Nintendo continues cash infusion, record sales and profits in FY08

Nintendo announced today that it saw a 73% increase in sales this past year and profits of over $4.77 billion, which is a 115% increase over last year. It appears Nintendo forecasted conservatively and is going to need a bigger money bin. The company also states it plans to ship 25 million Wii consoles to retailers across the globe in FY09, approximately the same amount it shipped in FY08, which ended March 31. If Nintendo continues its Wii sales rampage, that means by April of 2009 there could be 50 million Wii consoles in homes.

The Nintendo DS isn't doing badly either, with 70.6 million units sold, and expected shipments of another 28 million units this fiscal year. Nintendo reveals that the global tie ratio for software on Wii is 6.07, while the DS enjoys a 5.24. The company expects an 8.8% operating profit increase in FY09 to $5.14 billion -- that's probably being conservative, again.

Yeah, despite it's age and how much it's been used, it still makes me laugh every single time.

The Wii was the console with the bigger softwares sales from last fiscal year.

The days when the 360 sold the most software is over. Sorry, but its true.

There are 26 million sellers on Wii... don't know why people keep saying that the doesnt sell software.

I guess Epic was wrong about saying that people only play the Wii just two months. If that was true, the software sales would be low.

And an atach ratio of 6.07 over 25 millions of Wii's??? Thats a lot software sales.. a lot more than the ratio of the 360 of 7.5 over 18 millions of 360.

Why do you feel the need to repeat yourself over and over? We get it, the Wii and DS are the greatest things ever, bigger than sliced bread or a trip with Al Bundy and NoMam to the nudey bar. Instead of slightly changing up your posts, why not save time and just copy and paste?

also, your stats are worthless...the wii console is in more households worldwide, so naturally, it will have more software sold overall.

I didnt said that the Wii attach ratio was higher, but its not that behind from the 360.

But, the Wii install base is bigger, so, even with a smaller attach ratio, the sales are higher.

Fact of the matter is, we need at least 3 consoles manufacturers in the market and need them all to be successful. Competition breeds innovation and one-console trolls like yourself will bring us back to the days of the Atari 2600.

I'd like you to tell that to every other troll on this site; some people have yet to realize that Fernando is neither the only troll or the worst of them - half the time, he's actually civil and is able to contribute, which is a bit more than what most other trolls do.

nicely put. With 3 major console manufactures, 2 directly competing and 1 taking advantage of the vast soccermom market, we as gamers win. We get better games, and better prices. Anarchy thru capitalism.
The more competition there is, the more reason for console manufacturers to try to outdo each other. Sony dominated the last 2 gens, and now for the moment, directly competing or not, Nintendo is on top. Which is making Sony drop prices faster, and ramp up with the highest quality software that they can make.

Fernando, you have to be careful not to start sounding like Ken with those comments.

But this doesn't bother me and shouldn't bother anyone because the 360 and ps3 are getting the majority of great games. What good does sales do for wii owners when 99% of the games they get are mario and sonic at the olympics and carnival games? Yeah you get brawl, but that's really close to melee. It's not exactly adding a bunch of new gameplay stuff like GTA or MGS is.

While I don't agree with Samfish and that GTA comment, I don't agree with your Brawl comment either, unless you consider...

*An upgrade from 28 mostly MIDI tracks to 281 mostly orchestrated tracks, one of, if not the greatest soundtrack in gaming history
*a revamped physics system that puts more of an emphasis on combat
*retooled balance between the characters
*new modes and such
*an absolutely incredible amount of unlockables

...a minor improvement over Melee. In which case, I'd call you a retard.

I have spent more time on Everybody Votes than every Wii title combined.

I seriously doubt Mark Rein gives a rat's ass about this. Especially since UE3 already been deemed profitable given all the companies that purchased usage of it... and it's obvious from all the talk of UE4 that it isn't meant for any hardware Nintendo will offer in the next generation of consoles.

Because let's be honest, Nintendo *won't* make a console with high end graphics and will probably not go with a gamepad for its 8th generation console. If the console they come out with bears hardware stats more advanced overall than that generation's competition(hell, I wonder if it'll any higher than PS3/X360 given their pace); I'll gladly buy Fernando that console.

No I think he's off somewhere shaking his head asking why the Wii is still popular. Funny thing is, I ask myself that same question every day when I stare at mine sitting idle (with a decent layer of dust on it from not being used in nearly a year). I'm sure other people are also wondering the same thing.
