But I never claimed that the Wii can run over 480p... I'm saying because the PS3 has "the Cell" and his 4d Graphics and full 1080p HD propaganda.

I downloaded this patch last night and man it was quick. Not even 5 minutes, I was gonna leave it on all night so I can just wake up and turn it off but it zipped right thru! Happy Panda =)

About the resolution and fps...well needless to say I kinda saw this coming, even from the trailer that shows in game footage it doesnt look as good as COD4. Im still playing this mother though, cant wait! Might be my first PS3 allnighter =P

Call of Duty 4 has ver good graphics, high polygon count, great lighting and effects, and superb sound.

But it runs at native 600p...

And even at 600p it looks amazing... but by the MGSO footage, it doesn't look near as good as Call of Duty 4.

Actually, Fernando... if you read more post mortems, you'd discover Call of Duty 4 has a lower polycount than Call of Duty 2 (Infinity Wards last COD game). This is something they've said themselves. Gotta love what the advent of normal mapping can accomplish.

Basically you have, thanks to normal mapping, 8K-10K tri characters looking like their 3M tri counterparts out of Zbrush/Mudbox and a vast majority of people cannot tell the difference.

Well... of they are using normal mapping, of course you can create high detailed (and sometimes even better looking) than other models with high polycount.

Too bad developers don't use more normal mapping.

Umm, they DO. Normal Mapping made it's commercial release debut in Chronicle of Riddick. Recent showcases of Normal Mapping includes the phenominal cloth in VF5, Gears of War and UT3, and all those things you claimed were bump maps in SSBB.

Basically, a normal maps differentials from a bump map as such. A bump map is a greyscale image which only shows details in Z axis. A bump map cannot fake shadows and likewise, a bump maps edges on a polygon and a HUGE giveaway. A normal map, meanwhile, uses a high polygon version (What I'm currently working on for that A-12 Seraph) as a basis for "baking" surface details in an RGB image. So then you create your low poly model (for characters, it goes the other way around, I just find it easier to work high, then low, on vehicles) and tell the system to generate a normal map. Basically it then goes in and gives a much better illusion of depth to the details although, at the same time, the poly edges remain the giveaway on geometry that it's map generated.

Basically this is a good example to look at.

You get to see the high res and low res models (wireframe) so you get to see what I'm talking about.

MGS has always had that slightly hyperreal thing going. Soldier's movements are always perfect, everything is just stylized enough to look like Metal Gear, but not enough that it's a cartoon instead of a simulacrum (taken without the negative connotations) of reality.

Simply, MGS4 looks really good, but it's not supposed to look realistic whereas COD4 is trying to look as real as possible. It's not that it doesn't look as good, it just doesn't look as realistic.

Even when you have a good point you follow it up with some stupid troll comment about the 360 or the PS3 and invalidate any point you might of had.

i dont really understand why i have to have all those different ID's to play the game. i mean other games just use the PSNID on their site and that works for stat tracking and such. maybe its just part of the beta.

I think it's simply a matter of Konami not knowing how to do online. Japanese company, big suprise there (yes, sarcasm... online gaming in Japan still isn't a "thing.")

This is the bad side of completely open online. The good side is mods on ut3.

maybe because teh PSN id has its limit.. and also maybe because they plan to do a lot of things with it.. including keeping track of other users, and use their network way pass sony.

But i think it's past the beta.. meaning that you may still keep your id. But it could also be for the forum they have set for metal gear.. like they did for the previous MGO

i think im going with Wong. online gaming in Japan is not big. its considered rude there to have people knowing what your doing all the time and such and thus they are just starting this online thing where as the US has been doing it for a while now. theyll get the hang of it eventually though.

pawsie, considering I can tie my PSN name to the PS Store on PC and the Rock Band community page... I'm having a hard time trying to figure out where you think the PSN name has it's limit.

It's not hard to incorprate a universale login system. In fact, Sony has freely distributed those tools at last years GDC. Not this years, LAST YEARS.

Nice try though.

You need a Konami Id for the beta only. Its used for gathering data on the beta. The real game will use the PSN Network. Everyone keeps forgetting this is a BETA, not the full game.

And the Fernando schtick continues to get old.

Make sure your console of choice can support something other than 480p (If you're lucky) before you talk about any other console. Most games are internally upscaled from their native resolution on both the 360 and the PS3.

Then again you're the one advocating getting EDTV's (Expensive an Obsolete) for the Wii to look decent... let me tell you something, the TV is the least of your concerns there.

I now understand why the 3 different IDs.. This is my guess.

first id is because we need it.. the psn.

second id is for 'them' to keep track of us and to use their webpage and forum (It's going to happen.. like the last one). The game is about team work.. so they'll going to set something up for that.. besides just email

third id is for the stupid. There's going to be people who'll complain they were hacked. Well, even if you get hacked.. there's no reason for you to give anyone your Konami ID.. so you can fix that problem yourself -- There should be 'no' way for someone to learn your konami ID, because it's private.

So it's a security measure.. much liek how a webpage ask you to set up 3 passwords.

I'm guessing the reason for the three IDs is so you don't play out of your region since the European beta is open and the other regions are not... hopefully they will not make it to the final game
