Korn's Haze-inspired music assaults our ears
We were initially indifferent when first told of nu metal rockers Korn's vocal enthusiasm for Haze, or as vocalist Jonathan Davis so eloquently calls it, "the shit." However, after now exposing our ears to the band's Haze-inspired title track, we can't help but hope that the aural assault will be kept at an absolute minimum once Ubisoft pushes the game from out of the mist.
The two and a half minute scream session not withstanding, the video does show off a bevy of CG and gameplay for Free Radical's overly-yellow shooter, which is currently circled -- in pencil mind you -- on our calender for release around May 20 or so, which should be right around the time our ears stop ringing.

Anyone at all excited for this?
xFenixKnightx @ Apr 24th 2008 11:35AM
2 years ago I was =/
Demaar @ Apr 24th 2008 11:52AM
I was. This vid (surprisingly) rekindled my interest. Mostly because it reminded me about the whole nectar ability. Sure hope Free Radical can pull it off and deliver a fun and interesting shooter...
Sir Fidlious Wong (Zeon Defense Force) @ Apr 24th 2008 12:00PM
The logo on the box is enough to get me existed about this. As for the graphics complaints, when has Free Radical ever pushed that boundary?
FOXHOUND @ Apr 24th 2008 12:15PM
Chris--
Not anymore. Yes, MGS4 has also been delayed nearly as much and longer than HAZE, but at least it was to implement better features. I saw recent video of it here and two other gaming sites... and I just can't understand why it was delayed when it seemingly hasn't improved much over the same game I saw prior to purchasing THE ORANGE BOX(PC).
The reserved money to buy that, was used to get GTA IV instead. 'Nuff said.
j.howlett @ Apr 24th 2008 12:25PM
i just want to try the play dead so the people on nectar don't see you thing.
Tiptup300 @ Apr 24th 2008 3:18PM
Hey, the song truly isn't that bad. After listening to occasionally for the past few months I've found that it gets better. The beginning makes it sound like it's going to be an excellent song, up until "the right thing..." Then it kinda turns into a very mediocre song. Not nearly as amazing their other stuff.
Fernando Rocker @ Apr 24th 2008 11:28AM
Korn?
This game is looking worse every time...
Emophia @ Apr 24th 2008 11:31AM
It's both looking worse and better every time I see it.The gameplay looks good...But the graphics... ugh...Whatever, if the in house multiplayer is good enough I may get it, it is fromt eh Timesplitters/Golden Eyes guys.I'll judge on release/reviews.
xFenixKnightx @ Apr 24th 2008 11:32AM
Oye que paso? Your supposed to be first =) lol
Zoesch @ Apr 24th 2008 1:33PM
I'm sure you would've jumped all over this game if:
1)It was coming out for the Wii
2)The soundtrack was by Los Tigres Del Norte
baby sea tuna @ Apr 24th 2008 11:29AM
Oh that pic is BRILLIANT! I can only imagine his head about to explode, Scanners-style, inside that helmet.
Phranctoast @ Apr 24th 2008 11:50AM
+ for even knowing scanners. We're talking old school.
trask @ Apr 24th 2008 11:29AM
Ok, before all the hate rolls in... I love Korn, I have since '99... but let me say this... the song they wrote for Haze sucks, it's not their best and it's not even good.
Go White Sox and Go other Team @ Apr 24th 2008 11:45AM
I am a fan of Korn also, but that was garbage. I would like to never hear that song again. If this is the kind of quality we can expect from Korn now that they have found God, then count me out.
Life is Peachy
Phranctoast @ Apr 24th 2008 11:52AM
Still like the first album the best. Bought it on release day after getting a demo tape (yep..tapes) mailed to me from a local mom+pop record store.
MarkHawk @ Apr 24th 2008 11:32AM
I listened to it on Mute... it sounded pretty good to me. I don't know what you guys are talking about.
