I have a friend who insists this game is not as bad as everyone says. I'm still quite weary though. I already have Oblivion, does this one really offer much of anything different to substantiate a first glance?

Not really. The game is bugged out the rear, the story is incomprehensible, the voice acting stinks and it plays badly.

Its a mildly entertaining game if you don't compare it to Oblivion. Its not nearly as bad as people have made it out to be - though there are lots off goofy problems with it. Either way, its worth playing just to laugh at the voice work.

Unfairly compared to Oblivion? Any new game that comes out, should surpass things that have been done in the past...In my opinion, there is no such thing as an unfair comparison...

Games aren't made in a vacuum. All games are judged by the ones that have come before.

"With the original idea, we were all so excited to be working on an RPG, that we tried to fit in every idea we had, even the ones that came late in the process. Ultimately, this hurt the end product in that it had parts that were underdeveloped."

In the industry this is considered a pretty n00bish mistake.

Didn't the developers themselves compare two worlds to Oblivion during the prerelease hype?

[+] for you sir. Very good call.

From an interview with Eurogamer...

Dirk Hassinger: "Two Worlds may seem to be in the Oblivion template, but the two games are very different once you get beyond the surface. Two Worlds offers a more focused, grittier experience - and a lot of correlating features are deeper in it. Our inventory system is smarter, our magic system is much more complex, and even the way we handle horses has more depth. Beyond those game mechanics we have a much more complex society, with many more factions working within it. Our overarching storyline is a touch darker and more involved, too. Which is not to say Oblivion is a worse game, just that Two Worlds has more 'meat'."

So, let me get this straight.

It's not fair that one game gets compared to another game from the same genre?

Perhaps we should apply this logic to everything.

I think my net worth gets unfairly compared to that of Bill Gates.

When a game like Oblivion sets the standard, it is absolutely fair to be compared to it.

This is basically like the developer saying...

"Well, we can't ALL make amazing games, come on guys, you just have to buy some crappy ones from time to time and deal with it."

Aaaaagreed. Anyone who has played Oblivion would want to know how it compares to it anyway. Maybe they should have included other games in comparison, but if none of them do things the same way, then it absolutely is fair.

"I can't say for sure, but I suspect that it was unfairly compared to Oblivion?"

Wouldn't it be more unfair to pretend that really great games like Oblivion didn't exist for the sake of propping up the not-so-great games?

They say they tried to incorporate so many ideas, but the game is not who can pitch the best idea. People may sell a premise, but consumers will only buy it (and like it) if there's a solid game behind the premise.

They have no one to blame but themselves.

It was unfairly compared to Oblivion. Oblivion did everything 100 times better than two worlds. What are these guys on anyway?

I wouldn't be surprised if volition comes out next saying they think saint's row is being unfairly compared to GTA

I'm willing to give this a shot.

For the $30 I paid for the first iteration it was mildly entertaining and had some easy achievements (you know, the ones that would actually unlock...)

They have already proven that they can mislead us, though, so a rental will come first.

I found it fun enough, I didn't find the few bugs all that bad, but the voice acting and writing was pretty god offal. Though to say what Dirk Hassinger said in that interview is total shit, Oblivion was better no question but 2Worlds has it's place.

Has that interviewee forgotten that there were multiple comparisons to oblivion made ON THE BOX?! it had a checklist on the back of all the features it had compared to oblivion!

Letting that bit go, you still have the fact that the game was practically unplayable, and after many hours i still couldn't even get my horse to go the direction I wanted it to. Two Worlds is by far the worst game I've ever played on the 360, so maybe it would have been more fairly compared to Big Rigs.

Nothing will ever be as good as Oblivion; not Two Worlds, not Bioshock, not Gears of War or Call of Duty 4... not Zelda or Halo or Mario or anything that recieved a GOTY award in 2006 or 2007... because Oblivion isn't just game of the year... it's game of the decade!

Unless I'm mistaken, this game was called the "Oblivion killer" before its release, because many people (myself included) were unsatisfied with the overall experience of Oblivion (god DAMN that level scaling!)

If anything, these guys should be happy that it wasn't unfavorably compared to another lackluster, broken German RPG... Gothic 3. I was extremely disappointed with that game after the fantastic experience that Gothic 2 was, and Two Worlds paled in comparison even to that steaming pile of crap.

This game was so terrible it caused me to cancel my online Blockbuster account and switch to Netflix. I rented the game, played it for about an hour, couldn't believe how incredibly brokenand just straight up terrible it was - and then brought it back to Blockbuster, where they told me I couldn't - for some unbelievably ridiculous reason - just swap it out for a different Xbox360 game, even though it was the same price and I had just rented it that day. I practically threw the game at the loser behind the counter, who asked me if I was sure I didn't want to keep it for the remainder of the rental and I responded, "I don't want that piece of sh** anywhere near me, thanks." I then went home and cancelled my blockbuster account, which was overpriced and always sending me marred movie discs anyhow. THANKS NETFLIX! THANKS TWO WORLDS!

Fun fact: I got myself Oblivion several weeks ago, but I hadn't even opened the box.

It's not because I don't want to play it, but it's because I estimate the vortex being so strong that it's going to suck my life away, along with my school work.

But seriously guys, you can find it for 30 bucks now.
