Wii owners might finally get a new Virtual Console title that they actually give a damn about, when the classic brawler River City Ransom hits the service next week. Publisher Aksys has confirmed that they'll be releasing the title next Monday, as part of Nintendo's regular weekly releases.
Hooray for nostalgia and all, but we're getting a bit concerned with the glut of content now available on Virtual Console. Perhaps Nintendo should implement a rating system, to help users distill the garbage from the few titles that are actually as awesome as we remember them.

This makes sense, but I could never get that far in River City Ransom whenever I played...

Now why would Nintendo go and do something as foolish as to "implement a rating system, to help users distill the garbage from the few titles that are actually as awesome as we remember them." By and large, most titles are NOT as awesome as we remember them, and if we realized that, we wouldn't purchase the game. This is the same reason we're unlikely to ever see demos (SSBB notwithstanding). Besides, that's what the internet is for.
River City Ransom WAS a stellar game. I probably won't pick it up since I don't even have enough time to complete my Wii games, but I have many a fond memory of powering up my character with various food items and tonics and kicking ass. Good times.

Holy God, yes. Been waiting for this for a while. Still waiting for that DS version with wireless multiplayer, too.

Seconded. If this game had online multiplayer - even with friend codes, a second authorization code, photocopy of drivers' license and birth certificate, DNA cheek swab, criminal background check and papal blessing to play - I would finally regret not having a Wii.

I love my Wii and use it daily. I don't understand how anyone can possibly regret buying one. There is a great collection of VC games (unless you've played every one *rolls eyes*) and a good amount of titles available. Why the hell do people regret buying this? You knew what you were getting into!

Doesn't Japan's Nintendo Channel have user voting for all games(including VC and WiiWare) that you have save files on your Wii AND have played for more than 1 hour?
Also, where is my Nintendo Channel?

I may already own the original NES version, but it's so good, I'll buy it again on VC. $5 is nothing for one of the best games EVER. Not just one of the best NES games, but across ALL platforms.

Yea, instead of getting popular good games from the past we're kinda limited to unknown good games. What a weak thing to say there have been some stellar games released on the EU VC of late.

I'm going to have to pick this up. Did anyone else get stuck at that part with the goddamn chain link fence towards the end of the game? I still don't have a clue what do do there, and I refuse to google.

We don't need a VC rating system. Most of us are old enough to remember the trash anyway. Besides, if you want ratings, just got to:
