"At least Lego Star Wars ended up becoming one shining beacon out of the prequel games"
The Lego Star Wars games are the best thing to come out of the prequels. Period.
rv @ Apr 17th 2008 3:11PM
I thought episode 3 was cool, but seriously, the dude who plays anakin was such a bad actor. Also, there were a lot of plot holes in episode 3. Still, I thought it was kinda cool.
Shmil @ Apr 17th 2008 1:14AM
But they didn't cover __________! That was my favorite star wars game! Some retrospective this is!
Yuccadude @ Apr 17th 2008 2:02AM
I was going to say something to the effect of, "that movie didn't cover Episode III at all", but you with your fill-in-the-blank beat me to it.
Beau @ Apr 17th 2008 1:24AM
Do these retrospective spoil the games? I'm talking about the games which aren't the movies in game format.
DangerMouse @ Apr 17th 2008 2:02AM
Doesn't matter, most of them on this video are crap.
Lone Starr @ Apr 17th 2008 1:27AM
Stop hating on the prequels or the 501st will roast you like they roasted all those silly sorcerers in the Jedi Temple.
Tim The Enchanter @ Apr 17th 2008 11:50AM
Which was another sign of Lucas losing his mind.
I love Star Wars dearly, but I hate most of what it became... or was.. aw crap.
shaoron @ Apr 17th 2008 3:58AM
which unintentionally gave us the cathartic ability to kill Jar Jar Binks over and over and over again.
wow.. so much hate... lol
THE WICKER MAN (BWF) (GT: Dalek Prime) @ Apr 17th 2008 1:53AM
cant wait foe kotor!
Ken Seang @ Apr 17th 2008 2:10AM
Hey I enjoyed pod racer and clones wars on the cube and battle for naboo on n64. Also, the Episode 3 for the DS was not bad for a side scroller gamer.
Squirrel3D @ Apr 17th 2008 2:12AM
What I wanna know is....when are they gonna do one on Super Mario, Sonic, Megaman, Street Fighter, etc etc etc
Pro-Truth League @ Apr 17th 2008 2:19AM
I'll never get the reasoning for propping up the old films so high, and putting the prequels so low.
They're all pretty cheesey lowbrow scifi.
It has to be entirely nostalgia.
They're all intergalactic adventures of furries and people with ugly hair, poor design and poor writing.
Star Trek TNG and DS9, now that's proper space scifi without the camp and furries.
Chase @ Apr 17th 2008 2:47AM
Tribbles.
rip your star trek argument
Honestly though, I dislike Star Trek and Star Wars, but find Star Wars to be more tolerable. Simple as that.
Pro-Truth League @ Apr 17th 2008 3:21AM
TOS Star Trek is god awful.
I'll agree with that.
It's even worse than Star Wars!
TNG Star Trek and DS9 Star Trek are entirely different. Brilliant writing, and DS9 is one of the best use of story arcs ever in western media.
t_m @ Apr 17th 2008 4:30AM
DS9 was a poor rip off of Babylon 5. At least they could have tried to make it less transparent.
TNG was alright, but not as amazing as everyone makes out. Farscape beats them all.
The great thing about the original SW movies was the way they allowed your imagination to fill in the gaps... they hinted at these epic events and ancient histories, and did a really good job suggesting a real, coherent, realistic, yet wierd and fantastical universe.
Of course, we all wanted those gaps filled in.. but we should have been careful what we wished for, as the prequels took all the mystery out, and replaced it with generic, unrealistic (in a SW sense) poorly written fan-fiction.
Pro-Truth League @ Apr 17th 2008 8:10AM
Star Wars + Realistic = ERROR.
Tim The Enchanter @ Apr 17th 2008 11:51AM
Wow. Bantha poodoo.
Tim The Enchanter @ Apr 17th 2008 11:55AM
I like TNG and Farscape, but the original Star Wars were great to me. I agree that some of the mystery was taken out. Mainly replaced with junk. Parts of the prequels were good to me, but nothing like the originals. And some parts in the prequels don't make any sense, if you've read some of the books that came after.
