Don't forget you won't be able to use your Rock Band accessories with GH4. Gotta love Activision!

Screw this. If I wanted Rock Band, I'd bloody buy stupid overpriced Rock Band - give me REAL Guitar Hero or give me death.

So you admit you want a cashin game that screws with diffculty, adding non existant notes, over charges for DLC and forces you to buy in packs and that has less functionality? At least with the Sixaxis
(remember how it was conviently announced after the Wiimote) of Video Games you get more bang for your buck.

I'll admit the DLC selection sucks and it's vastly overpriced, but as far as adding non-existent notes and making the game an actual challenge - yes, that's EXACTLY what I want.

Then I guess you never tried RB on Hard where it actually gets hard. See unlike in the fabulous world of GH, Medium means for average players not vets. Go play the entire last set on hard in RB for guitar, get back to me on the diffculty then. Also when you add non existant notes, it breaks someone from even pretending that they are playing the song, all they do is make it needlessly hard and throw off the rhythm of the song. If you want to make it a true fair hard, either start adding a second set of notes for a second string or try to make it closer to the actual note set from the song.

Gee, thanks for the support all. I play GH on hard mostly and about 40% on expert and I just don't see anything in Rock Band matching up to that level of difficulty, at least not in guitar parts. And I don't have a problem with adding notes as long as it doesn't sound bad - the Guitar Hero version of 3's and 7's is more fun, regardless of whether or not those notes are actually there. It's a little more obvious when they're doing it in Through the Fire and Flames, but I still don't think it's so out of control that it's spoiling the songs. And besides, if you're playing on anything less than expert you're not getting the real experience of playing the song because the notes you're playing aren't actually the ones that are there anyways.

Guitar Hero? What's that?

(You look west. There is a large tank of water containing a shark. Flying over it on water skis is an XXXXTREME GUITAR PLAYER thrashing away on a plastic guitar while guzzling Mountain Dew and smelling of Axe.)

Oh, that.

(You continue playing Rock Band.)

LOL. Man Activision has turned into the new EA so quickly. Oddly enough, EA has almost simultaneously started to turn into the new Activision.

I will say, that I really do hope that DJ Hero that has been hinted is a reality. If its to Beatmania what Guitar Hero was to Guitar Freaks I will buy it day one.

Meh....call me crazy but I own about 11 GH3 DLC songs and 2 Rock Band DLC songs (one of them the freebie "Still Alive").

I just like GH3's "rock out" gameplay more than Rock Bands anal retentive "press the button at the EXACT right moment or it doesn't count" gameplay where you have to sit there and painlessly stare at the screen without blinking to time all your note presses right rather than just having fun.

Plus they pump up the sound from the other instruments too much to place focus on them, so you can hardly ever hear the guitar notes you're supposedly "playing". When I play Rock Band I feel like I'm listening to music while randomly pressing buttons that have nothing to do with the music being played.

Rock Band is extremely forgiving as far as timing goes. Go play Guitar Freaks and see what "press the button at the EXACT right moment or it doesn't count" REALLY means.

Are you sure you don't have a problem with synchronization between the TV and the sound? I never had a problem with pressing the notes at the right time because I listen to the tempo and rythm when playing any of the rockband instruments. Of course that wouldn't work if the sound being played later or sooner than what you see.

In my opinion, Rockband sounds better than GH3. In GH3, all you mainly hear is the guitar and everthing else has a much lower volume. Rock Band's instruments are more evenly distributed throught the speakers (in 5.1 surround sound). For an example, you would hear the guitar in one speaker and the bass in another, etc. so that everything is heard clearly. Afterall, thats the whole purpose of having surround sound.

I'm a tad worried for Harmonix now. Guitar Hero IV has the popular Guitar Hero name, and many people prefer the GH3 guitar over the Rock Band one (I'm not one of the, however). So if the same will go for the drums, then Activision will have the advantage here. Plus all the pissed Wii-only owners will flock to GHIV due to the shoddy Wii port of Rock Band.

But I'm sure Harmonix will step up their game to compete. So I guess this could end up being a really good thing.

