Space shooter 'PowerUp Forever' coming to XBLA, PSN this Summer [Update]
Namco Bandai has promised "high-octane, shooting action" -- which we can all agree is the best kind of shooting action -- in this Summer's release of Infinitum PowerUp Forever for Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network. The top-down shooter hopes to stand out in the bustling crowd thanks to its "endless spatial battlefield." As you destroy enemies and absorb their energy, your ship increases in size and power, slowly turning you into an interstellar Godzilla of sorts.
However, as previous enemies shrink, bigger threats "that were previously too large to see" will take their place. So ... Katamari Damacy with spaceships, then?
(Note: Another Namco Bandai press release we received described this same game, but labeled it "PowerUp Forever." We've asked the publisher to clear up the confusion -- and pleaded with it to stick with "Infinitum.")
(Update: Well, that didn't work. PowerUp Forever it is.)

Yes..please stick with Infinitum and not powerup forever.
Game looks cool. top down shooters are great. Looking forward to the remake of 1942!

Man, I love shooters. Old school type. There is a complete lack of shooters on the PS3. Sucks!
Capcom, when are you going to update 1941? Go HD on that game and release it as a DLC. Please!

Isn't it enough that we already have:
- Geometry Wars
- Asteroids Deluxe
- Omega Five
- Undertow
- Every Extend Extra Extreme
- Space Giraffe
- Jetpac Refueled
- Mutant Storm Reloaded
- Super Stardust HD
- Blast Factor
- Rocketmen
- Everyday Shooter
Do we really need another dual-analog-stick shooter?

Thats pale in comparison to a fps list.

yes, we already have enough of these types of shooters at the moment. Perhaps Namco/Bandi could use their development resources to first FIX Mr. Driller Online.

Actually, the game is more like the tide pool phase of Spore (kill enemies, grow, enemies in the background become new enemies...)

At least it's on PSN as well. Even though I don't have a PS3 I always feel bad that they don't have the incredible shooters that XBLA has.

Described as "Katamari Damacy in space".. I think this is much more akin to flOw in space.
Dustin @ Apr 17th 2008 10:21AM
I would agree that this looks a lot more like flOw than anything, but then again if it does, I suppose that makes flOw a lot like Katamari, which is something I've certainly never thought about before... Hmm..
Anyways, I'd hate to jinx anything by asking if we have enough shooters on the networks, but... don't we? I'd sure like to see some more adventure/platformers on XBLA and PSN. I think there's huge potential for games there. And not just with episodic stuff like Penny Aracade Adventures and Sam and Max, etc.

Developed by Blitz Games in the U.K., methinks. This game was indeed pitched as Powerup Forever quite some time ago.

Actually sounds pretty cool to me. I'm in for $10.

I kind of like the name; its honesty is commendable. Imagine how much time and money could have been saved if "Dynasty Warriors" was called "Mash Button Until Bored" or the new Turok was called "Shoot Dinosaur (Again)".
