Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee 2 hitting the greens on June 3

Are you a fan of the professional golfing scene, but wish that Tiger Woods' head was a tad more hydrocephalitic? Feel disappointed when your long drives aren't punctuated with high-pitched squeals and rainbow trails? Whether you're a soon to be fan or a returning wedge-wielder, we're sure the news of a North American release date for the sequel to the PSP's premier anime-inspired golf simulator, Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee, will bring tears of joy to your dinner plate-sized, sparkle-filled eyes.
Sony recently confirmed that the game, appropriately titled Open Tee 2, will hit store shelves June 3, and will tout an 16-player online tournament mode (making up for the original game's complete lack of online support) and an 8-player ad-hoc match play mode. If you've never been exposed to Clap Hanz' peculiar take on the ancient sport, you can get the full version of Open Tee the first on the Playstation Store for $10.99 -- a mere fraction of the cost to hit the big boy links, and without all that pesky walking.

@Fernando
Everyone knows the Wii sells software ... However, a lot of the top sellers are bad titles ... Furthering the stereotype that the Wii is not for hard core gamers
Take a look at the best selling games for yourself and tell me I am wrong

John McPoop @ Apr 20th 2008 5:35PM
You mean the online interface of the Wii doesn't allow you to easily organize matched with your friends?
Who'd of thunk it
I think (for the most part) the only console that allows easy play amongst friends is the 360 ... In general
Fernando Rocker @ Apr 20th 2008 5:45PM
John
That list is outdated... currently, there are 26 million sellers titles on the Wii, against 11 PS3 titles...
And they all are actually pretty good, with the exception of both Rayman games and Carnival Games. The rest is a pretty good list.
And regarding the Wii Online... I can't organize a match againts Fatass because he wasnt online...
Fernando Rocker @ Apr 20th 2008 5:50PM
Mario Kart Wii, Wii Sports, Wii Play, Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Party 8, Twilight Princess, Smash Bros, Mario and Sonic, Big Brain Academy, Super Paper Mario, WarioWare, Guitar Hero, Wii Fit, Resident Evil 4, Mario Strikers, Carnival Games, Rayman, Metroid Prime 3, Sonic and the Secret Rings, Resident Evil UC, Lego Star Wars, Red Steel, Rayman 2 and MySims.
The only sucky games on that list are both Rayman, Carnival Games and Red Steel. The rest of the list is pretty decent.
John McPoop @ Apr 20th 2008 6:01PM

The List Was A Joke ... Pretty funny list at that ... No need for a list war ... Guess it went over your head by a bit
Yoshii Wholly Inaccurate Hockey
Onan The Barbarian
Mario Kite
Super Gay Tennis
Virtual Babysitter
Throwing The Thing At The Thing

Mario And Sonic At They Olympics
Big Brain Academy
Wario Ware
Wii Fit
Mario Strikers Charged
Carnival Games
Rayman Raving Rabbids
Sonic & The Secret Rigs
Red Steel
Rayman 2
My Sims
I am sure some of those are fun and I admit I haven't played all of them but those are not great games ...

from the PS3 games, million sellers include PES, Fifa and Need for Speed...
Those are sucky games too...
But what I was saying is that those games are average games, with avobe average reviews... those games are not shovelware. (Well, maybe Carnival games is sholveware)
John McPoop @ Apr 20th 2008 6:16PM
@Fernando
I know what your saying man ... there is no need to have a virtual pissing contest ... All good ... I think with how many people who have Wii's from all walks of life the system can sell a million copies of just about anything ... There are not a lot of games that I like but I have about 7 or 8 wii games ... Probably pick up Mario kart eventually as well ... Just depends on what you like ... As strange as it may sound to some people I actually like the PS3 exclusive titles ...
John McPoop @ Apr 20th 2008 6:18PM
@Fernando
Pro Evolution and Fifa are not sucky games at all ... I have never cared for Need For Speed but it is a popular franchise ...

