SCEE confirms Grand Theft Auto IV PS3 bundle for Europe
97
We knew it was coming, but now we have a fancy press release in our inbox confirming it. Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has officially announced a Grand Theft Auto IV bundle "exclusively" for the PlayStation 3. As you might expect, the bundle's release will coincide with that of the carjacking, city-wrecking romp on April 29th. The €439 (RRP) package will contain a 40GB PlayStation 3, a Sixaxis controller and ... we forget what the other thing was.

But it's a European centric article, it has European based writers and doesn't block out visitors from outside the US...

A bundle for all seasons!

There doesn't seem to be any type of discount with this bundle. What is the incentive to buy the bundle when you can get a 360pro and GTA for much cheaper
Posted: Apr 23rd 2008 10:05AM (Unverified) said
I can't help but wonder if the US price would be significantly cheaper - around the MGS4 bundle price - and this is just a typical European pricing thing.

Has he? I looked at his profile and he has three posts, two of them the same "contest" post. Oh well, he isn't killing babies, but I don't see how the parent post isn't tacky hit whoring.

I recognize his name as well. That is strange that there are only three posts.

from http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/855/855555p1.html: the PS3 version has less aliasing issues than the 360 version.
what did i tell you guys? i knew the PS3 version would have superior performance =) and i'm sure the 360 fanboy writers at IGN didnt mention all the superior traits. im still saying the PS3 version will have smoother frame rates, just like Assasin's Creed and Burnout Paradise.
free online play + superior performance FTW.

hmmm too bad the average won't give two shits about it. Man you're really desperate to find anything that can let you hate the 360.

You mean the same Assasin's Creed that needed to be patched ASAP on PS3 and the reason I have crap textures in Burnout Paradise is because the PS3 was the lead platform? Yeah. Although I am disappointed, I have no hatred for the PS3, nor do mind you expressing your love for your play experiences where you believe you will have "superior performance".
But please, keep this clean. The phrase "i'm sure the 360 fanboy writers at IGN didnt mention all the superior traits" was nothing but baiting fanboys. I am sure we will all enjoy our copies of GTA IV, but while making comments like that may be true to your feelings, they won't help the discussion unless you have proof the IGN writers were omiting pertinent information.

to Peacefuloutrage:
first off, the patch was a result of lazy programming. even some 360 games have needed patches for this very reason. it has nothing to do with performance.
second, the reason you have "crappy textures" on Burnout Paradise is because the devs used the same texture assets for both versions to cut development costs, as is the norm. if u think PS3 is inferior at textures, how did the Oblivion devs manage to match the same textures quality for the PS3 version?
the fact is, timed 360 exclusives ported to PS3 have the same texture quality on the PS3 versions as well as multiplat games (most of which use the 360 as the lead platform). you cant nonsensically declare 360 can render superior textures than PS3 can. what is apparent though is Cell can run multiplat games at smoother frame rates as has been proven with Assasin's Creed, Burnout Paradise, and i'm predicting GTA IV. and like i said before, PS3 version of GTA IV has less aliasing issues, so why dont you STFU now.

Well, if it's not GTA4 then maybe you meant 'free online play for GTA4, for as long as you want to play it online.'

Also appears that the PAL 360 version is out for torrenting.
So, since GTA4 should take up the same space on the 360's DVD and PS3's Blu-Ray disc, I guess on the PS3, the same data is repeated over and over for the laser to find? What a waste of a Blu-Ray disc!
Well, 360 games are easier to pirate than PS3 ones at least. : D
I heard the PS3 version also had a required 5 min install, I guess its not true then?

Am I the only one that thinks it's poor planning for Sony to wait til 6 days before launch to mention this? Everyone who wanted to play GTA4 already went out and bought their 360/PS3 in anticipation, right?
Posted: Apr 23rd 2008 12:01PM (Unverified) said
Dunno. If people would purchase a console mainly for GTA4 at this stage, I would presume they would buy it with the game at launch.

Uhm... I'm a gamer, for many years, who has, thus far, avoided buying either the 360 or the PS3 until now--- and I'm going for this bundle, more likely than not.
So count me as one of those theoretical "14" people who don't already have a next gen system.

Despite what some people say on this site, you certainly are not alone. The general consumer rarely posts on sites like joystiq and there are plenty of them on the fence about purchasing a system, and, like you, this bundle is just the thing to get them to take the plunge. If I hadn't already gotten a PS3, this bundle would've done it for me, just as a Gears of War 2 bundle would do it for me if I didn't already have a 360

This better be one great game if there making it with its own PS3 bundle. Madden which is the most popular videogame doesn't even have its own bundle yet

Why would you get the PS3 bundle when you only get 20 bucks off the game and the PS3. Instead you get a 120 euros cheaper but getting GTA4 + 360Pro. Hell, I think you can get the game and the PS3 cheaper if you buy them separate.

MS should act fast and make a 360 bundle like this for the States.
