Silent Hill V now 'Homecoming,' dated for September
When you're a blogger and you don't have a lot of facts to go on, one of your greatest tools is hypothesizing, or as it's more commonly known, guessing. For example: Konami has announced that Silent Hill V has been retitled Silent Hill: Homecoming. Now, we don't know the reason for the change, but we're going to hypothesize that people were uncomfortable with an American-developed game that appears to be a departure from previous Silent Hills being one of the main, numbered series. See what we did there? That was just guessing.
They also say that the game will be out in Europe at the end of September. We're going to hypothesize that it will also arrive in America around that same time, but honestly we have no idea. [Update: Hypothesis correct!] Feel free to offer your slightly less authoritative hypotheses about the name change below.

Probably on the money.
The series WAS in need of a revamp, I just dont know if the development team went the right way around it.

I love the silent hill franchise....It one of the scariest games out their now. The first silent hill is still IMO the scariest game of all time.

I think its more likely that this is a spin off of the silent hill series targeted at pre-teen girls.
It takes place in silent hill before any of the current wierdness had started. Its much like the sims only it focuses around winning the title of homecomming queen. You'll need to create a theme for homecomming and by using the revolutionary paper mache engine to design props to go along with it.
Use your influence as the most popular girl on campus to secure the votes you need to achieve homecomming queen of Silent Hill.
I mean it seems obvious.

I'm pretty sure this one will just be experimental, but I bet the sequel, Silent Hill: Senior Prom will be awesome.

Maybe we get to play as a zombie who tries to explain his condition to his parents?

There were some elements of 4 that I really enjoyed a great deal. However it got sooooo draaaawwwwnnn out and boring, I really hope this one recovers.
Mr.ESC @ Apr 21st 2008 12:10PM
SH4 was a spin off but it seems it counts in the official timeline.
SH4 had some good things but then it got so damn weird and ridiculous yet never scary that I felt I was playing courage the cowardly dog lol.
Seriously WTH with the giant asparagus?

We are going back to high school.

This game certainly looks good, but that subtitle makes this game sound like some kind of high-school reunion.

I agree with Markez, They need to add more content to these games, not just make you do 2 hours worth of fetch-quest type puzzle solving to maximize your time in one area.
Silent hill Origins was HORRIBLE at this
Mr.ESC @ Apr 21st 2008 12:04PM
Actually I enjoyed Silent hill origins; it was great on the PSP. The developers replicated the formula as best as they could but they forgot 2 important things:
1-Silent Hill games are never about the same thing, so trying to do a SH is harder than it looks since is about suspense and surprise and trying to make the ending as thrilling as possible.
2-Origins was pretty much a tribute to the series rather than a SH game mostly because they forgot to add something to the formula.
Now for the complain part:
Well the enemies in Origins were harder than most enemies in the SH series and the numb bodies were more annoying this time around but while the enemies were harder this time the bosses were a piece of cake and the fight against the butcher was anticlimactic at best.
The durability of most weapons sucked but is balanced by the fact that there aren’t that many enemies yet there are so many weapons that is hard to be get scared. In all survivals games part of the formula is give the character cool weapons but not enough ammo to use them but in the case of origins is the first time I had Full Ammo for all weapons in a SH game.
The soundtrack wasn’t very memorable and that’s just unforgivable for a SH game.
Even so SH: Origins is still recommendable. One of the best PSP games I’ve played.

Also that Teavis story wasn't all that good,it was resolved too quickly.
I think the main problem is that the game was too quick for most of us,I still want moar.
Scott @ Apr 21st 2008 12:45PM
I'm guessing it's a remake of the original.
I haven't read anything about this game so if they already said it's entireley new, please be gentle.
LaughingTarget @ Apr 21st 2008 12:53PM
From what I heard, this is a whole new game. Going to have a character semi-competent at combat, not some guy that is more afraid of a 9mm than of the faceless nurse trying to stab him.

Ugh. Homecoming? Really? I'd rather they just left it at SH V. Unless this means the original team will be working on a proper SH V, but will anyone still care by then? I used to love the Silent Hill series but I've been so out of touch with it lately I almost forgot where was another one being made.
Demaar @ Apr 21st 2008 11:45PM
I think it has to do with this new trend of marketing goons thinking Americans are too scared of sequels or whatever.
Some fool on some podcast (I forget which) was arguing against Fallout 3 having the 3 on the end because it'll do nothing for the game except scare people (or whatever). Don't seem to recall that happening to GTA3.
Also there's the matter of Hotshots golf.
Sisco @ May 8th 2008 5:29PM
Well, it is supposed to be about this guy that just came home from the war...coming home...homecoming..?
just a guess
