Don't expect a split-screen patch for UT3 on PS3
Rein explains it would be a "big job" to go back and retrofit the PS3 version and doesn't believe Epic has the resources to devote to such a project. He says more mod support will be added to the PS3 version of the game, but wouldn't go into specifics. The Xbox 360 version of UT3 is expected "this summer."

But I did read that the 360 version would get mods as well, so they get their cake and gobble it all up.

My guess is the 360's "mods" will be DLC characters and levels that will cost 400 points while being free on the PS3. I would take free mods over split screen anyday for a game like this.

I doubt it... Since Microsoft has no hand in publishing or promoting this content, it should be entirely up to Epic.

Hah... wishful thinking. Wasn't it Epic that wanted release a GoW map pack for free but MS wouldn't let them? Mods would almost certainly be distributed as DLC... and MS has absolute control over that content. The 360 is a closed proprietary platform and MS has control over the content.

Yes that is true that MS did not want the DLC free but MS was the publisher for gears and invested money in distribution, marketing, and development. They just wanted a return on their cash.
MS has no say on what DLC is put for free on the marketplace if they are not publishing the game under MS Game Studios.

Vid, as King stated, Microsoft published the content for Epic, as well as the game. Microsoft has had no hand in publishing this game, so Epic could very well put it up for free depending on the publisher's wishes as well. Also, they have been working with Microsoft to come up with a solution for user created content, and I wouldn't doubt that them hosting it for free would be that solution.

2 reasons for this.
1) Hardcore UT fans with multiple systems have a reason to possibly purchase the game.
2) 360 fans don't feel as bad for getting the game so late.
Generally, if a game is released very late on a system it has a little something extra in it.

The game is great there is no doubt about it ... Split screen should be a welcome addition to 360 users ... I have it on the PS3 and I enjoy the mods plenty ... I am sure the 360 will have the Mods as DLC (some of them) and maybe even charge for them ... In a way its s good thing because its easier to get the stuff which is one complaint I have with the PS3 version ... If it's between unlimited access to user created mods or some mods + split screen I choose the unlimited mods ... If your someone who plays the game at home with siblings or friends and don't care for the mods maybe the 360 is the way to go ... Interesting enough that both versions have their advantages and disadvantages ... great game though

I doubt they will charge for them since they are free on PS3. They dont want a whole other EA debacle on their hands. Maybe this whole EA charging for DLC is really doing some good. UT3 on 360 IS shaping up to be the one to own. Now Im more than likely to trade my PS3 copy for the 360 version. Sup Mcpoop? Ready for some MGO, should be interesting =)

I think the 360 version is going to wind up with some sort of approval process for user created content. In other words, 360 users won't see most of it.

Ive been having my PS3 since Dec 07. I like the PS3 but theres just so much room for improvement there. Its getting there though. I got it for Bluray, Tekken 6, Wipeout HD, Uncharted, MGS4 and O, my kids, etc. Dont worry Im not the only PS360 owner that bashes it from time to time.

You guys realize how mods work right? They aren't controlled or developed by Epic, but by regular users. In order for just about any content to get onto LIVE, Microsoft screens what goes on there.
I have no doubt that Microsoft would not allow for mods to be distributed on LIVE outside of Epic actually collecting the mods and bringing them to LIVE themselves, which I highly doubt they would do.

I have no current-gen console (still wanna call them next-gen), but I'll be getting a PS3 next month. If I had more time and money to devote to gaming, I'd get a 360 right afterwards, no Wii though. : )

Im not sure whats pushing you to get a PS3 first but I would think if gaming is your first priority and you want to buy a pure gaming machine it would be 360 first. I own both and can tell you that even with RROD and all that I would still get a 360 first. Ask any PS360 owner and 99.9% of the time they will tell you the same.

epic doesn't have a choice. It *must* be done via Xbox live; and microsoft charges to put stuff up on there. The only logical thing for mod developers to do is charge to download.

Well I for one feel a bit jipped.... I jumped on the bandwagon early with the PS3 version, was disappointed to find it had no split screen, and now I hear this news. If I'd have known, I'd have waited for the 360 version. How hard is it really to do split screen? Geez, c'mon. Its not like the PS3 is lacking power or anything.

And its been said before and I'll say it again I don't really care about the mods and whether or not they're in the better 360 version. Most mods are useless garbage. or some type of virus that does nothing to add real value to the game.
Split screen is awesome news though and if we get the APPROVED mods that Epic deems worthy then thats even better IMO cuz it means that Epic itself and its gamers feel that the DLC is truly going to be great.

Its a really good game. It really shines when playing warefare and all those gigantic maps. vehicles are awesome

Most mods being crap is true.
But some of the good ones are still much more than the measly exclusive maps 360 will get in compensation.
360 owners can wish for mutators such as Geow action cam(improves visual perspectiv), jet pack boosters, characters such as marc fenix, masterchief, metroid sam or whoever and wouldnt be surprised if Snake makes it in the roster, most importantly, qwerky maps, such as as giant living room and lego.......all free
