EA bringing Monopoly to 360, Wii, PS2

This is apparently a sped-up version of the original game, with some new interactive minigames thrown in. We hope we can use waggle to hammer eviction notices to the doors of our slums. But that's just us. Oh, and just so we can cut this discussion off at the pass: No, there's no PS3 version announced. We trust PS3 owners can scrounge up $12.99, directions to their local Toys 'R' Us and a tabletop without our aid.

Monopoly + EA = a match made in heaven
Co @ Apr 23rd 2008 9:52AM
I was thinking more along the lines of HELL, but sure.
Bleu @ Apr 23rd 2008 12:03PM
(clears throat) FUCK EA!.....That is all!
THE WICKER MAN (BWF) (GT: Dalek Prime) @ Apr 23rd 2008 12:24PM
Wow a common sense move by EA! Lets see uno sells well on XBLA...could other games...ugh we guess!? Its about time.
arrakisman @ Apr 23rd 2008 5:35PM
So rather than purchasing streets of Atlantic City, do you get to buy up Publishing studios. Let me guess Board Walk = Maxis and EA Sports = Park Place.
Josh @ Apr 23rd 2008 9:37AM
Bravo!
koehler83 @ Apr 23rd 2008 9:40AM
EA can keep their monopoly.
Kye - Joystiq Greybeard @ Apr 23rd 2008 11:00AM
They really are trying to get a monopoly on the gaming market aren't they? (pun optional)
SoulBlade @ Apr 23rd 2008 9:41AM
Online too? This should definitely be marketed heavily to parents who want to spend some time w/ their kids who are away from home. I'd get it if the family could play together from three different locations.
Zertoss @ Apr 23rd 2008 9:44AM
"...every game ended after four hours with the board being flipped and somebody (usually Chris) getting punched in the face"
I didn't realize Ludwig had anger management issues.
konajinx @ Apr 23rd 2008 10:37AM
I didn't realize he thought Dane Cook was actually funny.
kevinski @ Apr 23rd 2008 9:52AM
Wow, thank God that we can now play Monopoly on $399+ video game consoles! Honestly, the idea of a board game on a video game console is just ridiculous now.
Kye - Joystiq Greybeard @ Apr 23rd 2008 11:02AM
Yeah, but it's so much easier to set up and pack away.
Plus you never loose any pieces.
Kye - Joystiq Greybeard @ Apr 23rd 2008 12:40PM
Damnit, once again I confuse 'loose' and 'lose'!

