In case you didn't get a chance to pick up
the first issue of the
Dead Space comic (or maybe you can't read ... in which case, what are you doing here?), they've just released an animated version and, we've got to say, it's got our attention. While it's a known fact that the entire staff of Joystiq suffers from a rare disease whose only symptom is intense concentration when presented with a combination of foul language and severed torsos – both present in the first installment tucked away safely after the break – we think we'd be interested regardless, disease be damned.
It's got that creepy space horror aesthetic they've been promising, along with a healthy dose of creepy space zealots and creepy space obelisks. We're sure the next five issues will add appropriate amounts of creepy space paranoia and, of course, creepy space monsters. After all that, we'll get the feature-length
fully animated Dead Space prequel which picks up right where the comic lets off. After that? We presume the actual video game. EA better hope there's enough meat on these bones.

Wow! In the words of Justin McElroy - Color me intrigued!
Seriously, that was really cool. And well put together, at that. Is this game going to be good?

Jeez, whenever I see a post about "Dead Space" I always seem to read "Dead Air Space" and get super excited, and am always let down.
However this is sexy too, not Dear Air Space sexy, but sexy in it's own right.

Intriguing, I hadn't seen a lot about this, but I had not expected some crazy future religion to play into it.

Exactly my thought. I hope the game's plot is as complex as this little prequel action would make it seem. Scary + Good Plot = Awesome?

What is Starslip Crisis' Spine of all Cosmos doing in Dead Space?

If I were to compare this to most books and movies, this would just be god-awful: weak dialogue, stereotypical characters, and pitiful attempts to make it "macho" by adding lots of curse words and gore
....but
As far as most games go, this has me intrigued. Most games have awful story-line that couldn't pass for a 4$ Airport novella, that simply aren't up to par with other forms of "art" (before I get flamed, both books and movies had this problem in their first 30 years too). The religious overtones weren't something I expected from the game, so that makes me a little curious, and I like that they are attempting to do a little something more with the story than just shove one into all the blood and guts.

God that's awful. Sorry, guys, but that voice-acting... wow. Cast directly from the local community theatre, I guess.
Ben Templesmith is pretty awesome but... Yikes. I still couldn't sit through much of that. I hope the in-game dialogue won't be that hammy. "We cuss a lot to show that we're hard-as-nails badasses! Aren't you intimidated?" No, actually.
I love Event Horizon, and the game sounded cool before... Hopefully the actual game won't be so cheesy.
