The PlayStation Blog twisted our perceptions today with the announcement that an Echochrome demo will be contorting PSN tomorrow. Of course, enterprising individuals have already played the demo via the intertubes, but here's the opportunity for us less tech savvy plebs to get in on (a sample of) the Echochrome fun.
Prepare to savor every MC Escher inspired level of the demo for now. There's still no actual date for the full version of Echochrome, but it's apparently due sometime in May.

Honestly, looks like it would get frustrating very quickly and have little to no replay value. I could be wrong, but that's just my impression based on the videos I've seen. Shame too, since the PSP (to which it's being ported also) could really use another good puzzler. Lumines can not be played forever.

But is there really that much variation among them? It seems like there's only so many level concepts you could come up with, at least without getting really confusing. Of course, I'm sure some people would like it to be really confusing.

yo know i thought about this too when i was playing the PSP demo. now i dont agree with you that PSP doesnt have puzzlers but i do agree that Echochrome looks fun but looks to have little to no replay value. if memory serves, they are selling it for like $10 which isnt bad but we will probably need some DLC is the game is any good. the PSP demo was fun but i could see this game getting very frustrating.

I bought this from Asian PSN, the control is more comfortable than the PSP version. The game is quite difficult, I got stuck even in early stages. And some mechanics don't work very well, like that linking two blocks together requires very accurate positioning. But it's very good for killing brain cells:)

This is one of those games that I just don't get what the hype is about. Looks like something someone drew in paint(software version) to me! Anyway I guess whatever floats your boat.

It was the game I picked up with my PSP in Japan (menus are in Japanese, voice over is in English for those that can't speak Japanese so there's no issues with navigation or gameplay).
There are 12 "rows" of puzzles (A - L) with 8 puzzles per row. That's (obviously) 96 "levels".
Now, each level you can play on "Solo", "Pair" and "Other".
Solo - you direct your guy/gal around the "maze" picking up the echoes. Easiest.
Pair - two white and two black guys/gals. Got to get them both to meet. They produce a "grey" person each. Match them. BINGO!
Other - this is a trickier version of "Pair". It's the same concept but the white guys can't touch the black ones or they'll be reset. Lots of strategic thinking of putting one guy on a level out of reach from the other and moving them around in a paricular sequence.
So, 96 levels x 3 types of play = 288 "levels".
And, trust me, it's ADDICTIVE. You're also trying to beat your previous time. The game has near endless replay value and it's a lot of fun. I pretty much played it for 10 hours on the flight back from Japan.
Check it out if you can.

Oh, I should also have mentioned (and spelt "particular" correctly of course) that there's a built-in map editor so you can create your own worlds and copy them to your memory stick to become the scourge of your friends!
