Spider-Man: Web of Shadows confirmed for all current platforms

It seems we'll be donning our tight-fitting Spider-Man costumes and matching cavalier attitudes sooner than expected, as we head off to the store to purchase Spider-Man: Web of Shadows. The humiliation better be worth it this time, Activision! Confirming earlier rumors, the publisher has announced (via IGN) that Spidey's next "free-roaming, open-ended" adventure will be hitting the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, Wii, DS, PSP and PC, courtesy of Shaba Games and Treyarch.

Not much is known about the title, but the official website hints that you'll be able to influence the game's "direction and outcome" and choose which characters in the Marvel universe to ally yourself with. The central theme seems to be "control," though as the trailer (embedded after the break) rightly points out, we can't know what it really means ... until we lose it.

I don't know about you guys, but I was seriously looking forward to not getting this game.

I don't know I liked more his comment about his doubtful sexual orientation but this one is not bad.

Looks interesting. Hopefully this is one of the good Spiderman games.

Treyarch = Trash. I predict this will be a brief rental, at best.

ehh Treyarch did a great job with spider 2 , they obv had to rush spider 3 out or something tho :o

From what i recall, Treyarch only sucks when you set them in a head to head contest with Infinity Ward

Few could come out looking good by comparison in that contest

From Spidey's costume, it looks like its going to be based off the comic book. Is Shaba or Treyarch developing the next-gen versions?

Treyarch isnt bad. They made the second Spider-Man game that was on the original playstation. What was it, Enter Electro or something. That was awesome

even Gay-arch couldve been better than that....

Any game that comes out on ALL platforms, is just doomed to suck. Come on. DS and 360/PS3? How can those possibly be the same game?

Well at least for now...thats what I said about Battlefield: Bad Company when it was first announced and now I can't stand the thought of that game...

Better than Friend or Foe...now thats corny. This sounds like it might actually have some depth to it.

Friend or foe sounded like the title for either a bad country song or a Nickleback song.

Web of Shadows sounds more like the title for a cheesy movie, yu-gi-oh card or a especial move for a fighting character.

I would have gone with Spiderman: World Wide Web.

Well it doesn't look bad and it could be good.Spiderman games aren't bad but um I'm not sure how to end this sentence but hell I like them.

Activision should go ahead and put their money on a Marvel Zombies game,hell that would sell 1M easily in month.

Yeah, I'd love to see a Marvel Zombies game...maybe based off the volume where Ash from Army of Darkness shows up.

To be honest I sort of expected more.Ash only made things worst and the ending was weird.

P.S. as of a couple years ago, Mac Tonight was still making occasional promotional appearances at McDonald's stores in central Illinois.

Where's my Ultimate Spider-Man 2? I never read the comics, but that game was the bee's knees. Too bad it was so short.

Generally the Spider-Man games that I have played have sucked real hard. I want to try Spider-Man 3 (360) but I heard (from http://www.expotv.com/videos/reviews/22/193/Spider-Man3/257423) that during the boss battles it's essentially just a button masher. Is that the case, or is there actually skilled involved? I don't want to get a game just to random press buttons during battles, that should be left for games like Street Fighter ;)

Treyarch games are trash. And no, I'm not just comparing their CoDs to Infintiy Ward's. Spiderman 3 was horrible. The game was a button-mash fest and the "free-roaming" element in it was a joke. Their games are also buggy as hell. I wouldn't hold my breath on this one.

Does Spidey have to "finish the fight"?

Why exactly would you want a "free-roaming, open-ended" spiderman? Don't you want dastardly villains, climactic battles, and an epic story arc brought home by Spiderman overcoming his internal failings as a human being?

Open ended just sounds... beige.

Because in the mind of most gamers minds, the terms "free roaming" and "non-linear" have become equated with good games.

I agree with you though. Liner game play is the best way to tell a story. There is a reason that choose your own adventure books don't make it on the NY Times best seller lists.

So, it looks like some kind of symbiote invasion. Maybe a remake of the amazing psone/n64 game?
