action film guest starring the Transformers.

I'm guessing that Red vs Black wont be Spidey vs Venom, but rather Carnage vs Venom

Anything with Venom or Carnage is crap. They're the most overrated villains in Spider-Man's rogue's gallery. I really wish they'd skipped Venom entirely, and just given us Sandman alone, or Electro, Shocker, Rhino, Vulture, Mysterio, Kraven, or any of the other several dozen villains that aren't just "Evil Twin Spider-Man."
