Rumor: The Darkness sequel looking likely after NY Comic Con panel
Like rummaging through celebrity trash for the latest gossip, it often makes us chuckle as to where new video game news emerges, something only reinforced by last weekend's New York Comic Con. Buried beneath action figures, cosplayers, and that Super Girl Barbie we absolutely must have, came word of an upcoming sequel to last year's comic-inspired FPS The Darkness.
The news was unleashed during a discussion panel with American comic company and The Darkness publisher TOP COW, during which (according to comic blog The Quarter Bin) it was said: "We can't say Darkness and video game sequel in the same sentence. So, Darkness. Wink. Sequel." While hardly an absolute confirmation, the news is enough to make our stomach rumble with a hunger that only hearts will quell.

Yes,YES!!
They should do Spawn after this one.I really felt like reading the comic after completing the game too bad I don't visit comic stores anymore since my..*sniff...days playing yu-gi-oh and Magic the gathering.

Whoo hoo! I'd love that, I thought that was a great game. Being that I just finished it, and saw the ending, I'm wondering where the heck the story would pick up in the sequel?
PojoMofo @ Apr 21st 2008 11:55AM
I agree the Darkness is sequel-worthy, above average shooter IMO.

DARKNESS! EVERYBODY DARKNESS IS SPREADING!

I agree, I loved The Darkness. Only two parts I hated. First one being the part where you have to find the hill (players know what I'm talking about), the other one being when the game essentially goes into autodrive at the very end.
I still think the tunnel car chase was among the best scenes in gaming I'd ever clumsily fired a shotgun during...
nerrrrrrd @ Apr 21st 2008 12:01PM
agreed. that part was awesome. game was great as long as you didn't try to play online.
Mr.ESC @ Apr 21st 2008 12:16PM
Find the hill.
That part was great,it was really a mind **** since even if you thought you were going foward you were going to another direction also that the never ending enemies added some suspense and the lighting effects plus well I really don't want to spoil this part but it was just plain great.I think it was pretty damn memorable.
Sir Fidlious Wong (Zeon Defense Force) @ Apr 21st 2008 12:20PM
When I first started my quest, I thought it was awesome. Then I got lost and wandered for a bit. Then I stumbled across the hill and ones you got the item (spoilers removed, just because people NEED to play this game), the fog cleared and I saw WHY I got lost. Lost bastards littered the area with "red herring" geometry...
So because I got lost in the fog with monsters, I tend to hate that sequence.

I rented The Darkness. I thought it would be great but ended up being just average. I Think that game could've been a great one, but fell short for some reason. Something was missing.
I would definitely take a look at a sequel.
Mr.ESC @ Apr 21st 2008 12:21PM
If you never managed to pass the first episode eff you it gets even more awesome after part 2 but if you ask me it was quickly overshadowed by Bioshock.
One of the problems was that when you get all the Darkness powers the game becomes a cake walk.
Yet I loved the prince of Persia tribute in Part 3.
Cyro @ Apr 21st 2008 1:02PM
I did finish the game. You are right. It does get too easy at the end.
FOXHOUND @ Apr 21st 2008 12:13PM
Though it hasn't been mentioned... I wouldn't mind seeing another interactive TV show in the sequel too, LOL. I sat through the demo alone, watching that doofy Popeye cartoon. XD
Sir Fidlious Wong (Zeon Defense Force) @ Apr 21st 2008 12:16PM
I know what you mean. I was trying to break into the police station and managed to find a television playing Flash Gordon. Before I knew it, it was two hours later.....
That was definately a cool feature. And Emperor Mings daught is fucking HAWWWWT.
Mr.ESC @ Apr 21st 2008 12:26PM
I didn't know you could watch the whole episode. I watched the tv's but just swap the channels I never stayed enough to watch the whole thing.
I'm playing it again today I need 5 achievements to complete the game.
Finish it in Hard and Collect all the stuff are the only achievements left in single player mode.
Anyone feels like doing a boosting match I need the "Win 50,100 and 250 matches" achievements.
Sir Fidlious Wong (Zeon Defense Force) @ Apr 21st 2008 2:16PM
Well, don't know about the 360 version but according to the devs, BluRay allowed them to throw over 17 hours of TV programming on the PS3 version. So yes, if you wanted too, you could watch the entire film To Kill A Mockingbird, with Jenny.
I think they had either 6 or 8 Flash Gordon episodes, though. It certainly wasn't the full series.
deddyluger @ Apr 21st 2008 12:33PM
Nice. Really dug the first one. What's up with the remake of Riddick?
Drago Dracini @ Apr 21st 2008 12:43PM
This was a great game. O.O I realy hope this happens... preferably with more interaction with the comics. Like his shadow armor and such.
Vcize @ Apr 21st 2008 1:04PM
A-W-E-S-O-M-E.
This game was way underrated. The end of chapter 1 was one of the craziest and most emotionally entrenching scenes I've ever seen in a videogame. Most movies don't even do that kind of scene that well.
DrNicodemus @ Apr 21st 2008 2:16PM
Cool, this game deserves a sequel. The Darkness was a very underrated single player experience. I wish they had left the multiplayer out entirely and just added some more single player to the game.
Lakewell @ Apr 21st 2008 3:18PM
A sequel would be great. I'm hoping this time they skip the multiplayer and put that time into the single player.
burgerbat @ Apr 21st 2008 3:32PM
The Darkness was a bad game. It came during a glut of superior shooters, and was overlooked for a reason. It had the most horrible hit detection of any shooter on the 360, on which I played it. The Darkness powers were utilized poorly and were mostly unresponsive after the three-second "summoning" animation. IMO, game was utter trash that should stay in the can.
Casey @ May 21st 2008 6:43PM
I agree a sequel would be awesome! That game was underrated just because of the multiplayer! The plot is awesome but unresolved... And yes, there are a lot of things the plot doesn't resolve, mainly about the Darkness itself. So quit saying it's over. I want the animation and graphics cleaned up a little bit, though.
DARKNESS FTW!!!!!
