The seven-page, five-thousand word review (and accompanying video review, after the jump) praises the game's art style, the immersive backdrop of Liberty City, the "Oscar quality" story and the "refined" gameplay. The enamored reviewer even commends some of the quirky extra features included by Rockstar, such as Niko's multipuropse cellphone, or the in-game use of alcohol: "You don't have to drive drunk," the reviewer exclaims, "but it's fun to give it a try." Great, now we can look forward to public backlash towards the game's DUI-endorsing write-ups, as well.
IGN: First web GTA IV review, another perfect 10

Is it too early to say that we're beginning to see a pattern develop here? We know that a mere handful of reviews for Rockstar's latest opus have been published, but should the current trend continue, Grand Theft Auto IV could be the subject of more perfect scores than 1976 Olympic gymnast Nadia Comaneci. Yes, IGN recently dropped the suspiciously non-embargoed first online review for the title, giving it a 10 out of 10 (on both platforms) and evoking the wrath of the Nintendo Defense Force, calling GTA IV "the best game since Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time."

Not much hype here (UK) either. I've seen no TV ads, no print ads, no giant mofo posters. GTA doesn't need that to survive here.

Post 200. Hot dog.
I'd like a GTA advert. Infact the only gaming ads I've seen in a week have been Mario Kart and Cooking Mama 2. Am I just looking in the wrong places fellow brits?

I don't know I am in America and sites like Joystiq, and Kotaku have been pushing had GTA IV That is everything I have seen. Yes mario Kart has been pushed, but with insane amount of criticism. Like most games of its type GTA is getting the praise right now but wait till a NEW favorite game comes out.
Bioshock was everybody's game it was flawless, till Mass Effect than it was nothing but hype. Remember Halo 3, YES the KING WAS BACK! COD came out and people said it was all HYPE. Mass Effect, same the list goes on. GTV is great now but lets wait a few months lets let the rabidness die down and a certain chain saw wielding sequel gets ready to debut that is when I really want to see if people are still yelling Tens.
But as Hype goes I can't say if you are an upper market gamer you haven't see the marketing. Lower markets probably not because it is not the game of their choice, but definitely the sites dedicated to upper markets. The sites have not only dragged this horse to water about this games greatness, they also choked the water down its gullet, beat it to death grinded it up and served it to the other horses who won't pay attention.

I think all these websites that leaped out with a 10 of 10 are not worth their salt. It's a marketing ploy between Rockstar and those websites that gave a 10 in return for having first dibs on the game to generate traffic to their sites and what not. It looks like a win/win situation for those parties. I just don't think that Rockstar would let any game reviewers that govern themselves review the game before release day as it's in the developers interest to have these game "review" sites spit nothing but 10 of out of 10 after 10 out of 10 so the easily hyped fall like dominoes to buy the game at midnight and beyond when it launches. I will definitely get the game over the weekend but this marketing hype is just not working at all on me.