From the Wikipedia page about DrumMania:
"Konami has not produced an American version of DrumMania, since MTV Games holds the US patent for "drum simulation games", which MTV took full advantage of with the release of Rock Band."

So... it's gonna be pretty hard for Activision.

This will be the debacle that proves to Activision that the right move was to buy Harmonix, not just the GH franchise. Activision assumed that the guys at Harmonix just lucked into a franchise that could be milked forever and that they (Activision) didn't need the creativity of the developer to make profitable games.

I never thought I'd say this, but thank God a mega-publisher bought Harmonix already - otherwise Activision's next move would be to come back to the table, buy the developer, and merge/wreck the franchises. Let's just hope EA keeps letting those guys do what they do.

This could be awesome, but I will not buy it if the Rock Band drums don't work with it and/or the drums that come with this game don't work for Rock Band. The drums would have to be extremely superior as well, seeing as I've had four sets and they've all broken. Somehow I doubt it though, seeing as my GH3 Les Paul also broke...Who stress tests music game peripherals anyway?
I also expect FAR more master tracks.

I for one like GHIII, but mainly for the songs. I play most of the classic rock songs more than anything. Also GHIII is a great solo game. Now when i am with friends. I prefer RB. However i personally dont really like to play both of those games by my self. I tend to stick to my FPS and RPGs if i am playing alone. I dont have XboxLive Friends *tear*

Anywhoo... i think for RBII there should be a Piano attachment. For one that would open up a lot more songs, especial the ones that are heavy laced with piano like Styxs Sail Away!

If you're into classic rock songs, then rockband is the way to go, not guitar hero.

The Boston 6-track pack is the best thing ever made.

Last time I checked it was called GUITAR Hero.

Why can't rival companies let products stand by themselves and not just placate each others wallets by copying the next big thing. Let Guitar Hero be Guitar Hero and fucking Rock Band be Rock Band.
These kinds of business tactics are so frustrating.

This is NOT competition. This isn't two auto parts stores in the same time selling the same brand of break pads for two different prices. Thats competition and it healthy. This is like if one store sold a knock-off brand of brake pads and told me they were exactly like the main brand when really they aren't. Thats bullshit.

On that note, I'm going to go watch Tommy Boy.

Hey, yay for being blind to acceptance like most Americans are these days. When rock band first came out, not only did it have it's problems with its controllers, well that's actually about it=P However, Guitar Hero has had much better playlist in my mind besides the hilarious song from our good friends of South Park.
Also, by calling Guitar Hero an "imitator" is quite funny to see since Rock band's main element of the game was to "strum and push a button" (looks like Guitar Hero to me) "sing into a mic and match the pitch" (Looks exactly like singstar... huh) in fact, the only good thing I've heard about Rock band, which they did exceptionally well in, was the Drum Set. which still breaks and falls apart as easily as the Democratic Primaries.
Multiplayer, however, is where Rock Band truly wins. Though playing Through the Fire and the Flames on expert on "pro face-off" against this ten yr old kid really got me excited, I'd much rather bang on my drums all day, while watching my friend yell vehemently into a microphone and watch that same ten year old kid get bored with the guitar part because of the huge difference in difficulty. and ya, sorry for the long comment. It's just annoying to see people call the "imitator" the creator of the Instrument games... I'm looking at you Rock Band, your not so pure +

Are you an idiot or are you just trolling around? Either way, look up Drum Mania, Guitar Freaks, Karaoke Revolution, and even Amplitude and Frequency to see who the real imitator is. By the way, I didn't even think it was possible for a company (Harmonix) to imitate itself. Well if they are, let me tell you something, They are some tremendous imitators.

If anything, the guitar idea was stolen from Guitar Freaks, and the drum idea was stolen from Drum Mania, and the band from the arcade versions which hook up to each other. But hell, they also play a lot differently.

Next time you have to bad mouth a company with a terrible combination of politics, put away the keyboard, and get educated before you speak.

I think that Rock Band was and is a copy of GH. For the simple fact that although they worked on GH1 together the only thing that Rock Band did was basically add drums and other things. Im all for GH4 and can't wait for it to come out.
