Xbox Live: Scheduled maintenance complete [Update]

Update: Major Nelson updated his initial post letting XBL users know that the tech team is aware of some issues with the rolling restarts. They are looking into the situation. Again, we ask that you be patient and just think about all the dudes you'll be shooting on April 29.

According to Major Nelson, the scheduled maintenance for Xbox Live that left the service offline since early this morning is complete. Before you fashion your trendiest riot clothes and pitchforks we'd like to remind you that while the service maintenance is complete users may experience rolling restarts around the globe. As an example, the service has restarted for our own Dustin Burg but has left this Canadian out in the cold (see what I did there?) with connection issues.

If you are experiencing connection issues we ask that you be patient before flooding our inbox with "ZOMG, they broked Live" news tips. Looking for something to do? May we suggest checking out X3F TV! While our Nielsen ratings aren't anything to write home about, we can at least assure you our gaming related videos are more entertaining than watching anything that Spike TV does with this industry in mind.

any idea what kind of maintenance they did? maybe something along the lines of fixing the recent lag?

Personally I think it might have something to do with GTAIV that's hitting stores next week.

Preparing for that onslaught.

GTA IV is kinda what I thought, I think they did the same thing a week or so before Halo 3 If I remember correctly.

I thought the same thing when I heard about this, Xav.

i hope so, i have been having the weirdest lag recently.
its weird my connection will drop in the middle of games and stuff like that. its getting really old

I'm not planning on touching the GTA multiplayer until I finish the single player anyway so hopefully by then the servers will mellow out.

I keep getting disconnected from Live. I can immediately reconnect, but then 5-10 minutes later, I get knocked off again.

I saw what you did there, but the 22+ degree weather outside in T.O. begs to differ.

Still messed up here in UK, another great job MS. And yeah, I think it's pretty obvious that the 'maintenance' is for GTA IV, because if there's an outage like the COD4 incident, people will not be happy at all.

I'm having some issues over here in England. I can log in and it tells me I have friends online but on the dash it says "Connect to Xbox Live", I cannot see the Marketplace or use the guide button.

Its almost 3:00 on the east coast (D.C.) and still can't acess COD4 no ative network?

So Mr. Hryb she's not fixed yet, needs a little more time in the shop. Gotta mail order a part from the Ukraine.

As usual MS has done a crappy job with the maintenance. Usually, there would be a delay for a few more hours than initially planned but this time around, they bought Live up on time but never fixed the problem that usually causes the delays! Ha!

then how come all my other friends are playing happily?

this update sucks i cant play anymore takes me out and say unable to connect even i can go into market place and download stuff can some pls fix this!!!!!

The update made it so D-bags have trouble getting online.

Actually, I've heard it's in preparation for GTA.

Tip for people playing COD4, go to join session in progress, matchmaking seems to be down.

The update fixed it so you can't sign on to Live, so everybody will buy and play GTA4 in single player.

My friend is online, and it shows I have 6 friends online actively playing games, but I get a rolling connection.

My friend lives a few blocks away from me.

No i been getting the random disconnects too. i dunno why but its annoying as hell.

Freakin ghey, after I connect I have like 5 seconds to check my friends list and then it immediately disconnects. Apparently 7 of my friends are not having this problem.

exact same thing, i dont understand what makes these people so special.

Europe would like a day of XBL back Microsoft. You kindly charged us for it and then took it down from 9am to oh, it's 9:30pm now and it's still not up right.

Surree didn't affect me till i got home but all the same bloody annoying.

What the f**k xbox cancelled my 3month gold membership after only 2 months.Any 1 no whats going on and how to fix it

WTF? The downloaded update screwed up Gears of War. I cannot play it in any of the settings (campaign or XBL). Are you kidding me, MS?

im trying to play halo. so i go to lobby and clikc "start matchmaking". sount down gets to 0 then freezes, on 0. also, i cant invite people to my games, and cant join any sessions in progress. is this the same problem as you guys? dang

sure is !!! cant find games, cant start games, cant join games then all my mates seem to be playing games i cant join :(

Every time we have extended outages I get reminded of how much I am sick of Microsoft and their DRM on the Arcade titles. If they don't get this DRM crap fixed these outages are finally going to trigger a successful Class Action lawsuit. I want to be able to access my paid for content even if their service can't connect to my system.

I want MS to answer me now when am I going to be able to have my XBL up and running and able to play it