(speaker died last night)
whistlepig @ Apr 24th 2008 12:03PM
lol nice , on the mute part
baby sea tuna @ Apr 24th 2008 11:33AM
I'm glad Korn isn't popular anymore so that now, when people say that they hate their music, it's not like they're just trying to be contrarian...it's because they finally realized how awful they are.
And this is coming from a hater from loooong ago, when I saw them open for Biohazard and House of Pain back in 1994 or 95.
Phranctoast @ Apr 24th 2008 12:07PM
Opinions are like assholes. Everyone has one, and everyone else's stinks.
Zoesch @ Apr 24th 2008 1:49PM
Korn had a good record and two decent ones after that, but that was about it, they certainly didn't warrant the attention and love that MTV seemed to give them.
Oh wait, they sold a ton of records, that's why MTV loved them, until they could sell no more.
A Pissed-off English Gamer @ Apr 24th 2008 2:46PM
Korn weren't bad, but jesus christ have they gone downhill since then. I'd love for them to bring out something that sounds good, and hat solo sounded worse than something written by Tom Morello.
Emophia @ Apr 24th 2008 11:33AM
As someone who likes all genre of music, including rock, hip hop, R&B, orchestreal and rap. That song sucks ass.I'm glad nobody ever tried to get me into Korn.
kbomb1upc @ Apr 24th 2008 11:35AM
So is that the only picture Haze has ever released? Joystiq loves that pic. I don't know which I've seen more...this picture or Fernando posting in a PS3 article.
robert @ Apr 24th 2008 12:18PM
it's not the only picture out there, it's probably just conveniently located on someones hard drive.
that or someone has a fetish for that crooked front tooth.
Shane Kim X360DF! (Me love me 360 long time:) @ Apr 24th 2008 11:36AM
Nice exclusive Sony...
/Sarcasm
Fernando Rocker @ Apr 24th 2008 11:38AM
I still don't undestand why the helmet is made of glass. At least the Master Chief or Samus Aran helmet looks like a high tech and solid piece.
Haze helmet has a very thin and fragil glass.
By the way... it needs more TimeShift on that helmet.
Sir Fidlious Wong (Zeon Defense Force) @ Apr 24th 2008 11:44AM
Astronauts use glass as well...
Actually, come to think of it, aside from hardcore swat materials, do any existing helmets visors protect from bullets? Do SWAT's even do that?
Just curious.
Sir Fidlious Wong (Zeon Defense Force) @ Apr 24th 2008 11:45AM
And for the record, Samus Aran looks like a hydrosyphalic Magneto and Master Chief looks like a Motocross contestant...
Fernando Rocker @ Apr 24th 2008 11:50AM
I think I prefer hydrosyphalic Magneto or motocross contestant over a Christmas Sphere look.
Heck, and if banks or cars uses bullet proff glasses, Im sure Master Chief and Samus uses a similar material: they are fighting against space creatures. But Haze helmet definitely can't stop a bullet because is so thin.
Shane Kim X360DF! (Me love me 360 long time:) @ Apr 24th 2008 11:54AM
What a silly argument. -1 both of you
Noshino @ Apr 24th 2008 11:54AM
altho I do think that the helmets on Haze do look awesome (seriously, the design looks great)
Have you ever thought that the fact that the Halo and Metroid worlds are supposed to be farther in the future (hell, even in other planets) would have a lot to do with them looking a bit more "high tech"?
Sir Fidlious Wong (Zeon Defense Force) @ Apr 24th 2008 11:58AM
Nah, I just think he's looking for ANYTHING to bash this game over. Which is why I'm happily offering counterpoint.
None of the hardcore tardcore have shown up so it's just silly commenting. Like how, apparently, every male in Fire Emblem must wear a cape...
religiousjedi @ Apr 24th 2008 12:11PM
Fernando: never misses a chance to trash a game that doesn't say "Nintendo."
*shakes head*
On topic: Korn?!? No wonder that guy is screaming in agony...
