It looks like Microsoft is putting its massive pile of GTAIV marketing money to good use. The latest advertisement out of the UK does two things very well. One, it introduces gamers to Niko, the game's protagonist. Niko is visible for the entirety of the commercial and it's pretty clear that he is both large and in charge. Two, it showcases the variety of locations and interactions that can be had in Liberty City. Lots of people, interesting architecture, and of course, explosions, serve to highlight just what gamers can expect. Oh, and let's not forget the carjacking. It sits right at the end of the commercial, as if to say "yeah, GTA is back."
So, can we have it now? Because we'd really like to stop talking about it and start playing it.
Does anyone else think its odd that we havent seen any gameplay yet for this?
All these trailers and no gameplay sounds to me like theres nothing much to see in the actual game... Cutscenes always look great and these dont WOW me at all.
Are you kidding? When have we ever seen gameply for GTA games? Just part of rockstar's mystique. We go out blindly and buy thier games and they generally deliver. :) Im sure all we see in the commericals is the in game engine, wow. The crowds in bowling allys, comedy clubs, streets, can't wait to get that wanted level up.
The last Trailer released "Everyone's a Rat" was something like 70% gameplay - you know that 180 degree reverse turn in the car, and that chase around the aeroplane? That was all in game.
Cutscenes in GTA always use the in-game engine anyway. The models aren't supposed to wow you; they are below par for the console like all of the other GTAs visuals were. The sheer size of the game world and the detail on everything is the impressive part. Modeling two or three characters and a handful of generic enemies is easy, doing GTA in scope is as hard as Nikko would be after picking up his first American prostitute.
This was a good ad. it wasn't patronising or over bearing, it was visually and aurally interesting, and most importantly it didn't scream "THIS IS A VIDEO GAME".
Heh, my point about the logo wasn't to say that it was a bad advertisement. I was just pointing out that the series is more and more being associated with the 360. That bodes well for Microsoft, and for my wallet.
I thought the choice of music was great, really sells the ad for me. Niko, the changing scenes, and that music really present an amazing package to the would-be consumer.
It's somewhat strange to admit.. But the most impressive thing to me was Niko's walk. That was a fantastic looking walk. Has loads of character to it. Hopefully the animation quality carries over into all of his other actions as well.
This a really nice advert, great styling and a glimpse of the sweet looking cars, the one at the end reminds me of an aston matin (a good english car) which makes me very happy indeed.
