Real-time Call of Duty card game coming in Fall '08
Here at Joystiq, we've always felt that the intense, highly realistic military action of the Call of Duty games would be better captured by a card game. Thankfully, someone at Upper Deck had the same idea, because the company announced the Call of Duty Real-time Card Game at this weekend's New York Comic Con.MTV's Stephen Totilo got an early demo of the game, which comes off as a mix between the Pokémon TCG and the traditional card game Spit. Players lay down soldiers, protective cover and weapon cards as fast as possible, until someone plays a "freeze" card and all the damage and effects get tallied up. The game will be based on the non-modern Call of Duty games (sorry, COD4 fans) and could possibly include special cards that unlock in-game content for Call of Duty 5 (much like similar cards in the World of Warcraft card game) -- though this feature isn't yet confirmed. Look for it in stores this Fall.

Maybe we need a Rule 35
If it is awesome, there is a significantly less awesome card game for it
(a reaction to both this and the Bleach TCG i saw advertised while watching Bleach)
Neebs @ Apr 21st 2008 7:40PM
...are you trying to imply Rule 34 is the last rule? There's like 15 more.
Mr Khan @ Apr 21st 2008 7:41PM
I was never led to believe that there were more, i figured 34 was just an arbitrary number
k, someone redirect me then?
StrangeBum @ Apr 21st 2008 8:34PM
It's a relatively long list.

I doubt I'll play it but I am always interested in things like this. I really want to get my hands on Risk: Black Ops after an article I read last week.
Cards look cool.
MarkHawk @ Apr 21st 2008 6:28PM
Hope I can get a rare and shiny MarkHawk Squad Leader card. There worth a fortune on ebay!
Would be cool if they used player names from xbox live, PS3, or PC... though for legal reasons, I dont see it happening.

There was an AOE2 card game that wasn't bad, hell it was actually pretty damned good for a licensed card game (My dad bought a few decks some odd years ago because he's a history buff but wasn't aware of the PC games.)
This, however, is probably going to suck.
finnith @ Apr 21st 2008 7:24PM
It needs an anime to go along with it.
Mr.ESC @ Apr 21st 2008 11:08PM

Let the pimping of COD 4 begin ... I have heard rumors of a COD MMO as well ... To bad Infinity Ward isn't making COD 5 ... Treyarch (?) will probably make another WWII era FPS ...
Super Cold School @ Apr 21st 2008 7:39PM

Obie @ Apr 21st 2008 7:48PM

GaryM @ Apr 21st 2008 8:17PM
"highly realistic military action of the Call of Duty games"
I stopped reading right there.
IncredibleBulk92 @ Apr 21st 2008 8:37PM
How the hell can you have a "real time" card game, surely the one who puts down the cards fastest wins?... You know what I don't care, don't bother correcting me
John McPoop @ Apr 21st 2008 10:31PM
Play Metal Gear Acid ... Real time card game
Mr.ESC @ Apr 21st 2008 11:05PM

Intentless @ Apr 21st 2008 9:02PM
They may have just found a way to sell COD 5... Which I was going to skip...
MattLoter @ Apr 21st 2008 11:46PM
I played a couple games of it at the Con and was surprised at how fun it actually was. It really has nothing to do with COD other than it being war themed though. I'm sure they are hoping that it will also soon share in it's money pile production capabilities.
And while it's real time, you are pulling cards and having to think about how you are going to use them so there is a push and pull between speed and strategy that works way better than expected. It's certainly not about who can just pull cards faster will win.
Also, it's not collectible. There are 8 decks (armies) with some minor differences between their play style.
