Bethesda: There will be no demo for Fallout 3
25
Cake, pizza, fabric, all things you can take a chunk out of to judge the quality. But Fallout 3, it's more like a Jenga tower or a baby: Taking a sample slice out of it won't end up well for anyone. To that end Eurogamer reports that Bethesda's Pete Hines says there will be no demo for the sprawling action RPG.
"When you build it as one thing, there's no way to portion off a section and have it stand on its own without putting the whole game in the demo, which we're just not going to do," Hines told the publication. But honestly, if at their heart demos are to help consumers make wise buying decisions, do you really need one for Fallout 3? We'll be fine waiting to have our minds blown by the whole package. In the interim, enjoy these three new screenshots Bethesda released today, to take the edge off.

I was kind of hoping for one, but it ultimately doesn't surprise me seeing as they didn't do one for Oblivion. But, maybe they should seeing as this is kind of a departure for the series...

Bethesda= Sho nuff. I agree with them, sometimes taking a "chunk" of a game and slapping the word demo on it ends up backfiring and making people say "what is this? i don't get the point...blah blah". Smart thinking.

The majority of AAA games don't get a demo, so I'm not surprised by this news. I don't, however, agree with their reasoning. Demos need only be 10 minutes long, in which case they should be able to get by with giving just a single dungeon or something for us to screw around in.
With Bethesda making the game, the only worry I have with this game is the combat. I want to know if combat is fun before buying the game.

I guess everyone really knows what to get from a bethesda game anyways. It's just that a lot of fallout fans probably still hope for getting something else than "oblivion apocalypse" and would prefer to test the game instead of buying it and then find out their gut feeling was right.

A demo would be great for a guy like me who is hesitant on buying the game due to the possible mishandling that Bethesda might have done with the franchise.
Oh well, I guess I'll just probably rent it first.

[fake surprise] Oh my! [/fake surprise]
The only demo I need is "Hey, we're making another Fallout" -- I'm already sold.

I would actually like a demo.
I've never played a Fallout game in the past, but this one has peaked my interest. The stuff I've heard so far sounds good, but I've been burned before by buying games based off of review scores alone - namely Advance Wars DS (it got 9s, but just wasn't for me).
I guess I'll just have to wait for reviews / player impressions.:(

You can buy both Fallout 1 & 2 together for about 20 bucks. You should go do so now.

Ever since that story came out about the successful games not having demos more games are announcing they won't have a demo. First Gears of War 2, now this. Fallout 3 seems to be prime for a demo. It's been a while since Fallout 2 came out and this will be entirely different. Perhaps they'll rethink this decision.

Oblivion was buggy, but its merits overshadowed its flaws... even when I had to reset my PS3 twice after walking out of the Fighters' Guild hall...

The random crashes and getting stuck in invisible "holes" in the environment I could deal with, but I couldn't even finish the Thieves Guild quest because of a stupid bug. That's pretty bad. A major subsection of your sidequests that can't be finished? No workaround other than restarting from a save point that's 10-15 hours back? No patch? Brutal.
