How to earn the five controversial Bad Company weapons

The Battlefield: Bad Company DLC controversy has settled down after EA compromised with their "marketing promotions" idea and now today, thanks to Planet Battlefield, we know exactly what we'll have to do to earn all five additional weapons. So, without further wait, here are the non-Microsoft point involved steps to earn each controversial weapon ...

QBU88 Sniper Rifle: Pre-order the game online or at any participating retailer.
UZI Submachine Gun: Download and play the demo
M60 Light Machine Gun: Sign up for the Battlefield newsletter
F2000 Assault Rifle: Register your Battlefield soldier name
USAS12 Shotgun: Check your Bad Company stats online at launch.

Like we said, there's no Microsoft points involved, but is this really a better solution? A show of hands please, who's committed to completing all five tasks listed above to earn the Bad Company weapon bounty?

Sounds pretty simple to me. Outside of the preorder I'll definitely do the other 4 b/c I would've done them anyway.

However, my main concern continues to be the team chat. If I can only talk to 3 other people on my 12 man squad I'm not even going to buy this game,

The pre-order thing and the demo thing are kind of redundant. If you don't pre-order, can you ever unlock that one gun?

Meh, after playing the beta quite a bit, I'm not really looking forward to this game.

I got a whole bunch of guns for Call of Duty 4.

By buying the game.

Is this the game where you're the army dood and you shoot at the other army doods? Yeah, I already got a game like that.

@Neuromancer: Oh, you mean Return To Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory? Yea I played that years ago, a lot of it too. Oh and its all free to boot!

EA didn't "compromise" with these five guns. They were always going to do these marketing programs. They compromised on the other 5 "gold edition" weapons that were going to be available from the XBLM for those that didn't buy the gold edition.

They have not changed their plans at all with these 5. It quite clearly lists them in the beta as available through marketing programs. With the other five being available to purchase or in the gold edition.

BTW, aren't these redeem codes going to be posted in all of the websites? I wonder if they will be unique or sort of like the R6V2 map and weapon codes.

And you sir, are the reason why this limited edition/special edition things will continue!

Hell yeah I'll do these things to get the weapons... If EA would release a game worth it. I was really looking forward to this game but after playing the Beta I won't even download the demo. Clunky is the best term for this game. Anyone remember Operation Flashpoint? This game feels more clunky then that one did back in the day.

The demo is actually good, although I get the feeling like this game will be overshadowed by GTA and therefore drop in price in a couple of months......

After playing the BETA I have lost hype for this game. It has too many issues with it that I find make the game not enjoyable. The weapons are even more of a scam.

I'm not buying this game.

I agree you on this. The Beta pretty much sucked. Everything felt gimped, weak etc. Regardless of it being un-finished etc, the game is just not worth it. Don't buy in to all the hype. I'm sick of EA's crap and will do my part in showing this by not buying the product (even if I did like it, which I do not - surprisingly).

I'll probably give the demo a try anyways.

I really hope you are not being serious...As long as people continue to purchase the content and buy into the crap EA is doing, it will continue. Even if someone can't resist the urge to buy the game, the DLC should be avoided just to make a statement to EA.

F%#k this game! I'll stick to COD4, where you don't have to go through all this Bulls%#t just for 5 measly weapons.

So none of the ways listed would generate revenue for EA? I would think they all would. I bet they have a swimming pool full of cash that they take breaks from programing to go swim in. Its what seems to motivate them..

For me to want to get the weapons, first the game would have to not suck.

Stick with COD4 and get stuck with all the nade spamming bullshit.....

Yeah man, COD4 just pisses me off. I loved COD2 because it was suppose to be a WWII game, COD4 is the same WWII game with sprinting and a gimmicky perk system. It doesn't make any sense slapping a modern combat coat of paint on it. In modern combat people don't run around like morons tossing grenades across the battlefield randomly. Battles are fought with a small amount of soldiers and not at the frenzied pace that they were in WWII and Veitnam. It isn't suppose to be throw more bodies at them than they have grenades/bullets. The whole game just pissed me off, modern combat my ass. I would have liked the game better if it would have made sense. Also, RPGs? ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS? *breaks COD4 disc*

Campaign for COD4 was great though.

COD4 felt like Braveheart with guns. "FOR FREEDOM!! LOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!"

Note: An actual Braveheart game with guns would have been pretty sweet.

WOW EA is still up to no good this better be the best FPS eva made 4 me to buy this game and partake in all this DLC BS. I never pre order games and refuse to buy weapons that R all ready on the disk so I'll most likely skip this 1 and say FU to EA and they're scams.

Beta blew, I'll stick with COD4, it has it's flaws but when i walk in COD4 it doesn't feel like I'm wearing big heavy lead boots or something - Oh and thanks to the killcam, i can at least know what killed me, the amount of times i spawned and died from god knows what..and don't get me started on snipers, good luck spotting where hes camping.

If I pick up the game I'll do the one for the FN F2000. A little bit of effort is worth it for one of the greatest guns ever manufactured.

I think its better than paying for the weapons. Heck, it might even get more people to join the BF community.

But, I digress. This game can't take me away from COD4. White Castle, however...

If the additional guns were significantly different from the others in the game, then I'd be upset. But none of them look better than the guns already offered. So I doubt I'll use the new weapons much.

Yeah, I'll probably jump through a few hoops to unlock them. I've already got the game pre-ordered and I was planning to check out the demo anyways. So all I need to do is sign-up for a newsletter, register my name and check my stats. No big deal.

OMFG THIS IS STOOPID IM GOING TO KEEP PLAYING C-O-D FOUR CAUSE ITS SO ADDICTING AND FRESH(really everyone with this approach sounds like a bunch of morons) I like call of duty and the franchise but this huge fuss about how GODLY it is just turns me off. ok battlefield, this is a typical EA marketing scheme to get folks to get into their stuff, you cant blam- well you can, but I would just like to know how to register the name thing. I admire the F2000 and would like to use it in this game. Any help on how to do this?

it might be the most overhyped, unrealistic shooter of all time, but cod4 just plays...really nice. I have a hard time going into other FPS games because i wish they played as smooth.

These microtransactions clumsily shoehorned into games don't make any sense to me.

With modern consoles being internet-enabled, the next step in marketing is to add a real-world shop to games with licensed brands. Playing skate, and like the shoes your avatar is wearing? Add a buy-now interface to the in-game shop screen. Hell, there are dozens of games, especially EA games, that this would work for. They could even set this up themselves, without a storefront. If i could order some of the customizable clothes Rock Band, you can bet I'd consider it. Turning the game into a means to shop could be, in the right context, less annoying than billboard-like visual ads or paying for little game content. Seriously, I'm surprised this hasn't happened already.

Seems kind of bad to me. Its like EA are saying to consumers "okay, you all biatched about it costing money, so now we are going to get our own back and think of the dumbest ways for you to be able to unlock them."

And how about people that buy this game several months from launch? Will they still be able to get all the codes? Obviously the pre-order one will be impossible to get for most people, unless the codes aren't unique. Good thing they don't cost MS points but then they go and make 1/5 require pre-order which is forces you to buy it from a specific retailer. How