Noshino @ Apr 24th 2008 12:24PM
sheppy...don't even touch Fire Emblem...
and no, there are many male characters that don't wear a cape...unless you mean LEAD characters, then yes, most, if not all do wear capes, but still, unlike Superman, these dudes with or without a cape still kick ass!
Sir Fidlious Wong (Zeon Defense Force) @ Apr 24th 2008 12:39PM
I will insult Fire Emblem all I want. Because everyone knows REAL RPG teenage protagonists each a bullet before doing really cool spells and shit. And since I can't get Roy to wrap his pretty boy lips around a ballista, Fire Emblem = phail...
aristokrat @ Apr 24th 2008 12:42PM
Bullet-proof glass, while it exists, is both very heavy (it has lead in it) and pretty thick, meaning that it would not be a viable option for headwear. Samus and Master Chief probably have some type of high-tech polycarbonate visor (or some other futuristic plastic that hasn't been invented yet). And I'm pretty sure that the majority of those two's stopping power came from shields, not the armor it self (at least for MC, I haven't played a Metroid FPS), so they very well might have glass visors as well given glasses resiliency to scratches. Additionally, it's not unreasonable to assume that Master Chief wouldn't suffer the same fate once his shields are down, since head shots then make short work of him.
Emophia @ Apr 24th 2008 1:10PM
Hey man, don't dis Fire Emblem, Fire Emblem is the shit, one of the best Tactical Turn based RPGs out there.
el serpiente @ Apr 24th 2008 2:22PM
Hai. I is Fernandos. Mai imaginaree helmets iz betters than yurz. By thee way, mario kartz will sells more than da haze, I BET YOU WII POINTS! I NEEDS TO GET MAJOR LEAGUE EATING SO BADS!
Shmil @ Apr 24th 2008 4:52PM
...are there even bullets in the metroid universe?
ThornedVenom (Harley Quinn Defense Force) @ Apr 24th 2008 7:25PM
Glass doesn't scratch like plastic does, hence why the iPhone's screen is made of glass. This one guy in my class dropped his iPhone on purpose in front of the class, to prove how surprisingly resistant it was.
But whether it be made in glass or any other type of material, DO NOT GET SHOT IN THE FACE.
The RobotMonkey @ Apr 24th 2008 1:52PM
Every male in Fire Emblem must wear a cape, otherwise the core gameplay with will severely obliterated.
As for the too thin remark, it's a game get over it, play it and for an opinon on it's gaminess.
RagnarokSam @ Apr 24th 2008 12:12PM
I'll admit, i used to be a Korn fan back years ago, before Brian left the band because he "found God". But ever since he left in 2004, the band's music went from decent nu-metal (i cant believe i just said those words together) to crappy goth/pop/indie mellow stuff.
Surprisingly, the song in the video wasen't near as bad as i thought it would be. Dont get me wrong, its still bad, but i've heard much worse from them.
Oh, and Haze looks like an okay title (emphasis on the word "okay").
Levi @ Apr 24th 2008 5:27PM
My favorite oxymoron of the day:
Decent nu-metal
RagnarokSam @ Apr 24th 2008 7:41PM
lol, could have been worse...at least it wasent Limp Bizkit.
t_m @ Apr 24th 2008 12:46PM
Gah! What genre is this supposed to be? And why does he "sing" in a comedy voice?
The gameplay looked interesting, but I closed the browser tab (gut reaction) about 25% in. Had to open it again to post a comment.
Makes the music from Warrior Within seem like a good idea.
Brennan @ Apr 24th 2008 12:48PM
a rocker wearing a dress? Oooookkkkkk..........
as for the music, me dont want!
pwnetheus @ Apr 24th 2008 1:10PM
I was going to say only real men wear kilts but then I saw the video. Looks like some generic Tripp skirt to me. Very silly looking.
NATO_Duke @ Apr 24th 2008 1:27PM
FYI - he's wearing a Utilikilt I believe.

I thought whining lyrics with the subtlety of a sledgehammer went out with the 90s.
Oh yeah, they did.
