As our coverage continues on the second mega-release this year, Best Buy has posted its list of midnight store openings for the Grand Theft Auto IV launch. We've placed the list after the break, and the Best Buy site has maps to the locations for those who need it.
We don't have explicit details how the Best Buy midnight launch should go -- like we do for Wal-Mart -- but it's best to show up early Monday evening. Plus, the company states that there'll be "Grand Theft Auto-related giveaways, but quantities will be limited." And just to prove how non-highfalutin of a site we really are, this blogger will be standing in line at the Dedham, Mass., store taking pics and waiting to get his copy just like everyone else.

Mine isn't doing anything, but I don't want to stand in line in the middle of the night anyway. Not to mention that I've got a final the following afternoon. Not that I couldn't skip the final and still pass. You know banana has mad educational skillz right? Right? Aww balls, who am I kidding.

Normally I wouldn't think twice, but based on your other comments I assume you're not among the target audience for this BBuy promotion?

Makes me wonder if there is a title that is ever actually worth preordering. This game will be available in abundance everywhere. Reminds me of when I happened by midnight release of one of the last few Maddens after being out for the night. Roommate walked right up to the desk and bought it, meanwhile all the preorder folks had to wait in a silly long line.

You weren't trying to find a copy of Dead Rising the 1st week or two were you? Trust me, better to preorder than be left in the dust.

Ah, I remember the great Dead Rising drought of aught-six! I must have gone 5 places before I finally found the damn thing! When I got it, the guy at the Circuit City was like "What the hell is this game anyway? You're like the 50th person that's asked for it today!" All I could say was, "Zombies, dude."

Waiting these last 6 days out is going to be excruciating. Doesn't help that I just cracked and watched one of the gameplay leaks (yes it looks unbelievable in action) and now I feel kinda shitty :(
Release the damn thing already >.

Yea I don't quite understand the whole preorder thing unless you're buying a special edition of some sort.
I remember when Halo 2 and Halo 3 came out and everyone was like "OMG PREORDER OR YOU WON'T GET IT ON LAUNCH DAY". I didn't preorder and was able to walk into Futureshop both times and pick it up no problem.
Until games start selling out on launch day I will not be preordering anything.

I personally live nearby the local university, so a lot of stores in the area sell out amazingly fast. And with gas prices these days, driving to the otherside of town in an unfamiliar area is too high of a risk. Thus, a preorder.
I admit it - I'm envious you're able to snag them easily. :)

And that day that it's not there when you walk in, you will say "f**k!"
I'm not doing either though. I hoping I'll get it through gamefly so I can buy it at a discount price. I'll get it a few days late but hopefully I'll be busy with Mario Kart until then.

@Nato.
I hear ya. I never waited on line at midnight for a game.
I have picked up games on their release date.
I recall going to Gamestop for GOW2 just to be turned away because I didn't preorder. drove across the street to Best buy and there it was.

I've been on the edge for the game for a while. Just wondering if would be worth buying now or just an eventual rental down the road. I was never really into the GTA games. I never got really hyped up for this, but after seeing the gameplay footage in the earlier post I'm now sold on it. Do you think I will actually have to pre-order the game to get a copy on tuesday, or do you think I have a good shot at walking into Best Buy, Circuit City, or Walmart and grabbing a copy?

I'm pretty sure this will come over to PC laster in the year, that version will have the ultimate DLC! User created cars, models, etc. just like in the other PC GTA games.
I hope the 360 and PS3 versions will also get DLC cars, weapons and other goodies. Better not be any horse armor crap either!

None of them are near me...that sucks...
But then again I really didn't plan on going to a midnite launch to begin with.

Well, I pre-ordered through Gamestop, so it won't be a problem for me, but kinda shocks me that not a single store in Pennsylvania will open at midnight for the game.

Ditto to that, even if I am getting it at Gamestop.

The only things I have ever seen to be in short supply are consoles. The games are always there, unless you live in BFE that only has a Wal-Mart. There's areas in Northern Virginia where you can spin in a circle and see Best Buy, Circuit City, Wal-Mart, Target, a couple GameStops, and even GameCrazy. I think if you squint you might even see a Blockbuster. So I'm not worried at all. I preordered anyway, but of the free schwag, not because I don't think I won't get the game. I'll probably be off work all next week for the birth of my daughter anyway...

My local GameStop is in a mall, so it's still not known whether or not they'll be allowed to do a midnight launch. My GTA IV is already paid for, but I'd love to be able to start playing at 12:01 AM (well, more like 12:15 AM, I guess).
I'm unwillingly unemployed. I guess GTA IV will be my "job" for a while until the market opens up and someone hires me. Stupid college kids take all the retail jobs in town... GO HOME COLLEGE KIDS!