ThePremierAssassin @ Apr 23rd 2008 9:53AM
Wow EA doesn't even think the ps3 is worthy of a generic Monopoly game...
BURN....
Ninjakamster @ Apr 23rd 2008 10:05AM
Its really sad when you don't masterbate to hot chicks on ze internet PremierAsshole but instead to any negative news regarding the PS3, just ejaculate all over the computer desk. Its just really really really really pathetic man. You just have to stop and do something now.
Esat Dedezade @ Apr 23rd 2008 10:25AM
Ninja, I don't even wanna know how you know that.
I really, really don't.
o_O
ThePremierAssassin @ Apr 23rd 2008 11:03AM
lmao....
that was hilarious...but only cuz it implies you get off watching me screw it sony every chance I get...
Nigeria - MK: 0430-8491-9123 @ Apr 23rd 2008 11:14AM
Ninja, you really liked those photos I sent you, didn't you.
Jonah Falcon @ Apr 23rd 2008 9:54AM
XBLA or retail?
PojoMofo @ Apr 23rd 2008 10:10AM
since its coming to other platforms and its EA, Im guessing retail.
So you can have your Monopoly disk case right inbetween COD4 and Condemed 2.
todd @ Apr 23rd 2008 9:57AM
Yes, now WHEN? 2010 knowing how things work at MS, if on XBLA.
xFenixKnightx @ Apr 23rd 2008 10:06AM
SUHWEET! I love Monopoly :D
EA...not so much =/
Phranctoast @ Apr 23rd 2008 10:20AM
Your comment gave me a Borat flashback.
xFenixKnightx @ Apr 23rd 2008 10:30AM
Very Nice! King of the Castle!! =P
ScottG13 @ Apr 23rd 2008 10:07AM
Oh the irony.
FOXHOUND @ Apr 23rd 2008 10:15AM
I'm reminded of that old Joe Pesci movie("The Super")every time someone buys the violet properties - Baltic and Mediterranean avenues.
As for the game itself, I'm kinda surprised it didn't hit the handhelds over the consoles. But as someone stated earlier... paying anything over $12-15 for this isn't worth it when you can just get the board game or travel versions.
Dale @ Apr 23rd 2008 10:21AM
Ignoring the cynic in me, a Monopoly video game with a selection of different boards, online and local multiplayer, and mini-games could be fun.
Next step: Scrabble for Wii using DSes as controllers so each player's pieces are invisible to other players'.
Nicholas Sulikowski @ Apr 23rd 2008 10:24AM
Oh man...oh man, why didn't I think of that earlier?
Jonah Falcon @ Apr 23rd 2008 10:28AM
That was already released: Monopoly Party
http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/m/monopolyparty/details.page/default.htm
BigD145 @ Apr 23rd 2008 3:27PM
The DS already has Scrabble.
PojoMofo @ Apr 23rd 2008 10:30AM
Price point will be the biggest factor. Will anyone pay $20 for this??
Meloche @ Apr 23rd 2008 10:31AM
I remember playing Monopoly on my PS1...
...in 1998.
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Apr 23rd 2008 10:37AM
Fuck yeah!!! Now instead of flipping the board when I lose, I can simply throw a wiimote at someone's face. THANKS EA!!!
Tim The Enchanter @ Apr 23rd 2008 12:35PM
Lol... or flip the TV. Infinitely more painful.
konajinx @ Apr 23rd 2008 10:38AM
Relax, PS3 owners! You can still play th turdtastic PS2 game "Monopoly Party" on your consoles! Oh wait...maybe some of you can't even do that. Oh, well.
Mike @ Apr 23rd 2008 10:39AM
Why can't it just be a straight up version of Monopoly on XBLA? This sounds lame.
samfish @ Apr 23rd 2008 10:42AM
Shovelware on the 360?! But the 360 isn't the Wii!
Gaming is DOOMED!
PojoMofo @ Apr 23rd 2008 10:44AM
you dont think the 360 has shovelware???? that must be a pretty big rock you live under.
samfish @ Apr 23rd 2008 10:58AM
You wouldn't think it reading some of the comments 'round these parts.
But thanks for missing the point!
ThePremierAssassin @ Apr 23rd 2008 11:12AM
@ samfish
I get your point and I love my Wii as much as the next gamer but you have to admit that unlike the 360 it seems like the ratio between shovelware to quality games on the Wii is significantly higher on the Wii.
Sure there are a few random wtf games on the 360 but the sheer amount of bs games that comes to the Wii each week is hilarious.
Plus even if the 360 had the amount of shovelware the Wii had it ALSO has an EQUAL amount of high caliber/high quality games that have been released already and that will be released in the future.
Bottom line is that Nintendo's console is once again a ship loaded with cartfuls of random fugly stones with a few hidden and very precious gems scattered throughout the cargo bay.
Hence why I own one and why I support it despite the lackluster online and other features that grind my gears...
Zertoss @ Apr 23rd 2008 11:52AM
facepalm
That's all I can add to this. Oh and I lol'd at Samfish.
Anni @ Apr 23rd 2008 12:44PM
Fun experiment: Joystiq could reprint this article, but remove all references to 360 and PS2.
Comment section GOLD!
Vegeta (aka Ska Oreo) @ Apr 23rd 2008 3:35PM
Dude what? Monopoly is fucking awesome.
PojoMofo @ Apr 23rd 2008 10:43AM
There better be a "hide all $500 bills under the board" option. That was always my favorite thing to do.
Kye - Joystiq Greybeard @ Apr 23rd 2008 11:06AM
Secret stash! FTW!
I know someone who always has like 3 or 4 secret stashes.
It's always funny when they want to buy somewhere & think they can't afford it, then remember their stash when it's too late.
PojoMofo @ Apr 23rd 2008 12:36PM
AH yes, that is the potential downfall, you have to keep track of your stashes!!
Charles @ Apr 23rd 2008 11:09AM
Only if this was on WiiWare would I consider buying it...
Silversmith @ Apr 23rd 2008 11:33AM
FINALLY!!! IF EA and Parker Brothers better do this right and make this XBLA and Wii Ware this will explode like UNO.
konajinx @ Apr 23rd 2008 11:38AM
Great, does this mean that the official forums for the game at xbox.com will be filled with requests for people to play "adult" Monopoly over their cams, just like there was for Uno?
Yeahhhh...nothing better than getting naked with total strangers online while trying to pay the mortgage on Baltic.