"I admit I haven't played all of them but those are not great games ..."
These two statements contradict each other. Now, since a lot of you are stuck in the 'if it isn't hardcore, it sucks' mindset, you simply dismiss anything you don't think you would play as 'lame'. However, there are a few pieces of software on that list that are, in fact, pretty darn good, including WarioWare, Sonic and the Secret Rings, Mario Strikers Charged, and Rayman.
And one that gets hate that it shouldn't - Wii Fit. Rant time! Seriously, half the griping I hear about that game come from people who don't know jack shit about it and simply dismiss it as a scale peripheral with a lame piece of software - something that, to anyone who has actually looked at the different things the package offers, is simply not the truth. Of course, this is Joystiq, uninformed trolling should be expected (not directed towards you, McPoop, but to the general troll audience).
(just throwing this in there - http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/wii/wiifit - one below average review, one average review, and seven above average reviews so far. let me add that the one below average review and the one average review both state that if you're devoted to it and you use it as the manual states you should, aka daily, it is a quite good piece of tech.)
Fernando Rocker @ Apr 20th 2008 6:32PM
Fatass
I think you are right... I mean, PES and FIFA may be good, but honestly, I dont like sport games... so I prefer Mario Strikers, which is a good game, and people still play that game online.
Same with Sonic... I think is one of the best 3D Sonics out there...
As for WiiFit... this game is not aimed to anyone of us... I know I will not buy it, at least not at $90, but that doesnt mean its a bad game. Reviews are positive so far...
But not because is not aimed to us, it has to be a bad game... it will certainly sell a lot of units, and for some people this will be a good game.
el serpiente @ Apr 20th 2008 7:45PM
This is a piss poor flame-war.
John McPoop @ Apr 20th 2008 7:46PM
@Fatass @Fernando
I play a lot of games that are not considered hardcore but its mostly with my kids ... And I haven't played all of the games on that list but I have rented and played the majority of them ... Obviously some stuff just doesn't appeal to the individual person and no matter how good others consider it will not be tried ... For instance, Fernando said PES and Fifa suck without having ever played them as well as admitting he doesn't like sports games ... Like wise i won't be playing a lot of games on the list ...
As far as Wii Fit goes ...
I really don't know what to think but from initial impressions it doesn't seem like a game as much a it is a lifestyle choice ... For instance, it has some good body tracking stuff and if used in conjunction with a good workout I am sure it can help ... I know they are releasing games for it as well but in my opinion they seem to be the same as Wii Sports is to the Wii ... more of a way to show you what it can do ... I don't expect any of those to be revolutionary ... Calling it nothing but a scale is a bit disingenious but it's not that far from the truth ... Its a scale and a periphial ...
I don't care how good the reviews are of say Pet Horseez for the DS I will simply never play it because it doesn't interest me at all ...
I think you guys will play most Nintendo first party games and enjoy not only because they are Nintendo but because you like them. Now, if you removed the Mario characters from say Mario Strikers and it were completely different characters I don't think it wold have 1/10th of the interest ...
For whatever reason Fernando loathes the PS3 and the Playstation brand he will miss out on some great games and a great console ... The same way I will miss out on a lot of Wii games ... Even though I have a Wii i only buy the big time games for it ... We all have some built in preferences and bias ... Its human nature ...
I don't have to play every game before I know (in my opinion) whether or not its good ... You see no matter what Metacritic says in the end its an opinion and its not a matter of fact its a matter of taste ... There are plenty of games I never have to play and I know whether or no they are good ... You see because its whether or not they appeal to me ...
I think sometimes we all take this stuff personal ... Like if I were to say that I think the graphics on the Wii are not up to the standards of the PS360 and the Wii mote (sans IR) are a little gimmicky you guys would take that personal and want to defend the Wii ... I am not saying that to be mean or spiteful its just my opinion ... Like if you were to say the PS3 has no games, gimped online, horrible ports and tacked on controls I might take that personal and defend it even though I shouldn't ... Because even though these are electronics we all have some sort of attachment to them ... We all (myself included) need to learn to not take things personal ... I still don't understand why Fernando always brings up the PS3 in every post in defense of the Wii but maybe its because he knows he will get a reaction ... Whether its positive or negative attention is attention and some people crave it ...
Anyway ... Cheers and happy times ... This is all in good fun anyway ... We are grown men who are lucky enough to have the ability to argue about video games ... It could be much worse
Matt B @ Apr 20th 2008 8:15PM
There are these programs called "Instant Messengers". Much quicker than blog post for communicating your stupid, off topic hugabaloo.

lol, what? I may be a bit biased towards the Wii (because, honestly, though I own the trifecta I've had more fun with the Wii... don't ask me how that happened, because from what I hear that's pretty rare), but I'm not biased to the point where I'd dispute truths. The only times I even throw my opinion into the fray are when I wholeheartedly disagree with something that sounds stupid to me.

