After watching the above, almost uncomfortably rad trailer for Soul Calibur IV, we're ready to make a proclamation. If you can watch Darth Vader and Yoda killing dudes and you don't melt, even just a little, then your heart is made of iron and we're revoking your geek badge. Please, just go. Leave your Cheeto-dust-stained Battlestar Galactica T-shirt with Beverly on your way out.
For those of your still with us, isn't it a little unnerving to see someone hit with a lightsaber and not be turned into person fractions? We hope the game includes a "Real World" mode where the fight begins, Yoda casually mentions that he's a Jedi and Mitsurugi puts his own sword in his belly just to save time.
...And yes, we just referred to a world including Yoda and Mitsurugi as the "real world." Please keep the snickers to a minimum.
This seems very silly. The first part of the trailer was cool with the various characters and their reasons for fighting, (note: Never played a Soul Calibur game) but why exactly are Darth Vader and Yoda there?
"Oh well, it seems the motives of Marketing are unfathomable to us mere mortals." Speak for yourself. Taking the story of Soul Calibur seriously is a pretty big mistake; people get chopped up every round and i'm pretty sure Maxi dies in Soul Calibur 1.
I know im about to ignite some starwars fans hate fire but honestly i dont really care about yoda and vader there. SW is kinda cool, but i just didnt live through the whole 3 classics time, and the new 3 movies werent good enough to love em.
SC2 with link, that definetly was a -gota buy the game- thing ,just because common its Link on a fighting game ! ,these, its just a bonus and il probably get it because its SC i liked the SC2and its(as far as fighers can be ) a good game, but yoda or vader arent in my priority list.
It ought to be really easy to hit yoda with a decent vertical attack, and if he 8-way runs then you could get him with a horizontal low or mid. I doubt you can throw him with the standard method, but the special throws of other certain characters might work too.
Why do people still find it weird that lightsabers don't cut through people in Soul Calibur? I mean, in previous games, did you expect Astaroth's huge-ass axe to cut through people, too?
YES!!! I expect the Soul Calibur programmers to grow up and go balls-out on an M-rated game so that the big-ass weapons DO cut people!
I DO expect them to stop making this look like they're fighting with toys.
That's why I stopped at the Dreamcast version. In that generation it was acceptable. In the current generation, they have no excuse for this to be so bloodless and unrealistic.
And lightsabers should be cutting through the people, their weapons, and the environment.
In SW:KotOR the lightsabre couldn't cut through a vibroblade (I know it's probably spelled wrong), which is really just a regular sword with a vibrator built-in. Despite this, the game was really accurate to the SW universe from what I could see. I mean, fuck, I loved that game!
@ Draken, In KotOR, it is held that the 'swords' had cortosis ore weaved in with the durasteel, so that a lightsaber wouldn't cut through them easily, while still having a blade that could cut, because cortosis is really weak.
Well, at least Yun-Seong looks more like Hwang and less like a member of Malice Mizer. I had my hopes up there for a moment thinking that Hwang had made a comeback. It was pretty neat to see some of the force effects of Vader in action, along with the apparent effect that lightsabers have on the environment.
I can't believe no one's commented on this yet. (Let me preface this with the fact that I don't own any SC games, but have played a bit of SC2). At the start of the trailer, there was a girl. Fully clothed. In non-skimpy armor.
That fact alone should point to this being a great installment.
As for Vader and Yoda, there could be some kind of cool story reason for them being there. The evil-sword-of-doom-thing manifests the being the entire multi-verse deems to be ultimate evil. And the good-sword-thing (there is a good one, right?) incarnates its opposite.
how are they fighting each other if each character is exclusive?
and it's dumb as shit to have console exclusive characters that don't have shit to do with the console - they should both be in both versions. How the hell else can you battle them together!?
plus, ugh. you shouldn't have to choose/get shafted and have your fav be on the other system.
I have to admit the title of this post was deceiving. To me a red flag went off going "zomg vader on 360 confirmed". However, this is possibly not the case as there was no footage of the two fighting eachother in game. Although I'm quite sure if they were marketing savvy enough to come up with this crossover in the first place, they'll see the giant gravytrain that would come from having the other character available on the other console via microtransaction.
No blood. Cruddy anime-style people with giant eyes and pointy hair. No wounding. No limb-severing. Just a lot of Japanese-style videogame fighting with big, blunt swords.
If I want to play as Vader, I'll wait for the sure-to-be superior "The Force Unleashed" instead of this half-assed "just for fun" thing.
Like I've said before: I'll come back to the Soul Calibur series when they grow up and recognize that swords CUT people.
To the retards that are complaining about a lack of blood and cutting, go play eternal champions, see how it works out for you. This game comes from one of the very finest pedigrees and probably too nuanced for cretins such as yourselves to enjoy anyways. I am sure your over-hyped prequel game will keep you busy while the rest of us are enjoying these fine works.
"For those of your still with us, isn't it a little unnerving to see someone hit with a lightsaber and not be turned into person fractions?"
Many of them have been in near contact with the power of bouth soul edge and soul calibur. Maybe, thanks to that they are pron to resist some ligth saber hits and are not instantly turned into burned meat, or something like that (I almost killed another catgirl, yay!!!!!)
And for those with the "WTF are Star Wars characters doing here, they unbalance the game". To put it simply
1.- Merchandise. Stars Wars always sells!!!!!! 2.- Second Iteration of Soul Calibur have had guest carchters. On soul calibur 2 was like this GameCube - Link (and by far, the best selled version of the game) PS2 - Heihatchi of Tekken (Why him, we don't really know, we would have been better with a Cloud, or Tidus, heck, even a Squall would had been better, they do have sowrds!!!!) XBOX - Spawn (It's freaking Spawn, with a Axe, who doesn't like this!!!!!) And know, we have this XBOX360 - Yoda (Cuz he's green and the XBOX360 is greenier than white) PS3 - Darth Vader (Cuz he's black. Need to explain more???) Wii - .............. sad, no Wii version, I would have bought it besides the PS3 version, and besides, who would had been a good character for this one. I was thinking of Qui Gonn or ObiWan Kenobi, but sad, there's no Wii version. Maybe next time
So there you have, if ya don't like it, well, simply don't buy the game, and stop bitching!!!!
