This corresponds with information Joystiq has received from a source close to the company, who tells us that multiple instruments – including a microphone and drumkit – will be a part of the next Guitar Hero game, likely to be called Guitar Hero IV despite its focus on multiple instruments (other potential names: Band Hero and Rockstar Hero). Also, our source reports that Activision insiders are proud enough of their drum peripheral to say that it will be "superior" to Rock Band's (we know, shocking).
Perhaps just as importantly, Activision's weakness in downloadable content could be resolved as early as the release of Guitar Hero: Aerosmith this June, when content is expected to be released regularly, perhaps "even weekly." Also contributing to the company's positive outlook on DLC is the pending merger with Vivendi, potentially giving it unparalleled access to that company's Universal Music Group, the largest family of record labels in the music industry.
We've asked Activision to comment on this story. If anyone close to the story has any additional information to share, you know where to find us.

Yes I can!

And like Apollo said, please give us a double pedal. It would be cool if it had the mechanics of a real drum pedal too.

Rockband is the place to be fool!
I hope to God this addition of new instruments doesn't kill Rock Band. The songs are SOOO much better than GH...3.....but it doesnt have the mainstream popularity...... yet :(
Regardless, I personally like RB more and don't think this will kill off that franchise.
Either way, Activision butchered Guitar Hero. What makes them think they can do any better by copying Rock Band?
Besides the mint they made off of GH3, I mean.

guitar hero 3 still wears jean shorts.
Blah, as much as I still like Guitar Hero, Rock Band is better in so many ways. In the end, GHIV (Now with Drums!) will be just some crappy knock off and Rock Band 2 would be a better choice, IMO.
But I dunno, let's see if Activision can wow me. I predict that GH will become the Tony Hawk franchise - drivel. But my last name doesn't have an -tcher at the end, so I guess I'm not fit to make these analysis.

Seriously though, they could have done more than just changing the words. It's Overdrive, not Star Power....totally different.
but it was Harmonix's game to begin with. how can you possibly rip off something that's yours?
I like Guitar Hero because the guitar is actually challenging.

This is just a "We can do it too!" game, Rockband makes the game with the whole band and fun element in mind, GH only cares primarly about "hard rock and challange" along with cash ins. Therefore Rockband will be better than GH4.

I don't know how to put into words this feeling I have, so I'll describe it as best I can: amusement mixed with despair mixed with humiliation. Amusement because it's funny that they're so obviously and unapologetically ripping off Rock Band; despair because even if the game sucks balls, people will still buy it since it says "Guitar Hero" on it; and humiliation because Guitar Hero once stood for fun and unique--now it stands for rip-off, corporate, and shame.