I do like that this series keeps expanding. Good times.
KeenCommander @ Apr 20th 2008 4:46PM
Ignoring the above flame, that looks great. The original Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee was a blast.
Thief @ Apr 20th 2008 5:02PM
Have you noticed that most of Sony's Greatest Hits are made by Sony studios themselves.
I dont think these Hotshots games deserve Greatest Hits title.
John McPoop @ Apr 20th 2008 5:08PM
HOT SHOTS Out Of Bounds is a nice game ... I can't see myself buying a PSP version as well but the series is a great one ...
Mr Khan @ Apr 20th 2008 5:14PM
I don't know, Out Of Bounds gives me a radical vibe of the hideous "Outlaw Golf"
The game is there, and solid, but the connotation is bad
John McPoop @ Apr 20th 2008 5:25PM
To each his own I suppose ... I was thinking of picking up the golf game for the Wii (can't think of the name but it had Hayabusa on the back) but decided to go with HSG OOB instead ... I like the online setup but I wish it didn't lack voice chat ... I have a blast playing it online with some fellow Joystiq-ers and its a blast ... Its obviously not a true golf simulation but it is not as over the top as some of the other golf games ... If I wanted something more serious I would have picked up Tiger Woods ... I think for what it is that it certainly provides some good times ... A mini golf mode would have been a welcomed addition ...
Trethan @ Apr 20th 2008 5:34PM
How can you not like Outlaw Golf? Pick a club, push the stick straight up, and hit the ball. It's simple *and* you beat up your caddy.
I'd take Outlaw over Tiger anytime.

"I don't know, Out Of Bounds gives me a radical vibe of the hideous "Outlaw Golf"

How is that even a fair comparison? If anything, Outlaw Golf is a rip off of Hot Shots. So I'm not sure how you can say HSG feels like Ooutlaw Golf when it's the other way around. Besides, HSG is at least 10x better.
BPM [SSBB: 5026 4120 1186] @ Apr 22nd 2008 4:20AM
The Wii golf game is Super Swing Golf (or if you live in Europe, PangYa: Golf with Style!). It's based on the MMO golf game by Korean developer Ntreev Soft, PangYa.
Even though it lacks the MMO element of the PC PangYa (or as the American server is called, Albatross18), the Wii version is still quite fun. I find that its swing mechanics were better than Wii Sports Golf and Tiger Woods (and heard they improved upon it in SSG Season 2, but haven't played it yet), and the story mode is interesting.
It isn't actually Hayabusa in SSG. It's the PangYa character "Max" cosplaying as him. All of the PangYa characters got Tecmo-themed costumes in the Wii games (Arin got a Kasumi costume in SSG, and a costume based on Monster Rancher's Pixie in SSG2).

I'm the other way around. I like the PSP game, but I'm not sure I'd like to play it at home on PS3. It just works so well as a portable thing, to play a quick 9 holes. Since I don't really use the PSP online much (or ever, really) I'm wondering if this new HSG is worth picking up to replace the old one.
PojoMofo @ Apr 21st 2008 9:46AM
Hell yes!!!! I perfer my golf portable in all honesty. LOVED the first game, this one looks full of win.
Hopefully I will be done with the 2 PSP games I bought that are still sitting in shrink wrap.

“Zelda I really didn't enjoy on it. They back-fitted the control scheme on it, it was better on the GameCube. Mario, I wish there had been a button instead of wiggle and all that kind of ****. So I haven't played anything that I really wished hadn't been on another platform sadly enough. It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, ‘Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it’. So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then goes out and buys it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. Obviously there's a class of people who really love it and enjoy it and are getting into the games but I'm still waiting for that one game that makes me play it. Who knows, maybe Wii Fit will be it."