343 Guilty Fart @ Apr 17th 2008 12:35PM
Battlestar Galactica rules them all!
t_m @ Apr 18th 2008 12:32AM
realistic in sci-fi sense.. as i pointed out.
As in a coherent, coordinated universe, and also as in the gritty, real life look of many of the locations and ships. Star trek was always too clean.
Pro-Truth League @ Apr 18th 2008 1:35AM
Star Trek TNG shows a realistic future.
Star Wars shows a space fairy tale.
and Farscape? Farscape isn't realistic at all!
Alexander @ Apr 17th 2008 2:53AM
How come they skipped Shadows of the Empire and the Rouge Squadron series? Hopefully they'll get some recognition before the retrospective concludes.
Any why does the Gametrailers guy have to mispronounce something in every video he does? It's Coruscant; not Coruscent.
Alexander @ Apr 17th 2008 3:10AM
*and
t_m @ Apr 17th 2008 4:18AM
I'm sure it used to be coruscent. SotE and RS weren't based on the prequels.
John Foozmich @ Apr 17th 2008 8:43AM
I'm glad somebody else picked up on him mispronouncing stuff. I know he mispronounced something else in this one, but I can't remember. It wasn't Coruscant though, so he must have mispronounced at least two things wrong this time. In the first video he kept calling the AT-AT walkers simply "at ats" rather than knowing that they are initials and saying "ay-tee ay-tees." I have never once heard anybody refer to them this way, but then again I suppose I don't talk about Star Wars much.
He also says "grind" in every single RPG video he does, as in "you're grinding [exp/money/items/etc]". Every one. I don't know why all this bothers me, but it does.
Brian Fantana @ Apr 17th 2008 3:52AM
That first line of the video sums up Episodes I, II, and III. Fucking terrible.
t_m @ Apr 17th 2008 4:24AM
Wow. What a load of forgettable games. The true genius is in the music, which can still get your heart racing, even after being associated with so much trash.
On the other hand, the few clips of cutscenes from the ones i didn't play make me wonder if maybe they explain some of the unexplained things from the movies... but I really can't be bothered to go and play any of them to see if they explain WHY the jedi were getting weaker, cos I expect the explanations would be worse than anything I could image. (as the prequels were.)
Still, the prequels did have awesome posters. ANd next week is Tie Fighter! Awesome...
Tim The Enchanter @ Apr 17th 2008 11:58AM
There are theories on that. Like how they said the "chosen one would restore balance to the force" meaning too many Jedi using light side, some think. Others think the Emperor was taking too much to himself. Not sure I agree, but whatever.
Tie fighter and rogue squadron games were awesome.
Silvertusk @ Apr 17th 2008 6:36AM
Oh god. Can't wait for Episode IV.
X-Wing and TIE Fighter took up so much of my childhood.
wootman @ Apr 17th 2008 12:18PM
wait, wasn't republic commando supposed ot have a sequel?
DO WANT.
Yuccadude @ Apr 17th 2008 1:03PM
If it doesn't, there are 3 really good books about them by Karen Traviss:

boo @ Apr 17th 2008 5:00PM
I assumed these retrospectives would actually include a majority of star wars games. Where are all the pc titles? Where's star wars galaxies the RTS, and the previous pc rts type star wars games?
these retrospectives are really disappointing, because they don't include half of the games.
t_m @ Apr 18th 2008 12:38AM
er.. cos they haven't got to them yet?
Next week is all the x-wing and tie-fighter games.
I'd imagine the week after that will include Dark Forces and Jedi Knight
I guess at some point they'll have to mention Force Commander too... :-(
Jim. @ Apr 20th 2008 3:58PM
Wait? Didn't Episode 1 hit theaters in May of '99? The beginning of this video is all messed up.
