Alone in the Dark 'Descent' trailer looks more than decent
56
Has anyone else noticed an escalation in intensity from the trailers for Atari's rebirth of the once loved horror franchise, Alone in the Dark? The first bit of video we saw had our hero, Edward Carnby, traipsing throughout all manner of empty (and beautiful) environments, smashing bits of furniture and putting out house fires. Then came the tech demo, where we saw the game's innovative inventory system in action, and learned of the terrible ways one can abuse mutant sewer rats.
However, this recent trailer for the game is a one-way ride aboard the Crazy Train -- flaming elevator shafts, headcrab knock-offs, and a high-speed escape from an ominously crumbling New York City? Yes, please. You can check out a cornucopia of recently released videos (including a "piping" hot trailer we've thrown after the break) on the Alone in the Dark Gametrailers channel -- then spend the rest of the day hoping all subsequent media for the game becomes more and more intense, until previews of the game's climactic gunfight on the mouth of an active volcano against a cybernetically-enhanced Bea Arthur begin to surface.

"Doom 3 jokes aside, he's holding the flastlight in his other hand".
Well I don't think his handgun is big enough.

Forget what I just said, is the movement.
Most of the time looks like if the character was sliding from side to side not to mention that he looks emotionless all the time.

Yeah and it just seems a bit tedious as far as always grabbing stuff from the jacket ... Looks like a fun game but tedious ... I think the driving sequence looked awesome

Two words: Bad hair.
Seriously though, it looks nice - I just hope it's actually fun. Doesn't seem like a massive graphical upgrade relative to something like RE4, but I suppose you can't really tell until you're actually playing it.

They really need to fix that swinging animation it looks ridiculous. Who swings a sword like that?

Classy, original, and clever all rolled up into one post. Thanks for the contribution to the human race.

I wouldn't swing a sword any other way if I were intending to decapitate someone.

Maybe he had never hold a sword in his hands before and he doesn't look like he had years of sword training?
In that context I think the clumsy sword fighting looks pretty realistic.

This game looks AMAZING. But I'd be way too freakin' scared to play this on my own.

Ahw, I was hoping this game was going to be a very polished Survival Horror game. It looks pretty clunky and lame, the aiming system looks terrible and the game has a coat of ugly on it. Some weird effects on it. This was one of my number 1 wanted games, it has dropped at least 10 levels.

Is it just me or does the game look REALLY sluggish...
Sorry but the concept looks cool. And there are glimpses of some brilliance in there but I'm not really feeling this game anymore.

I loved the original and this looks good too, but I will miss smacking the zombies up with kicks and punches. Seems as though Edward is no longer a geeky middle aged man and now a kickass early 30s marksman.

Looks excellent, cannot wait. IR control in the Wii version would make that a lock for me. And frankly, even for the 360 build, these graphics aren't much above average (especially not that blood). If life was fair (and developers weren't lazy), this would mean it could look almost or just as good on Wii.

so when everything dies it turns into a black explosion?
and the shooting doesn't look terrible but the melee does look clunky. Was the driving fmv or gameplay?

the animation still needs a ton of tweaking.. Carnaby looks like he's slipping around on ice half the time, and the melee animations were quirky as hell.
everything else is looking great though.
