New WiiWare racer answers the question: What's a SPOGS?

Despite the name, D2C's recently announced WiiWare title SPOGS Racing has nothing to do with Northern English candy. Instead, the game features single-wheeled vehicles plastered afterburners, spoilers and "wacky" faces. Obviously! The title was a dead giveaway!

The fast-action racing game will feature 12 tracks -- including stunt tracks -- and gameplay based on ramming opponents and stealing their SPOGS-enhancing parts. Players can control their SPOGS by tilting the Wii remote or, more likely, using an attached the Classic Controller. The game is also planned for the PC and the PSP, but you all know we're only posting it because it's on the Wii's hip new download service. Plus we like saying it's name. SPOGS. SPOGS!

It also looks like a bad PS1 game.

Well.. I live up north in England and nobody has EVER asked me for some Spogs. That's not to say it's made up - I don't exactly hang around with the type of people who're likely to say it.

i instantly thought Pogs when i saw the picture. im thinking Super Pogs, or maybe Speedy Pogs. lol i have no idea what this is.

I did not know that some developers were STILL using PSone kits. It looks DATED for a PSONE game.

It's not that bad, you asses. I'd say early PS2 graphics. Now, I don't support this game in any way, but you guys don't know your hardware very well.

Because the developer has to INNOVATE, this is on the system that INVENTED innovation after all.

Joystiq sure like to attack the every Wii related thing lately...

I'm not defending this title, or the Konami title... not at all, they look all crap... but you Joystiq really like to only make a thread about the crap titles...

What I mean is, you are giving people the wrong impression about the WiiWare... why don't you better make a thread about all the announced WiiWare titles? There are excellent games that you seem to forget.

You just only put tue crap and forget about the good games...

Fernando, the reason they're covering this is because Wiiware is the next big thing for the Wii. Sure there are plenty of crappy titles on XBLA, and i'm sure there are some on the PSN (remember that office humor game). No one's attacking the Wii. Even if they are, so what. Has joystiq never attacked the 360 or ps3 before?

Fernando - it seems to me they are just making the annoucements on the crap games being offered because they have little else. I have not seen more than 1 or 2 wiiware titles posted anywhere that look interesting.

Sadly, the stuff being turned out for wiiware is looking more and more like the lame 3rd party shovelware you are getting now in disc format.

Your gripe should be with Nintendo at this point - not those who point out what Nintendo is doing.

That's why Im telling this... WiiWare is a big step in the Wii... if people want to get informed and happens to read Joystiq, they will get a bad impression...

Why dont they better do a thread with all the WiiWare titles, separating the bad games and the good games?

Besides, its not only Nintendo...

Im going to be honest... Joystiq is not the best place to get news, at least not anymore... its a great place, I love the community in here. But they seem to focus in post very old news, and only every half hour...

At least they should cover more recent news, or exclusive news... heck, maybe even if the threads are were more diferent, maybe there would be less fanboys wars... heck, I may be stop being a troll.

Actually, I have to agree that this isn't really a warranted criticism. I mean, it's a game, it's being announced, why wouldn't they do an article about it? There's nothing particularly IN the article that's attacking anything. I say pick your battles more carefully in the future, Fernando, this one isn't really worth it.

Also what isn't being pointed out, this silly game is for the PSP too, so to people who insist Sony has some kind of rigorous software quality seal that Nintendo lacks: lol

Another dual release on the Wii and the PSP only makes it that much more embarrassing.

How? This is a WiiWare title, not a full release. PSP games being equivalent to Wii download games doesn't really strike me as damning.

PSP and WSM titles ARE on the same page. Just look at Star Wars FU for an example.

This game would look like KayRap back in 1997.

The Wii doesn't actually NEED a new big thing until people can actually buy them, which is to say in about 10 years. Who cares if some WiiWare titles suck, the Wii still wins sales hands down. Sad to say it, but Nintendo doesn't need to do better - they've got a money printing machine.

Most of the PSN games are very good. I am officailly taking the stance that Go! Skydiving never happened, and it no longer on PSN store, and all recolection of the title deleted from memory

What are you talking about? There is no skydiving game. A concept that retarded would make its apperance on the Wiiware.

Hopefully, that skydiving game that my 6 year old thought was KayRap and got bored with....will be the only attempt at copying the WSM business model.
