SCEE confirms Grand Theft Auto IV PS3 bundle for Europe

We knew it was coming, but now we have a fancy press release in our inbox confirming it. Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has officially announced a Grand Theft Auto IV bundle "exclusively" for the PlayStation 3. As you might expect, the bundle's release will coincide with that of the carjacking, city-wrecking romp on April 29th. The €439 (RRP) package will contain a 40GB PlayStation 3, a Sixaxis controller and ... we forget what the other thing was.

packaging a console with a non exclusive title seems funny to me - I'm not specifically slamming Sony, it just seems silly.

I'm going to wholeheartedly agree with you but also point out that they realize what sells. If nests of dead baby squirrels were a "hot item" than you could count on Sony to neatly package a nest of dead baby squirrels with your Sony product. It's almost like when they sold Battlefront: Whatever with the PSP, I mean everyone loves Star Wars so it seemed universal enough to them.

I don't know, doesn't seem THAT insane of a concept. Because no matter how you look at it, both Sony and Rockstar benefit from this.

Sony's name gets associated with GTA yet again and bundles are attractive to many people although adding exclusive extra swag would really push it into keen gear. Such as some TV ads on BluRay or making ofs that are all over the net. Or hell, why not an exclusive behind the scenes book?

Rockstar essentially sells more copies because whether or not this bundle is success, they've been paid by Sony for the copies of the game.

Win win all around.

It might as well be an exclusive in Europe, the PS3 is kicking the shit out of the 360. After the price cuts, 360 sales doubled and the PS3 still outsold it.

There's no way the 360 can outsell the PS3 with the US alone. It's a piece of shit.

In the UK:
PS3: $560
360 Pro: $370
Wii: $350

i thought Microsoft was doing the same thing with the 360 version? sure it kind of defeats the purpose in most peoples eyes but some people still love bundles. people are going to want the game and there are some people who will need to buy a console to play it on, so these bundles are great for those guys. GTAIV ftw.

No, but it would be a nice incentive, seeing how you can go to Zavi's and get a PS3, GT5: Prologue, any game including GTA IV, and a bluray for the same price (as heard elsewhere on the 'net).

I suppose if you were already thinking you wanted to play GT5 or MGS4 and you didn't care to get a 360, this would be attractive.

I wouldn't really say inferior, exactly. After all, if you buy the game and pay the same ammount for each, you get the exact same game.

The 360 version, however, has the option of paying //more// money for new content, exclusive to the 360 console.

So, I wouldn't say the PS3 version of GTA is weaker than the 360 version; they're exactly the same. Rather, I would say that the 360 //console// is better to play the game on than the PS3 //console//.

Well, my point of view is this. Everyone I know in real life who is buying this game, is buying it for PS3 (well, except two), so that's one reason for the PS3 version.

I'm also currently out a 360 (although I am planning to snag an arcade here real soon... I still have all my games and hard drive from last time I owned one).

And most importantly, despite my enjoyment of those games, the only open world games I've finished are Assassin's Creed amd Saints Row. I don't think I'd MAKE it to the DLC in GTAIV.

Everyone is just speculating. Nobody even knows what the DLC is going to be. Or if the multiplayer is any better on either system. Most likely, it will be the SAME EXACT experience on both systems.

What exactly is the DLC going to be? A new map? A new chapter of the story. Some new missions? And how much will it cost? With all the fervor over this game, it's going to run at least $19.99 for any decent DLC.

Also, how "exclusive" is the DLC? Is it a timed exclusive?

Rockstar would be dumb to sign exclusive DLC that they couldn't monetize on the PS3 or PC.

I dont think its that the PS3 version will have "no DLC" it just wont have some of the exclusive DLC MS paid $50 million for.

And if MS paid $50 million for it, you better be prepared to empty your wallet for it as well.

Your right John, the PS3 is certainly more popular in Europe than in North America it seems. Its a huge market for Sony and its a shame they had delayed its release there by several months compared to the U.S and Japanese launch. Maybe they should have released it in Europe first since they like it more than we do. : /

So Microsoft paid money to advertise the 360 version of the game and Sony paid to get a PS3 bundle of the game. Yeah, I think the former was a smarter move. : /
